The supply of these elements in the soil has become limited in some areas as a result of the introduction of high yielding varieties, better and more intensive cropping practices, and increased use of high analysis fertilisers. In some cases, the ob- served deficiencies of these micronutrients have been man- made due to addition of interfering elements for other pur- poses. For instance there is the copper induced iron chlorosis, copper being introduced as agricultural sprays and the phosphorus induced iron and zinc deficiencies, phos- phorus being introduced to meet the phosphorus requirement of farm crops. How to minimise such interactions and the problems of keeping these micronutrient elements available to the plants when applied to the soil have been the sub- ject of intensive researches.

  • Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Food Enzymesto Enable
Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Food Enzymes to Enable the Use of Lysophospholipase from Trichoderma reesei RF7206 in the Production of Sugars and Dextrins from Starch Notice of Modification – Lists of Permitted Food Additives Reference Number: NOM/ADM-0172 August 10, 2021 Summary Food additives are regulated in Canada under Marketing Authorizations (MAs) issued by the Minister of Health and the Food and Drug Regulations (Regulations). Approved food additives and their permitted conditions of use are set out in the Lists of Permitted Food Additives that are incorporated by reference in the MAs and published on the Canada.ca website. A petitioner can request that Health Canada approve a new additive or a new condition of use for an already approved food additive by filing a food additive submission with the Department's Food Directorate. Health Canada uses this premarket approval process to determine whether the scientific data support the safety of food additives when used under specified conditions in foods sold in Canada. Health Canada’s Food Directorate received a food additive submission seeking approval for the use of lysophospholipase from Trichoderma reesei RF7206 in starch used in the production of dextrins, dextrose, fructose syrups and solids, glucose (glucose syrup), glucose solids (dried glucose syrup), or maltose. The food enzyme is intended to be used at a level consistent with Good Manufacturing Practice1. Its purpose of use is to improve the efficiency of the starch processing. Lysophospholipase is a type of phospholipase. Phospholipase from other microbial sources is already permitted for use in Canada as a food enzyme in certain foods, but not in the production of sugars and dextrins from starch.

Retention Indices for Frequently Reported Compounds of Plant Essential Oils V. I. Babushok,a) P. J. Linstrom, and I. G. Zenkevichb) National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20899, USA (Received 1 August 2011; accepted 27 September 2011; published online 29 November 2011) Gas chromatographic retention indices were evaluated for 505 frequently reported plant essential oil components using a large retention index database. Retention data are presented for three types of commonly used stationary phases: dimethyl silicone (nonpolar), dimethyl sili- cone with 5% phenyl groups (slightly polar), and polyethylene glycol (polar) stationary phases. The evaluations are based on the treatment of multiple measurements with the number of data records ranging from about 5 to 800 per compound. Data analysis was limited to temperature programmed conditions. The data reported include the average and median values of retention index with standard deviations and confidence intervals. • Effect of Enzymes on Strawberry Volatiles During Storage, at Different Ripeness
Effect of Enzymes on Strawberry Volatiles During Storage, at Different Ripeness Level, in Different Cultivars and During Eating Thesis Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Science in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Gulsah Ozcan Graduate Program in Food Science and Technology The Ohio State University 2010 Thesis Committee: Sheryl Ann Barringer, Adviser W. James Harper John Litchfield 1 Copyright by Gülşah Özcan 2010 ii ABSTRACT Strawberry samples with enzyme activity and without enzyme activity (stannous chloride added) were measured for real time formation of lipoxygenase (LOX) derived aroma compounds after 5 min pureeing using selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS). The concentration of (Z)-3-hexenal and (E)-2-hexenal increased immediately after blending and gradually decreased over time while hexanal concentration increased for at least 5 min in ground strawberries. The formation of hexanal was slower than the formation of (Z)-3-hexenal and (E)-2-hexenal in the headspace of pureed strawberries. The concentration of LOX aldehydes and esters significantly increased during refrigerated storage. Damaging strawberries increased the concentration of LOX aldehydes but did not significantly affect the concentration of esters. The concentrations of many of the esters were strongly correlated to their corresponded acids and/or aldehydes. The concentration of LOX generated aldehydes decreased during ripening, while fruity esters increased. Different varieties had different aroma profiles and esters were the greatest percentage of the volatiles. The aroma release of some of the LOX derived aldehydes in the mouthspace in whole strawberries compared to chopped strawberries showed that these volatiles are formed in the mouth during chewing.

For more information, call the CPSC’s toll-free hotline at 1-800-638-2772 or visit its website at http://www.cpsc.gov. Poison Prevention Packaging: A Guide For Healthcare Professionals (revised 2005) Preface The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) administers the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 (PPPA), 15 U.S.C. §§ 1471-1476. The PPPA requires special (child-resistant and adult-friendly) packaging of a wide range of hazardous household products including most oral prescription drugs. Healthcare professionals are more directly involved with the regulations dealing with drug products than household chemical products. Over the years that the regulations have been in effect, there have been remarkable declines in reported deaths from ingestions by children of toxic household substances including medications. Despite this reduction in deaths, many children are poisoned or have "near-misses" with medicines and household chemicals each year. Annually, there are about 30 deaths of children under 5 years of age who are unintentionally poisoned. Data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (a CPSC database of emergency room visits) indicate that in 2003, an estimated 78,000 children under 5 years of age were treated for poisonings in hospital emergency rooms in the United States.

Act both whole and as aglycones. Interact with hormone (corticosteroid / sex) systems. Increase hepatic cholesterol synthesis and excretion. Interact with immune system. Often toxic by injection Extraction: Water is often excellent. Forms foam. Areas of action: Gut, lymphoid tissue, liver, pituitary, kidney/adrenals. Pharmacokinetics: Micelle formation, various degrees of de-glycosylation in small intestine, though some absorbed whole. Rapid plasma entry (90 min), clearances often longer (8-12h half-lives), perhaps due to enterohepatic recycling. Excreted in bile, some kidney. Representative species: Glycyrrhiza, Panax, Actaea, Saponaria Phytosterols: Mills&Bone Saw Palmetto monograph, pp. 805-810 Demonty, Isabelle, et al.
