Post ‘60 Academic Center Campus Center Named for Gateway to the Future Promotes Collaborative Learning Distinguished Alumnus F ROM THE I NTERIM P RESIDENT As members of the extended Saint Joseph’s community, we find ourselves in an enviable position. After a period of unprecedented growth and expansion that has meant so much to the student experience, both inside the classroom and out, it is time now to bring new energy and focus to our academic mission. The University’s academic leadership has crafted a multi-year strategic plan, Seeking the Magis. Designed to broaden and enhance our academic program offerings and deepen our commitment to Ignatian values, this initiative is the next necessary step in the pursuit of our academic goals. The chief priorities of the plan are to improve our competitive position by strengthening existing programs and continuing to evolve the curriculum through the full implementation of the General Education Program. This will involve the development of interdisciplinary programs that leverage the strengths of the faculty in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the Haub School of Business. These priorities will require that we hire new faculty and make significant investments in academic programming. Just as important to the plan is to develop further the transformative learning experiences that call on our students to become women and men with and for others. It has been a privilege to present a draft of the academic plan to our faculty, staff, students and the Board of Trustees, and I value highly the feedback and support it has received.

  • The Process of Creating a Digital Communication Model for the Vatican
The Person and the Challenges Volume 11 (2021) Number 1, p. 103–121 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15633/pch.3887 Józef Kloch ORCID: http://orcid.org/0000-0002-7830-7745 Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland The Process of Creating a Digital Communication Model for the Vatican Abstract In 1978, in the Holy See, all communication took place thanks to the analogue techno logy of text, sound and image recording. In the following years, the progress in com puter science, made it possible to save any kind of data in the form of digital recording, so that one could collect data and transfer it to any place in an instant. Digitalization also allowed the Vatican to create a new model of communication with the modern world. This model was first based on the capabilities of computer networks and then on the Internet. It was first tested by the Holy See in Latin America. The experience of the Latin American Church’s Computer Network (RIIAL) was transferred to the Vatican, and then developed and proposed by John Paul II to the entire Universal Church. This model of digital communication would not have been possible without collaborators such as John Patrick Foley, Judith Zoebelein, Joaquin NavarroValls and a group of lay Catholics and clergy from Latin America. It was thanks to them that the Holy See began to communicate digitally through the World Wide Web and to use email in a relatively short time since their invention. The present analysis concerns the creation of a digital model of communication during the pontificate of John Paul II (1978–2005).The inclu sion of social media in the communication model of the Vatican, took place during the successors of the Pope from Poland.
