Adelaide, Sept. 21, 24, The estate of a deceased person included a small proportion of the issued 25; shares of a company which owned and operated four grazing properties. One Sydney, property had been and one was about to be converted from sheep to cattle, Nov. 5. and the other two were sheep stations. All were in semi-arid areas and sub- ject to special hazards. The company's shares were not quoted on a stock Kitto J. exchange. Held that in applying ordinary principles of valuation to the valuation of shares, it should be recognised that ordinarily a purchaser is likely to be influenced, as to price, mainly by his opinion concerning the dividends which the shares may reasonably be expected to produce. In the present case, having regard to the nature and characteristics of the company's business, a hypothetical purchaser buying at the date of death of the deceased would have looked for a high assets-backmg for the shares, as well as for a high average dividend arrived at after making substantial allowances for reserves. The selection of suitable test periods, and the adjustments to be made in using the company's accounts of the selected periods in order to estimate the profits which might have been regarded at the date of death as likely to be made by the company in the future, considered. -

General Notes on the Stuart Highway
CHALLENGING TERRAIN NO MATCH FOR ENGINEERING INGENUITY Page 1 of 8 The concept and design of the Stuart Highway began in 1870 by the South Australian Government. Between 1911 and 1978 the Commonwealth and various state government departments utilised in house resources and consultants to continue development. The Northern Territory Government took responsibility for construction from 1978. The highway began in 1870 as a supply track along the Overland Telegraph and over 130 years later, it is now the Stuart Highway as we know it today. The Stuart Highway North connects Alice Springs with Darwin via numerous small towns and the two major centres of Tennant Creek and Katherine. The explorer John Mc Douall Stuart, on his third attempt, crossed the continent of Australia from Port Augusta to the north coast arriving 20 miles east of the mouth of the Adelaide River on 24 July 1862. Stuart’s Reports spoke highly of the potential of the country that he had traversed and based on Stuart’s advice South Australia had the land to its north excised and on 6 July 1863 the Northern Territory became the responsibility of South Australia14. In 1871 the Overland Telegraph line was constructed linking Port Augusta and the southern states with the recently established settlement of Palmerston. The undersea cable connecting Australia to the world through Java came ashore at Palmerston on Port Darwin. The Overland Telegraph followed the route taken by Stuart for a substantial proportion of its 1765-mile length. The alignment of the telegraph was kept cleared of trees, maintenance and resupply of stores for the telegraphers at the Repeater Stations, meant that traffic along the route was ongoing and “The Overland” became established. -

Tidal wave of construction and 1300 jobs heading for South Australia 11/10/2020 | Corey Wingard MP | More Jobs | Better Services A tidal wave of major construction is heading for South Australia with works starting on more than $1 billion worth of infrastructure projects within the next six months. The building boom kicks off this month and will support more than 1,300 jobs as the Marshall Government continues to build what matters to South Australians. Major construction begins on two of the biggest regional infrastructure projects ever undertaken in this state - the Port Wakeeld Overpass and Highway Duplication and the Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication Project. Showcasing a commitment to improving regional roads, next month shoulder sealing works will also begin on the Tod and Birdseye Highways. In metropolitan Adelaide, major construction works will start by the end of the year on the much anticipated upgrade of the intersection of Goodwood, Springbank and Daws Roads, as well as the Main North, Kings and McIntyre Roads Intersection Upgrade. Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Corey Wingard said these important projects will support our economy and deliver jobs at a time when our state needs it most will support our economy and deliver jobs at a time when our state needs it most. “The economic challenges our state is facing at the moment are unprecedented,” Minister Wingard said. “Getting major works started on infrastructure projects across South Australia will help keep the economy ring as we navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic. “Creating jobs is critical to our economic recovery and we’re delivering around 1,315 over the next six months in road infrastructure projects alone. -

Institutionalisation of Aborigines, under the guise of assimilation and protection policies, was only abandoned in.the lg7Os. It is therefore important to understand the implications of these policies for Aborigines and Australian society in general. I investigate the affect of institutionalisation on Aborigines, questioning the assumption tl.at they were passive victims forced onto missions and government stations and kept there as virtual prisoners. -

River Health in the Mid North the Map Provides an Overall Assessment of the Health of Individual Sites in the Region
Mayfly nymph (Koorrnonga inconspicua) Aquatic macroinvertebrates in the Mid North The region is biologically diverse, with over 380 types of aquatic macroinvertebrates having been collected from 1994–1999. The most common members include amphipod crustaceans (e.g. Pseudomoera species and Austrochiltonia australis), blackfly larvae (Simulium ornatipes), oligochaetes (worms), chironomid midge larvae (Chironomus species), molluscs (hydrobiid snails) and nematodes (roundworms). A number of rare and uncommon macroinvertebrates are also found in the region. They include bristle worms (polychaete worms from the family Syllidae) found in the main channel of the Broughton River, as well as from the lower Rocky River and Mary Springs. These worms are normally found in marine and estuarine environments and their widespread presence in the Broughton catchment was unexpected. Other interesting records include horsehair worms (Gordiidae) from Skillogallee Creek, and planorbid snails (Gyraulus species) from the Light River at Mingays Waterhole. There are also three rare blackfly larvae that occur in the region: Austrosimulium furiosum from the Broughton River, Simulium melatum from Mary Springs and Paracnephia species from Belalie Creek. Among the rarer midges in the area are Podonomopsis from Eyre Creek, Apsectrotanypus from the Light River at Kapunda and Harrissius from the Wakefield River. Mayflies such as Offadens sp. 5 and Centroptilum elongatum, from the Broughton River and Mary Springs respectively, were unusual records, as were the presence of several caddisflies (e.g. Apsilochorema gisbum, Taschorema evansi, Orphninotrichia maculata and Lingora aurata) from Skillogallee and Eyre creeks, Mary Springs and the lower Broughton River. Mayfly nymphs (e.g. Koorrnonga inconspicua) have flattened bodies that allow them to cling to rocks in flowing streams. -

If you saw the Birdsville Race Track between events, you wouldn’t bother taking the lens cap off the camera. It’s a pleasant enough little town, as outback towns go, but step just a few paces in any direction and you are in extreme isolation. This is the Australian outback, on the edge of the Simpson Desert. This is not a tourist destination for amateurs. The famed Birdsville Track is more of a six-lane gibber highway in parts than a track, but the moment you veer away from it, you’re on your own. There’s a big signpost outside the Birdsville police station warning anyone thinking of heading west into the Simpson to check in first, and if you are a foreign tourist, you must phone your embassy. If a rescue is mounted, it can cost anything up to $8,000 or so to drag a crippled vehicle and its occupants out of the desert. The sand tracks which radiate out to the Simpson Desert beyond Birdsville attract the unwary: the blowhard from the city with his fancy four wheel drive who thinks his fifty grand’s worth of technology will get him anywhere. ‘ He’s rescued quite a few vehicles with this machine. If it wasn’t at Birdsville, there’d be a few rusting hulks on the desert landscape.’ Tell that to Peter Barnes, a laconic “seen it all” mechanic, who with his wife Bronwynne runs Birdsville’s first and only garage and repair centre.
