Principal’s Report

What a pace we have set over the first month of Term 2.

On Friday afternoon, at the conclusion of what was a very busy day celebrating our Mums, l was immensely proud of each member of the team I am privileged to lead at Boree Creek PS. At Boree Creek PS we truly are blessed with the best. I trust all the Mums and Mother figures had a wonderful Mother’s Day. We enjoyed opening our school doors and in a small tangible way say thank you for the integral role you play in each of our lives. Thank you, Miss Marley, for your organisation to ensure our Mother’s Day celebration was a wonderful success. It is a privilege to work alongside committed professionals who are passionate about supporting the children and young people of Boree Creek. I would also like to thanks each family for their continued support of our fantastic little school. Last week we had an array of school activities and the success of these was due in part to you, thank you.

Southern Cross Country

Last Monday Boree Creek PS hosted the Southern Riverina Cross Country Carnival at Lockhart Golf Club. The weather forecast looked ominous but thankfully the day turned out to be a sublime with wonderful running weather. Boree Creek had 12 students represent ing in our Greater Kengal team. With just under 300 competitors ready to run 2kms (8/9/10 year old’s) or 3km (11/12/13 year old’s) the competition was stiff with a couple of outstanding performances. A special mention to; Ava Cunningham – 1st place 11 years girls

nd Charlie Patey – 2 place 12/13 years boys Both Ava and Charlie have made it on to the next level, Riverina on Thursday 10th June, congratulations. On the day the P&C catered for the event and ensured all competitors were fed and hydrated. Thank you to Principal’s Message Principal’s

all who helped out in the canteen on the day. The day was a huge success, in part to each of you, thank you. –

Greater Kengal Athletics Carnival

Last Thursday Yerong Creek PS hosted the Greater Kengal Athletics Carnival at the Lockhart football ovals. The weather was superb and the day was action packed with students running., throwing, jumping and trying their best. Throughout the day there were some wonderful results and a number of students surprised themselves with how well they performed. On the day Boree Creek PS was crowned the overall champion school. Well

done to all, with a particular special mention to the following students; Juvenile Champion – Jett Cunningham Junior Boy Champion – Hamish Cunningham Senior Girls Champion – Ava Cunningham Senior Boys Champion – Charlie Patey Individual Overall Champion – Ava Cunningham. main PublicThank you to Yerong School Creek for organising the day.

Festival of Instrumental Music

Last week it was decided that as a school we wouldn’t be submitting an expression of interest for the Festival of Instrumental Music for the 2021 school year. Although this is disappointing, it would have been difficult to maintain a level of excellence with reduced teaching time before the performance. As well as this, we know there are a number of families that have prior commitments during the week of the proposed concert. Cold Weather and Uniforms

As the cold weather approaches, we have noticed lots of jumpers and jackets being left at school in the playground at the end of the day. Many of these items do not have names in them. Please check that clothing is clearly labelled and remind your children to collect their clothing at the end of each day.

We appreciate that the vast majority of families go to great lengths to ensure your children are in uniform. It contributes to the great reputation of the school with students wearing a uniform with pride. Onsite we have a

range of new and second-hand uniform items for purchase. Please come in and have a chat to Mrs Patey if you

would like to purchase a jumper, jacket or shirt. As a school we are happy to place orders through each of our suppliers to ensure wearing the uniform is as easy as possible for all families. Student Attendance

Continuing this year is a focus on improving student attendance. As a school our attendance is slightly below the DoE state average and we are aiming to improve this. Did you know…….

