Irish football is its own worst enemy!!! The FAI High Performance Director, Ruud Dokter, is quite insistent Gerry Murtagh on maintaining his Pathway programme which would see League of *********************************** Ireland clubs take over the development of our footballing talent at Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19 level. U13s Important Win in SFAI We as a schoolboy club, who have been at the forefront of the development of schoolboy players for over 50 years, do not necessarily agree with Mr Dokter’s stance and believe that we have a very important role to play in the development of elite players. We have met with the FAI on a number of occasions with regard to having St Kevins Boys included in these proposed leagues but are constantly informed that we do not meet the criteria necessary. On enquiry as to the criteria that we fall short on we never receive a clear answer. Now, we don’t want this to sound like sour grapes but there has to be a better way to solve the current impasse. It would strike me that it would have made more sense for the FAI to appoint a panel of LOI people and a panel of those at the top end of schoolboy development along with Mr Dokter to work towards a solution that benefits all those involved. Throughout the last twenty years the main clubs at the forefront of Our Under 13 DDSL Premier team and Crumlin Utd met each other developing players have been St Kevins Boys, St Josephs Boys, in the SFAI Sketchers Cup recently in Shanowen Road in a game Cherry Orchard, Belvedere, Home Farm and a few others. that would see the winners progress to the last 32 of the competition. On Saturday, Steven Gerrard was on the receiving end when a chant of "What the f****** hell was that?" erupted after he skied a free kick, sending the ball into the heart of the stand. If that was good-natured, the next bout of mocking was not. The laughter that greeted Gerrard being asked whether Liverpool would flourish in his absence should send shockwaves through a club whose fans are rapidly losing faith. A second 3-1 defeat by Crystal Palace of a campaign that has screamed mediocrity almost from start to finish ensured the Liverpool supporters were in no mood to match Gerrard's diplomatic response to that question. Not since "Hodgson for England" was sung in irony has an Anfield crowd treated its own with such disdain. Had the club's principal owners, John W. Henry and Tom Werner, been present they might have got the message that all is not well but they had not seen Gerrard's final game at Anfield as a good enough reason to attend, choosing to stay in the United States. The pair continue to watch the team they own on television but it is only by being at the stadium that they would be able to understand the full extent of the disconnect between supporters and team.

  • Dundalk Hit the Right Notes to Beat Finn Harps
English 3rd-6th Class Developing skills of Comprehension Dundalk hit the right notes to beat Finn Harps Dundalk took a deserved three points following a comprehensive two goal victory over Finn Harps at a damp Oriel Park on Monday night. Dundalk bossed the first half and took an early lead through former Derry City attacker Patrick Mc Eleney who ghosted along the edge of the penalty area before firing a shot low into the bottom right hand corner of Ciaran Gallagher’s net on six minutes. That appeared to set the tone for a goal laden evening however this failed to materialise in the opening forty five minutes as the home side had the monopoly on possession but failed to increase their lead due to a well organised Finn Harps defence. Gallagher, who had missed the side’s first league meeting due to work commitments, was a busy man in the first half as he saved well from both John Mountney and Daryl Horgan in quick succession before referee Neil Doyle was forced to intervene and ask the net minder to speed up his set pieces. Just on the stroke of half time Dundalk almost increased their lead but Paddy Barrett’s close range header from an inswinging free kick thumped the crossbar and Harps escaped further punishment. The second half began in a subdued manner as Ruairí Keating departed the field on a stretcher in the 52nd minute and his replacement David Scully was one of five Harps players booked in the second half. Manager Ollie Horgan was sent to the stand for protesting following the booking of Gallagher for timewasting in the 68th minute and his name sake Daryl put the game to bed less than ten minutes later as he rifled the ball home from ten yards following Dundalk pressure down the right.
