With its rigorous instruction and coaching, as well as performance opportunities in concerts, recitals, and fully-staged operas, the Academy trains the most promising young singers from around the world, while also contributing to the performing arts community in the greater Philadelphia region. Founded in 1934, the Academy of Vocal Arts is the only tuition-free institution dedicated exclusively to the study of voice. When Resident Artists graduate from AVA, they are prepared to share their gifts with audiences around the world, fulfilling not only their own hopes and dreams, but those of AVA's wise and generous founder, Helen Corning Warden. Gifted singers come to Philadelphia from all over the world to seek the exceptional guidance and training that the Academy of Vocal Arts offers. Admission to the tuition-free program is determined yearly by competitive auditions. While hundreds of hopeful singers apply, only 8-10 are accepted into the four-year program. The Royal Opera House Announces Full Details of the 2021/22 Season
Tuesday 1 June 2021 The Royal Opera House announces full details of the 2021/22 Season • 11 new productions, including 5 world premieres, and 20 revivals. • An exciting roster of UK and international talent with many debuts The Royal Opera House today confirms details for its 2021/22 Season, the first full Season since 2019. Opening on Monday 13 September, the Season includes five world premieres from The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, classic revivals and an exciting roster of international and UK talent performing across the two stages of the Royal Opera House. In its 90th anniversary year, The Royal Ballet presents a Season that respects the past and heralds the future. Three world premieres, including Wayne McGregor’s The Dante Project, Christopher Wheeldon’s Like Water for Chocolate and a new work by American choreographer Kyle Abraham, are performed alongside much-loved 19th-century classics and heritage ballets by Frederick Ashton and Kenneth MacMillan. The Linbury Theatre hosts a raft of partnerships and co-productions including with Ballet Black, Alessandra Ferri, Yorke Dance Project and a world premiere from Company Wayne McGregor. Creative opportunities for emerging talent will also feature with Draft Works and the Next Generation Festival. The Season culminates in July 2022 with The Royal Ballet 1 making a welcome return to international touring with a three-week tour of Japan where the Company will perform Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon and Peter Wright’s Giselle. The Royal Opera Season will open with a new production of Verdi’s Rigoletto, directed by Oliver Mears – his first production since becoming The Royal Opera’s Director of Opera in 2017. -
Cast Change for Pagliacci
THURSDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2017 CAST AMENDMENT PAGLIACCI (Ruggero Leoncavallo) Wednesday 6 December 2017 at 12pm and Saturday 9 December 2017 at 7.30pm Due to a family emergency, Italian tenor Fabio Sartori has had to withdraw from the role of Canio in Pagliacci on 6 December and on 9 December. The role will now be sung by American tenor Bryan Hymel, who makes his debut in the role on 2 December, and who also makes his role debut as Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana). Bryan Hymel made his Royal Opera debut in 2010 as Don José (Carmen) and has since sung Prince (Rusalka), Aeneas (Les Troyens), the title role of Robert le diable, Henri (Les Vêpres siciliennes), Don José and Don Carlo for the Company. Earlier in the 2017/18 Season he returned to sing Henri for The Royal Opera. Recent engagements elsewhere include Don José, Alfredo Germont (La traviata) and Faust (La Damnation de Faust) for Paris Opéra, Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) for La Scala, Milan, Arnold (Guillaume Tell) and Rodolfo (La bohème) for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) for Deutsche Oper Berlin. The rest of the cast remains the same with British baritone Simon Keenlyside as Tonio, Italian soprano Carmen Giannattasio as Nedda, Polish baritone Andrzej Filończyk as Silvio and Portuguese tenor Luis Gomez as Beppe. Israeli conductor Daniel Oren conducts.
