Parrot Press PARROT PRESS Metro Parrot Head Newsletter March 2010 NY, NJ, CT Vol. 18 No. 3 TALES FROM MY BANK OF MY BAD HABITS Can it be that the hottest Frosted Party yet has chased winter away? I’m sitting on my deck, outside in the sun, writing this article; and the snow has melted and it appears spring is just around the corner. Speaking of the Frosted Party, a few thanks are in order. As much as I want to thank everyone who made the party a great success, I always have a fear that I may miss someone. So before I start, let me thank and apologize to anyone who worked the event whose name maybe missing. Special thanks to our Long Island area coordinators who spent the last few months putting the party together. Ray and Ralph did a great job, and Ralph’s first event as an area coordinator was a hit. Great job guys. Thanks to Bosco and Nancy for the badges and Kathy Lucano for working the door. Rodney Olsen, Larry Sullivan, Ed Travers and Lorraine & Eric Rosen for their great donations to the raffle. Thanks to Lorraine Bosshard for the great center pieces and Larry DeGennaro for the stickers. Thanks to Alison for the games and Linda Masten for selling all of those raffle tickets and Peter Bosshard for dealing with the Hilton this past year, truly a thankless job. And since I mentioned the Hilton, should I thank them for not having the room ready on time, having the wrong size stage, giving away our hospitality suite and the high drink prices, I think not !!!!!!! Thanks to Steve Kareta and Changes in Latitudes for the great tunes in the Savoy and Craig Beierlein for the great tunes upstairs. Thanks to Tom Dalton for selling our new Metro merchandise and carrying all the donated food to our charity. And lastly, I would like to thank my wife Carol for making sure I didn’t fall down and break something else. Because of your generosity, we have been able to present Long Island Cares with 350 pounds of food and a check for $1,000, all in memory of Ken Do Scotto . So what’s next. How about the Islanders/Devils game on March 13 th and the March Happy Hour (East meets West) on March 20 th . A lot of Metros are heading to Punta Gorda Florida on April 8 – 11 th for Jim Morris’ Magic on the Water . And don’t forget our biggest fund raiser of the year, Metro and Morris, at the Acoustic Café and Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 11 and 12 th . Carol and I would greatly appreciate assistance from anyone in helping to obtain silent auction items for this year’s event. Finally, Jimmy Buffett will be playing Jones Beach on Tuesday, August 31 st . It looks like we’re off to a great start to a busy season in the sun. See you on the beach. Dave Pittman aka CoconutHead From 1995 to 2001, the band CoconutHead supplied the gulf coast panhandle with top-notch acoustic Jimmy Buffett music. Now based out of the upstate of South Carolina, Dave Pittman, the lead singer and acoustic guitar player, continues to perform solo as CoconutHead. CoconutHead is just what the parrot heads ordered! Playing a large selection of acoustic Jimmy Buffett tunes, Dave Pittman covers everything from the popular “Songs You Know By Heart” to the more obscure parrot head favorites. His song list includes music related to Jimmy Buffett such as In the Meantime, Chain of Love, and Suzannah by Buffett’s guitarist Peter Mayer, crowd favorite hits by Bob Marley such as No Woman, No Cry and Redemption Song, and the Eagles' Tequila Sunrise served up right along side Margaritaville. A long time parrot head himself, Dave Pittman knows exactly what Jimmy Buffett fans want: Acoustic performances with the intensity and freshness that Jimmy Buffett had when he started in the 1970’s. Let CoconutHead excite your crowd into a Feeding Frenzy with requests and audience sing-alongs. Far left: Dave plays on St. George Island, FL Left: Greg “Fingers” Taylor plays with CoconutHead in Tallahassee, FL. Right: Dave entertains the parrotheads in W.
