This Report aptly captures the University’s attainments and the national & international recognitions it had received during the last twelve months. The University has been able to sustain its entrenched position in the academic map of India and of the world because of the united efforts of all sections of the University community and its system of cooperative governance. While the University strives for academic excellence, it remains alive to its social obligations to make India a better place to live in, recalling what Aurobindo Ghosh, one of the founding fathers of the National Council of Education Bengal, which was the precursor of our University, had envisioned our institution to be : “The nucleus of a nation of the new India which is to begin its career after this might and sorrow and trouble, on that day of glory and greatness when India will work for the world.” On my own behalf & on behalf of the University, I sincerely thank the University Press for publishing the Annual Report within the stipulated time. I do believe that each degree recipient will certainly be able to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country with the knowledge & skills they have acquired from this university and propagate the educational philosophy of this university which we are continuing since inception. On this solemn occasion we prepare Annual Report (2018-2019) which will be the source of information and will act as an archival document. This will also reflect achievement & progress of the university in the last one year. Finally, best wishes to each outgoing students & warm congratulation to all university community on this auspicious occasion. As we know that Jadavpur Univeristy religiously observes its Annual Convocation on 24th December every year. December 24th has its own significant for 2 major reasons, i) Jadavpur University was founded on December 24, 1955, and ii) 24th December is also the birth date of the founder Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University i.e. Prof. Triguna Sen. As per my understanding and believes, the Annual Report of an institution is always considered as the mirror image of the institutional growth and progress. This report always provides us the information about our achievements, milestones and major accomplishment in various areas during last one year. One of the most important achievements of this year for Jadavpur University is it’s consistant performance in different National/International ranking framework. The progress and achievements of an academic institution like ours is the result of hard work and commitment for the excellence by various stakeholders of the university ecosystem. Apart from academic achievements, this report will also provide us the information about various extra-curricular activities of the university. I would like to thank to everyone whose hard work, dedication and perseverance make it possible to bring such an excellent and accurate Annual Report for the year 2018-19 at Jadavpur University.     DEPARTMENT OF FOLKLORE University of Kalyani COURSE CURRICULA OF M.A. IN FOLKLORE (Two- years Master’s Degree Programme under the Scheme of CBCS) Session: 2017-2018 and onwards As recommended by the Post Graduate Board of Studies (PGBoS) in Folklore in the meeting held on May 05, 2017 OPERATIONAL ASPECTS A. Timetable: 1) Class-hour will be of 1 hour and the time schedule of classes should be from 10.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. with 30 minutes lunch-break during 1.30 to 2.00 p.m., from Monday to Friday. Thus there shall be maximum 6 classes a day. 2) Normal 16 class-hours in a week may be kept for direct class instructions. The remaining 14 hours in a week shall be kept for Tutorial, Dissertation, Seminar, Assignments, Special Classes, holding class-tests etc. as may be required for the course. B. Course-papers and Allocation of Class-Hours per Course: 1) For evaluation purposes, each course shall be of 100 marks and for each course of 100 marks total number of direct instruction hours (theory/practical/field-training) shall be 48 hours. 2) The full course in 4 semesters shall be of total 1600 marks with total 16 courses (Fifteen Core Courses & One Open Course). In each semester, the course work shall be for 4 courses of total 400 marks. C. Credit Specification of the Course Curricula: M.A. Course in Folklore shall comprise 4 semesters. Each semester shall have 4 courses. In all, there shall be 16 courses of 4 credits each.
