PROJECT CASE STUDY AIS ARENA AUSTRALIA, CANBERRA AIS ARENA CASE STUDY BACKGROUND INSTALLED 1980 . AIS arena is situated in Bruce, Canberra and is part of the Australian Institute of Sport . The construction is a hollow core concrete panel roof . The roof membrane that was installed was Sarnafil G214-44e PVC, fully adhered with Sarnacol 2170 adhesive . The roof was installed in 1980… . …so that’s 33 years of trouble-free service . Canberra’s climate is one of the harshest in Australia with regular temperature differentials of between -5 and +25 degrees C . In January 2013, Sarnafil G410-20L Felt was installed over the existing membrane, fully adhered with Sarnacol 2170 . This is the competitor’s membrane that was used to repair a pipe on the roof; the patch was only five years old 10 THE RE-ROOF PROJECT - JANUARY 2013 AIS ARENA RE-ROOF . The client was that happy with the performance of the initial Sarnafil PVC system they didn’t look at any other brand when it came to the re-roof project . We discussed the requirements of the project with the client and it soon became apparent that a white energy smart membrane was required to save on cooling costs in the summer months . Also, a 20 year warranty was required so a 2.0mm membrane was installed . Canberra College Students Qualifying for This Honour
Principal’s Report - AUGUST 2015 I I welcome you all back to the business end of the year, particularly for our Year 12 students. I trust that all students returned rested and revitalised for the semester ahead. At our first week assembly I talked about the importance of feedback as it has two purposes; summative performance and also suggestions for improving performance. Last semester every student received a formal written summative report. This complements the feedback that students received throughout the term through the variety of learning and assessment activities as well as performance in the exams. Seeking and giving feedback also improves the performance of both teacher and student. Parent, teacher and student feedback along with performance data for the college collected over the past 4 years has now been analysed by an external panel as part of the review and validation process. The college validation report will be published before the end of term 3 and will contain a series of commendations and recommendations which will inform our planning for the next 4 years. I thank the students, staff and parents who contributed to the panels deliberations. In the next few weeks student, teachers and parents will be asked to complete the annual online school satisfaction survey. This is an important guide for us in our planning for whole college improvement. Please make the time complete this survey as we value your input and suggestions. Our staff and students continue to excel in a variety of areas. I acknowledge and congratulate; Jim Phillips who has won a promotion to Executive Teacher Science and PE at Lake Tuggeranong College.

2 MAY 2018 Marist College Enews Important dates Dear Marist Family, Now until Friday 25 May Welcome Back Enrolment Period Welcome back to second term. I trust the boys are refreshed and Thursday 3 May invigorated by the beautiful autumn weather, prepared for what ASC Athletics will be a busy term ahead. The recent term holiday saw examples of participation and commitment across a wide range of activities. A Friday 4 May number of our students and staff participated on a language tour to College ANZAC Assembly Japan as part of an exchange program now extending over 20 years. Bookings close for 50th Jubilee Foundation Blue & Others ventured to northern Australia in an experience that had as Blue Gala Dinner its focus, engagement with our Indigenous peoples. In the sporting Sunday 6 May domain, our senior rugby teams ventured ‘across the ditch’ to New Zealand and performed with great distinction in preparation for their upcoming competition. At home, College Open Day, 10.00am – 1.00pm we welcomed 34 teams to the 29th Australian Marist Schools Basketball Carnival. Fabulously, Marist Monday 7 May – College Canberra won the boys’ competition. While we have secured this title five times, we have not Thursday 10 May won the event since 2005; congratulations to the team. Many Marist students gave up their holidays Year 6 Camp supporting this event to act as team liaison officers, bench officials and social media coordinators, all representing the College with great distinction. Planning for Canberra's Night-Time Economies
1 Disclaimer This research paper is not policy. It analyses recent data and trends with a view to inform and stimulate wider debate. Introduction Canberra’s social and economic life doesn’t end when the day finishes. This paper examines what can be understood as the ‘night-time economy’ (NTE). It builds on background research by the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) to inform planning for social infrastructure and the review of Territory Plan policies for commercial centres and zones. It considers how the ‘night-time economy’ can be defined, where it takes place in Canberra, the performance of live music and the ACT’s distinctive licensed club sector. 2. What is the ‘night-time economy’ – definition and background All cities, including Canberra, have NTEs, where people meet, play, consume and produce. The term encapsulates certain social and business activities and the period of ‘the night’. Various authors have written of the ‘rhythms’ of cities in terms of patterns of the use of buildings, streets, plazas and other public spaces at different points through the day and night-time (cf. Bianchini 1995). Often, ‘the night’ has been seen as sinister or associated with danger or immorality. However, others have emphasised that the night within cities is also widely experienced in positive terms as a time of socialisation and encounter (Lovatt and O’Connor 1995). Australian Fencing Federation Ltd ACT Fencing Association Bid to host CFC 2018 15 December 2016 COMPETITION DETAILS Date: The Commonwealth Senior and Veteran Championships will be held as a combined event, to be run concurrently over a 6 day period starting in early to mid-November 2018. The final dates for the event will be confirmed in late 2017. Location: The Championships will be held in Australia’s national capital city of Canberra, which is located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Canberra is situated 280km southwest of Sydney and 660km northeast of Melbourne. It is serviced by an international and domestic airport. Canberra and the surrounding region offer many attractive experiences for international visitors, including visits to sites of national significance (Parliament House, the Australian National Gallery, Questacon, the Royal Australian Mint), as well as winery tours, balloon rides and opportunities to experience Australia’s native flora and fauna. Venue: The Championships will be hosted at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) facility, a 66 hectare site located in the northern suburb of Bruce, minutes from the Canberra city centre. Heritage Values A Heritage Conservation Management Plan (CMP) was commissioned by the former Department of Land and Property Services (now Economic Development Directorate) from Duncan Marshall, Heritage Architect. This CMP has been accepted by the ACT Heritage Council. This CMP provides a framework and guidelines for consideration in preserving the building and any future building modifications. Location The Fitters’ Workshop is a significant building within the context of the Kingston Foreshore. This is clearly articulated within the Fitters’ Workshop CMP. The Land Development Agency (LDA) currently has jurisdiction over the greater area known as Section 49. This includes the proposed Kingston Arts Precinct encompassing the Canberra Glassworks, Fitters’ Workshop and the Former Transport Depot, as well as all of the undeveloped land bordered by Wentworth Avenue, Eastlake Parade, Giles Street and Lake Burley Griffin.
