Pressetext PDF (0.1 WU-TANG CLAN Wu-Tang Is Forever! November 2014 das lang erwartete Album „A Better Tomorrow“. To F*** With“! http://www.wutang-corp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/wutangclan https://twitter.com/WuTangClan https://www.youtube.com/user/WuTangClanVEVO *** Ticketservice: 040 413 22 60 // 01806 62 62 80 (Festnetz: 0,20€/Anruf, Mobilfunk: max. 0,60€/Anruf)) Online: kj.de // [email protected] Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion GmbH | kj.de 0 0 0 0 0 Telefon: ( 4 ) 41 47 88- | Fax: ( 4 ) 41 47 88-11 | [email protected] .

Everybody is Talking About the Good Ole Days: RZA on the Soul of Music by Ericka Blount Danois If hip-hop tours, white appropriation, anniversary celebrations, books and hip-hop documentaries aren’t an indication that hip-hop has reached the status of Beatles-style nostalgia and reverence, then releasing a Wu-Tang Clan 20th anniversary reunion album, A BetterTomorrow, is solid proof that the genre has officially arrived. RZA, always the heart of the operation, worked tirelessly to round up the troops and dissolve beefs for the reunion album that dropped Dec. 2, 2014. “I wanted to make a record that pays homage to soul music and hip-hop,” he said about the making of this album. “I went to the past to make something for the future.” RZA came out of his own pockets to fund the album to the tune of half a million dollars. Some of the best in the industry are featured on the album—Rick Rubin, Adrian Younge, David Porter, Kenny Gamble and Rob Cavallo, all had their hands in the pot. Wu-Tang has always done things big and with vision. RZA led the 9-member group to an unprecedented label deal where each member was able to launch solo records. The deal allowed them to become the most revolutionary rap group of the mid-’90s releasing five group and 19 compilation albums totaling over 6 platinum records and over 40 million sold.

  • “My Logo Is Branded on Your Skin”: the Wu-Tang Clan, Authenticity, Black Masculinity, and the Rap Music Industry
“MY LOGO IS BRANDED ON YOUR SKIN”: THE WU-TANG CLAN, AUTHENTICITY, BLACK MASCULINITY, AND THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY By Ryan Alexander Huey A THESIS Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of History – Master of Arts 2014 ABSTRACT “MY LOGO IS BRANDED ON YOUR SKIN”: THE WU-TANG CLAN, AUTHENTICITY, BLACK MASCULINITY, AND THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY By Ryan Alexander Huey The rap group, the Wu-Tang Clan came out of a turbulent period of time in both the rap music industry and American society in the early 1990s. Lawsuits over sampling in rap music forced producers to rethink the ways they made music while crack cocaine and the War on Drugs wreaked havoc in urban communities across the nation, as it did in the Clan’s home borough of Staten Island, New York. Before the formation of the group, Gary “GZA” Grice, had managed to land a recording contract as a solo artist, but his marketing was mismanaged and his career stagnated. He returned in 1992 as one of the nine member collective, who billed themselves as kung fu movie buffs melding low-fi, eerie productions with realistic raps about ghetto life. Drawing from the vibrant underground rap scene of New York City in the 1970s and 1980s, Brooklyn’s rich African American chess tradition, the teachings of the Five Percenters, and the cult following for Hong Kong action cinema, the Clan became a huge hit across the country. Each member fashioned a unique masculine identity for himself, bolstering their hardcore underground image while pushing the boundaries of acceptable expressions of manhood in rap music.

RA THE RUGGED MAN) CZARFACE – Wu-Tang founding MC Inspectah Deck and veteran Boston duo 7L & Esoteric – isn’t concerned with the glitz and the B.S. that modern consumer culture is pushing. And neither are the group’s fans. In 2013, the trio appeared relatively unassumingly with their self-titled debut, which was chiefly produced by DJ 7L and included guests ranging from Ghostface Killah and Cappadonna to Vinnie Paz, Action Bronson and Roc Marciano. The soon-to-be acclaimed group found out quickly that there was a groundswell of hip-hop fanatics thirsting for the lunchpail, lyrics-above-all-else rap they fell in love with in the ‘90s. Several pressings of the album on CD, 2-LP and even cassette later, they are back and ready to up the ante. This time around the group is the same, but it’s fair to say that all three men have stepped up their game. “We knew how we felt about the last album, but weren’t sure how it would be received by listeners,” explains MC Esoteric.

  • Wu-Tang Clan Ready for Northside
2014-12-10 10:00 CET Wu-Tang Clan ready for NorthSide The legendary rap collective will visit NorthSide in Denmark alongside Matthew E. White and Spids Nøgenhat They have been called the most important hip-hop group ever, and few groups are composed of as many members with successful solo careers as the Wu-Tang Clan from Staten Island, New York. The W has inspired everyone from Barack Obama and Jon Stewart to Kanye West and Eminem, and it is nothing less than amazing to be able to add them among the headliners for NorthSide 2015. The nine man strong group has just released the album "A Better Tomorrow", which shows RZA, Raekwon, Method Man, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, Cappadonna, and Ghostface Killah in top form, and the album stands with ease alongside classics like the debut album "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)", "Wu-Tang Forever", and "The W". - We have always wanted to have hip-hop acts on the bill, and earlier this year we had great success presenting A$AP Rocky and Jurassic 5 at NorthSide. But there can be no doubt that with the Wu-Tang Clan, we have moved up into another league. They are legendary, not just in hip-hop circles, but across all genres and can rightly be described as one of the ‘90s’ most influential acts, says spokesman for NorthSide, John Fogde. The nine rappers are joined by the critically acclaimed songwriter Matthew E. White, who’ll release his second record in March of 2015, as well as the psychedelic Danish rock band Spids Nøgenhat, who has just won two Danish Music Awards respectively for Danish Rock Release of the Year and Best Danish Live Act.
