This is an invitation-only event for clubs and societies challenged by the East India Club Yacht Squadron. The trophy is named in honour of the East India Club’s late member Lt-Col Charles Newman VC OBE TD DL, Croix de Guerre, Légion d'Honneur who was awarded the Victoria Cross for leading the Commandos on the St. Nazaire Raid. He is the only member of this club known to be awarded the Victoria Cross for action on or from water. The event was won in 2020 by the East India Club.

This is an invitation-only event for clubs and societies challenged by the East India Club Yacht Squadron. The trophy is named in honour of the East India Club’s late member Lt-Col Charles Newman VC OBE TD DL, Croix de Guerre, Légion d'Honneur who was awarded the Victoria Cross for leading the Commandos on the St. Nazaire Raid. He is the only member of this club known to be awarded the Victoria Cross for action on or from water. The event was won in 2017 by the East India Club.
