Primary Partnership During the summer term, we welcomed Year 5 students from ten different primary schools, over a period of five days. Our visitors enjoyed a range of lessons including: Science, English, Maths, Technology, Geography, Drama, History, PE, ICT and a very noisy Music lesson! Copious amounts of energy were then exerted with dodge ball, table tennis and the climbing wall. Judging by the smiling faces, an enjoyable time was had by all. Walton-le Dale Visit – Pizza Making LHA Sampler Day On 21st June and 5 July, we welcomed two very excited Year 3 classes from Walton-le-Dale Primary School. Peter Pan and Wendy @lostockacademy On 5th June the Year 10 Performing Arts group took a trip to Preston College to watch their Year 12 and 13 performance of Peter Pan and Y11 GCSE Business class Wendy. The group were inspired by the performance and really enjoyed seeing what they might do in college. Miss Gregson's Year 11 GCSE Business class enjoying one of their last lessons. This class worked hard to prepare themselves for their GCSE Open evening exams. Lostock Carnival Samba Band Meymac Outdoor Activities Residential (July 2019) Students from Year 7-10 took part in the Samba Band, processing at the Lostock Hall Carnival on Saturday 6th July. The band entertained thousands of people who lined the streets of Lostock Hall for the celebrations in this annual event. Thank you to all the students who took part, to James and Keith who sent in photographs and not forgetting the local community for organising the event. In addition, to top it off were the lucky winners of ‘Best Turned Out Float' trophy!

Forty-one Year 9 students travelled to the Club Correze site at Meymac, France for a fun-filled week long residential involving a lot of different land and water based activities. Lostock Hall Academy has been to Meymac many times over the last thirty years and students always make cherished memories that are often among the best from their time at the school.

All the students involved were given the opportunity to participate in two full days of water sports (boarding, canoeing, kayaking, sailing) on the stunning lake adjacent to the Club Correze site with many of them spending as much time in the water as actually on it! Two days of land sports included archery, air rifle shooting, climbing, fencing and orienteering. I am very pleased to confirm that after a thorough process we have appointed our Head Students and Senior Prefects for the academic year 2019/20.

Year on year the competition for these prestigious positions becomes increasingly more difficult to choose from. It is with great pride that we see an increasing number of students who are both wishing to be considered and who all have a lot to offer the academy. This year was no exception.

I am proud to announce that Cassia Whittham and Ciaran Whiteside were appointed as Head Students, alongside 6 Senior Prefects.

Below you will find an introduction to the team from Ciaran and Cassia. Both Cassia and I are extremely grateful for the opportunity that has been given to us and for being appointed to the roles of Head Students at the academy. Ciaran Whiteside & Cassia Whittham Brass Events LHA Brass Band have been busy over the past few weeks, performing to captive audiences in school and the local area. Two concerts of note were Brass Attack on Monday 8th July and a visit to St Mary's & St Benedict's RC Primary School in on Friday 12th July. Brass Attack was organised by Leyland Band and featured Lostock Hall Village Brass Band, LHA Brass Band and LHCPS Brass Band. Students performed varied repertoire with confidence and maturity. Sports Day 2019 The annual Lostock Hall Academy Sports Day, held with 7L (280 combined points) finishing only two on Tuesday 16th July, once again proved to be an points ahead of 7S (278 combined points). Year 7 Make or Bake Challenge Well done to our very own sewing bees who have now gained skills in machine maintenance, stitching 7PQH and 7PQA have been learning about how geomorphological processes shape our land and create river techniques and pattern cutting. All with help and thanks to Mrs Harvey. Look out for more workshops next profiles. 7PQL have been learning about height on maps, and to assist them in recognising how contours look in real life, students created some contour models. The end results look amazing, and they should be very proud of their work! Great Effort!!

Inspiring the Creatives

Students embarking on their GCSE Media Studies course whetted their appetite for careers in media by visiting UCLAN’s superb ‘Undergraduate Degree Show of Culture and Creative Industries’.

Throughout the day, students toured a number of exhibitions which showcased final products relating to art, photography, advertising, computer game design and animation degree courses. Students also participated in a number of workshops. A creative thinking workshop gave students an excellent insight into careers in print and text-based media and encouraged originality of ideas. In addition, a workshop in computer game design opened up a whole new world of careers such as computer game architect, game narrative writer and game character developer. Yr 10 Geography Fieldwork Year 10 went to Cleveleys recently to gather data for their GCSE exam. Reservoir Safety Theatre Performance Forest School On Friday 5th July all Year 7, 8 and 9 students watched a Reservoir Safety Theatre performance in the assembly A group of Year 7 students have taken part in the Forest School initiative. Outdoor Activities at Kingswood (June 2019)

Year 7 students recently enjoyed a superb two night stay at the Kingswood Colomendy Centre. 30 boys and girls participated in a wide range of challenges that were designed to improve confidence, communication and team working skills. Activities included climbing, caving and low ropes challenge – with the whole group finishing off with the giant zip wire on the final day! The weather was excellent and a great time was had by all students and staff involved. Lostock's Got Talent Students from across school auditioned for the final of LGT, performing to whole school on Thursday 18th July. Various acts including singers, grime artists and dancers battled it out with constructive feedback being given by the panel of judges. Winners were announced in the final assembly on 19th July. The whole event was organised by the Year 10 BTEC Music group as part of their course. Well done to all. Congratulations to James who won 1st Prize, Charlie 2nd, Amber 3rd, Best Interpretation Award to Jordan, Most Original Act Becky and Megan, Most Promising Act Marriane and last but not least Most Entertaining went to Nowaysis! Rewards Assembly Another terrific end to the school year, on the final day we held our rewards assembly and were joined by the Rotary Club, Mr Lees and Mr Stevens who donated many of the prizes.
