China Abstract The MAGLEV Transrapid is a kind of new type high speed train in the world which is levitated and gui- ded over the track using electro magnetic forces. Because the electro magnets are unstable, they ha- ve to be controlled. Since 2002 the worldwide first commercial use of such a high speed train based on German technology is running successfully in Shanghai Pudong Airport, P.R.China. In this paper modeling of the high speed MAGLEV train Transrapid is discussed, which considered the whole mechanical system of one vehicle with optimized suspension parameters and all controlled electro magnet pairs in vertical and lateral directions. The dynamical simulation code is generated with MATLAB/SIMILINK. For the design of the control system, the optimal Linear Quadratic Control for minimum control energy is used for each single electro magnet. The simulation results are presen- ted with the given vertical and lateral random track irregularities. The research work was carried out together with Prof. Shen Gang, Ph.D. during the time Prof. Dr. Meisinger was visiting professor in Shanghai 2006 and Prof. Shu Guangwei, M.Sc. was visiting profes- sor in Nuremberg 2007. O’Brien, Chair This is a dissertation about lawyers, judges, international NGOs and legal action in an authoritarian state. The state is contemporary China. The type of legal action is civil environmental lawsuits, as when herdsmen from Inner Mongolia sue a local paper factory over poisoned groundwater and dead livestock or a Shandong villager demands compensation from a nearby factory for the noise that allegedly killed 26 foxes on his farm. Empirically, this is a close-to-the-ground account of everyday justice and the factors that shape it. Drawing on fifteen months of field research in China, along with in-depth exploration of four cases, legal documents, government reports, newspaper articles and blog archives, this dissertation unpacks how law as litigation works: how judges make decisions, why lawyers take cases and how international influence matters. -

THE WORKINGS OF MAGLEV: A NEW WAY TO TRAVEL Scott Dona Amarjit Singh Research Report UHM/CE/2017-01 April 2017 The Workings of Maglev: A New Way to Travel Page Left Blank ii Scott Dona and Amarjit Singh EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Maglev is a relatively new form of transportation and the term is derived from magnetic levitation. This report describes what maglev is, how it works, and will prove that maglev can be successfully constructed and provide many fully operational advantages. The different types of maglev technology were analyzed. Several case studies were examined to understand the different maglev projects whether operational, still in construction, or proposed. This report presents a plan to construct a maglev network using Maglev 2000 vehicles in the United States. A maglev system provides energy, environmental, economic, and quality of life benefits. An energy and cost analysis was performed to determine whether maglev provides value worth pursuing. Maglev has both a lower energy requirement and lower energy costs than other modes of transportation. Maglev trains have about one-third of the energy requirement and about one- third of energy cost of Amtrak trains. Compared to other maglev projects, the U.S. Maglev Network would be cheaper by a weighted average construction cost of $36 million per mile. Maglev could also be applied to convert the Honolulu Rail project in Hawaii from an elevated steel wheel on steel rail system into a maglev system. Due to the many benefits that Maglev offers and the proof that maglev can be implemented successfully, maglev could be the future of transportation not just in the United States but in the world. -

The maglev train can run with low mechanical friction, low air resistance, and low noise mode at a speed exceeding 1000 km/h inside the vacuum tube regardless of weather conditions. Currently, there is no research on train-to-ground wireless communication system for vactrain. In this paper, we first summarize a list of the unique challenges and opportunities associated with the wireless communication for vactrain, then analyze the bandwidth and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of vactrain’s train-to-ground communication services quantitatively. To address these challenges and utilize the unique opportunities, a leaky waveguide solution with simple architecture but excellent performance is proposed for wireless coverage for vactrains. The simulation of the leaky waveguide is conducted, and the results show the uniform phase distribution along the horizontal direction of the tube, but also the smooth field distribution at the point far away from the leaky waveguide, which can suppress Doppler frequency shift, indicating that the time-varying frequency-selective fading channel could be approximated as a stationary channel. -

Part 1:Peace and Unification Q1 A138th On June 25th the KPA army crossed the 38th parallel with tanks and artillery and quickly started to overrun South Korea. The southern ROK forces were not as well for war and quickly. The North Koreans would have probably secured the peninsula if UN forces had not intervened. The US interest in Korea was mostly to keep Japan secure and limit the USSR’s. Initially, UN forces were driven back until they occupied only a small of the peninsula in South Korea. Eventually, the UN forces were able to the tide and almost took control of the entire peninsula until China decided to 1 The Korean Armistice Agreement was between the United Nations Command, the Korean People’s Army for North Korea and the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army. The Armistice Agreement supposed to be drafted soon after the Armistice Agreement was signed. However, a peace treaty still has not been reached and North and South Korea are still technically at war. Also, South Korea’s president Rhee never signed the Armistice Agreement because he not accept Korea as being divided. Rhee wanted to completely unify the peninsula but would be unable to do so without the support of the UN forces. Kim Il-Sung also did not want to sign an armistice, to cease. Another provision in the Q3 Armistice was the swapping of prisoners of war. A3 Korean The Joint Security Area was established as the place for negotiation to take place and it is the only place that the North Korean and UNC forces meet face to face. -
Innovation for Sustainability
Innovation for sustainability Expansion Joint System is a main object installed in bridge construction for smooth movement of bridge deck from temperature change, drying shrinkage, live load, etc. It is frequently damaged by increase of traffic volume, inattention on installation and maintenance, and that causes secondary damage on durability issues of the bridge construction. The Long-run Expansion Joint System that we developed as an innovative maintenance method is designed to solve the inefficiency of the existing expansion joint system based on our experiences as a professional facility maintenance and safety inspection company on Bridge Expansion Joint System. Currently, the expansion joint is considered as a consumable material and Long-run Expansion Joint has changed the concept into a permanent component of the bridges. We have registered 26 patents and utility models on this system and acquired New Excellent Technology Certification, Installation Method of the Finger Type-Expansion Joint Device having the separable top and bottom plates within the bird's mouth structure from Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in Korea. Further, we have developed an Earthquake-Resistant expansion joint system that movable to three axes of X, Y, Z during seismic reaction to minimize the damage on bridge. It is reusable after the seismic reaction stops if it is applied with a damper and bearing. Saving cost is additional attraction of the joint. Analytical param- + − - 3− eters were NH4 -N, NO2 -N, NO3-N, PO4 -P as nutrient index and COD as organic index by water test reagents in conjunction with spectrophotometric method. The result has been shown total inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus and COD were ranged 0.72~6.01 ppm, 0.01~0.49 ppm, 1.73~19.99 ppm respectively. Con- tamination degree of water quality was increased from Chunho Bridge to downstream. Modified KNN method is used for short-term prediction from recent 2 years of historical data set. Pattern of the day of the week is used to predict long-term. To overcome the gap between the result of short-term and long-term prediction, the weighted average for two predicted results is considered as the final predicted result. The proposed method is tested in the real urban expressway network and the performance of the proposed method is evaluated in this paper. INTRODUCTION Drivers usually precede a trip by checking out the traffic conditions for their route using computers, smart phones, or navigation systems. Even after they determine their travel route based on the information prior to the departure, they constantly look for the optimal travel route through navigation systems while driving. This is why the predicted traffic information is getting more important the advanced route planning. The predicted traffic information is produced in two steps, traffic state estimation and traffic state prediction. -
