TALES FROM MY BANK OF MY BAD HABITS Can it be that the hottest Frosted Party yet has chased winter away? I’m sitting on my deck, outside in the sun, writing this article; and the snow has melted and it appears spring is just around the corner. Speaking of the Frosted Party, a few thanks are in order. As much as I want to thank everyone who made the party a great success, I always have a fear that I may miss someone. So before I start, let me thank and apologize to anyone who worked the event whose name maybe missing. Special thanks to our Long Island area coordinators who spent the last few months putting the party together. Ray and Ralph did a great job, and Ralph’s first event as an area coordinator was a hit. Great job guys. Thanks to Bosco and Nancy for the badges and Kathy Lucano for working the door. Rodney Olsen, Larry Sullivan, Ed Travers and Lorraine & Eric Rosen for their great donations to the raffle. Thanks to Lorraine Bosshard for the great center pieces and Larry DeGennaro for the stickers. Thanks to Alison for the games and Linda Masten for selling all of those raffle tickets and Peter Bosshard for dealing with the Hilton this past year, truly a thankless job. And since I mentioned the Hilton, should I thank them for not having the room ready on time, having the wrong size stage, giving away our hospitality suite and the high drink prices, I think not !!!!!!! Thanks to Steve Kareta and Changes in Latitudes for the great tunes in the Savoy and Craig Beierlein for the great tunes upstairs. Thanks to Tom Dalton for selling our new Metro merchandise and carrying all the donated food to our charity. And lastly, I would like to thank my wife Carol for making sure I didn’t fall down and break something else. Because of your generosity, we have been able to present Long Island Cares with 350 pounds of food and a check for $1,000, all in memory of Ken Do Scotto .
So what’s next. How about the Islanders/Devils game on March 13 th and the March Happy Hour (East meets West) on March 20 th . A lot of Metros are heading to Punta Gorda Florida on April 8 – 11 th for Jim Morris’ Magic on the Water . And don’t forget our biggest fund raiser of the year, Metro and Morris, at the Acoustic Café and Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 11 and 12 th . Carol and I would greatly appreciate assistance from anyone in helping to obtain silent auction items for this year’s event. Finally, Jimmy Buffett will be playing Jones Beach on Tuesday, August 31 st . It looks like we’re off to a great start to a busy season in the sun. See you on the beach. A lot of our club members have expressed an interest in havi ng a HH in Nassau County, so in order to meet their demands (with all the requests we should have a SRO Happy Hour) we will hold our Happy Hour which will commence at 7:00 PM at:

Dear Readers: I realized I had a lot to say about this trip to MOTM. The story is just about the first few hours of Day One. So this is Part 1 of two or three parts in a couple of newsletters. For those who never went to MOTM, I think you will enjoy getting a good picture of what I experienced.
My First MOTM—2009
By Carole J. Brandi Walking and Meeting is most of what I did and in between those spaces …... Who Did I Meet? Parrot Heads from clubs around the country, Trop Rock Musicians galore, B&B Owners, Radio DJs, and of course lots of Locals. So much of the theme of my story focuses around MEETINGS. And these were far from the corporate kind. I had been to Key West four other times but this time was totally different and zany only I had no idea what was in store. MOTM 2009 was a combo of the good, the bad and what the heck was that? I arrived in Marathon Key on Thursday night late. Stayed with good friends Jim and Ellen Hill at their lakefront condo. That was heavenly and the sun was blazing the next day for my drive down the Seven Mile Bridge. The window down and the radio playing I was breathing in that air that is unmistakable. My first stop was at Casa Marina to register. Having never been there, it was magical! Doors being held by Parrot Head greeters, the mini-mart full of tropical goodies, and the registration area with so many awesome raffle baskets. More like a reunion and new friends from coast to coast. I left MOTM with Jim Morris songs on repeat in my head. The hurricane had me hightailing it out of there early Sunday. I truly was trying to reason with hurricane season in a hammock on the beach at Casa Marina. This moment marked the first of many MEETINGS that would take place in this short little weekend. Goody bags in hand, I headed to the bathroom to change into my bathing suit and cover-up. Now I was officially in my Key West garb and lanyard on. I headed to the pool and met up with my friend Tracy who was hanging with METRO Eileen. Nice to see familiar faces. I felt like I was late to a party since so many people got there Wednesday or before and it was already Friday late morning. They were takin’ some sun but I just wanted to take it ALL in. I wasn’t sure where to go first. My car was parked close by so I got rid of some of the bags—really full Margaritaville Key West extremely recognizable shopping bags. Just love it! I had my friend’s bag too so I felt like I won some cool PH contest. OK bags in trunk, tote bag on my arm and I was off. An old friend texted me to let me know that he was at The Reach Beach. I was torn because I wanted to meet my friend Angela at Louie’s Backyard. I decided on the beach and entered through the back gate that some of the locals told me about (gee I stayed there three times and never knew about that gate. Good tip!). We soaked up some sun and the water was calm. Little did I know this would be the ONLY sun I would get for the entire trip!! We left at about 1 pm. I had my band spreadsheet ready and knew which acts I needed to see while on the Island for this convention. But it was almost time for Street Fest. My heart was set on seeing Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band with the Johnson Outboard makin’ margaritas LIVE! I had to go check into my Inn off of Duval first so I got that out of the way and parked my car back at Casa on the street for FREE : ) I remember going to the front of the Casa and getting into a pink parrot head shuttle van that was headed to Street Fest. I got to sit in the front seat, since we were packed in. I was so excited. Finally back in Key West. Felt like I never left. The drive seemed to be as long as 2 minutes. And there I was on Duval right by the side of the stage! I was kinda overwhelmed and had to get my bearings as to how far up Duval Fleming was. I stopped on the corner to talk to a couple dressed as pirates. That was an awesome MEETING, since they were in character and all. Turns out on Saturday I saw them in the hat contest and I remembered they were with N.C. Triad. Then it hit me. I needed to go MEET another singer that I MET my first year in Key West but had not seen in 4 years. Alphonse plays at Rick’s and it was like I stepped back in time. Only this time the MEETING included Jim and Ellen and Gary Philips. I had a fun time and my first drink on the Island and then we all were off to Cheeseburger. I had not been to this Duval bar before but what a cool place. You can get a souvenir pineapple drink cup and many of my friends did! Jim and Gary performed for the crowd and then I joined Jim onstage for 2 songs playing tambourine. So it was official—I performed on Duval in Key West!! And then two of my distant Parrot Head friends Sally and Sean walked in. It had been months since I last MET them. To be continued …
TERM LEARNED THIS DAY: Tequila Wench —the woman carrying a lazy susan device that had a palm tree in the middle and 8 shot glasses around it filled with tequila that would be consumed throughout the first set by Jim Morris and the Big Bamboo Band!