Principal’s Message Principal’s

hool As the weather begins to cool down, it can be a little more challenging to get out of bed each morning. No doubt there are some reluctant students who may want to stay home, however, can l encourage you to make

attendance a high priority. Our school is safe and we are doing everything possible to ensure it stays that way. In saying that, on occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

. being sick, or having an infectious disease . having an unavoidable medical appointment . being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

. exceptional or urgent family circumstance (e.g. attending a funeral). Following any absence parents/caregivers must ensure that within 7 days you provide a verbal or written explanation for the absence. The preference for this is to call Wendy Patey in the front office who will record attendance records directly onto our online platform. Boree Creek Public Sc Public Creek Boree

2021 NAPLAN Testing

Throughout this week, our Year 3 and 5 students will sit the NAPLAN Assessment. This testing is a snap shot in time and is a wonderful opportunity for students to shine and demonstrate what they can independently do. In saying that, can I please assure you that as the principal I have no intention to use NAPLAN other than a tool to help us as teachers to better tailor our learning to our students. We will not be using NAPLAN as a tool to ‘teach to the test’. During the NAPLAN testing period this week, please ensure that your children are not concerned about the assessment. Whilst they provide us with valuable information, they should not be any cause of undue stress. As teachers we use many different sources of information to target teaching, NAPLAN is only one of them. If you or your child are concerned about NAPLAN, please talk to us. We wish them all the best. An outline

of what tests are administered each day over the next three days is below.

Tuesday 11 May Wednesday 12 May Thursday 13 May 9:15am - Language Conventions test 9:15am - Reading Test 9:15am - Numeracy Test

10:15am - Writing Test Before and After School Care

Have Your Say on Before and After School Care Does your child need before and after school care? We want to hear from you – please complete a short survey to help us understand your family’s needs for out of school hours care. Your responses will shape what we do to expand before and after School Care across NSW.

Please complete the survey via the following website link: https://surveys.education.nsw.gov.au/s3/OSHCParentsSurvey. The survey will be open until 24 May 2021.

The survey has been designed to be easy to use and should take no more than two minutes to complete, with

Message Principal’s a few extra minutes for those who would like to supply additional information.

If you need a paper or over-the-phone version of the survey, or require survey translation, please contact the Department of Education Before and After School Care Program team by phone on 1300 244 145 or email at: [email protected]. P&C News

Australian Early Development Census

The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is a population-based measure of how children in have developed by the time they start their first year of full-time school. Miss Marley will complete a research tool, the Australian version of the Early Development Instrument (the Instrument) for each child in

kindergarten. The Instrument measures five key areas, or domains, of early childhood development:

• physical health and wellbeing

• social competence

• emotional maturity • language and cognitive skills (school-based) and • communication skills and general knowledge

These areas are closely linked to the predictors of adult health, education and social outcomes.

The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has endorsed the AEDC as a national progress measure of early childhood development in Australia. This census occurs triennially and we, along with most school around Australia will complete the census over the next month. If you do not wish for your child to be included

in the census, please phone the school on (02) 6927 1478 and speak to the Principal, Mr Jeremy Campbell.

Message Principal’s 3-6 Major Excursion –

We are excited to share that during Term 4 this year we are well under way planning for the Greater Kengal major excursion. Boree Creek PS is the organising school this year, with excursion destination planned for Canberra on Monday 18th October to Wednesday 20th October. While in Canberra students will engage in an array of educational experiences centred on Australia’s history, with a focus on democracy, currency and colonisation. The expected cost of the 3-6 major excursion is around $350.00 per student. To ensure the cost

is not prohibitive for any family there is financial assistance available, please phone the school (02) 6927 1478 and speak to the Principal, Mr Jeremy Campbell. Considering we are still in the planning phase; the actual cost is yet to be determined. To assist the planning team, we are asking parents of students in 3-6 to express interest in attending. To do so, complete the form attached to this newsletter and return to Mrs Wendy Patey in the School office with a $30.00 deposit.

Cybersafety

Safe practices online are extremely important. A simple to read parents’ guide is available through the eSaftey Commissioner’s page at https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/online-safety-guide The guide includes useful information on cybersafety, online pornography, sending nudes and sexting, time online, online gaming,

School Public Creek Boree unwanted contact and grooming and how to report abuse.

Have a great week.
