Brickman The Temple Senior Rabbi search committee has continued its activities in February. Please follow this link to our latest update that can be seen on our Temple website http://templesinainola.com/2016/02/23/february-temple-sinai-senior-rabbi- search-update/. In addition, we will be sending this out via our regular weekly eblast. We appreciate your attention to our process and continue to thank everyone involved. Bob Brickman, President Cantor’s Notes- Cantor Joel Colman In the past few years after singing Paul Robeson’s “Old Man River,” many have approached me and let me know they were fortunate to have heard the song in person. My reaction is one of amazement as his career ended during the fifty’s. I am a bit jealous as I would have loved to have had the opportunity to also hear Mr. Robeson sing his signature song, “Old Man River.” In 1988 I had the opportunity to hear Robert McFerrin sing in St. Louis. He was the first African American to sing at the Metropolitan Opera. March 13th will mark a special occasion when Temple Sinai welcomes a native son, Bryan Hymel, for a lifetime musical event. Mr. Hymel is a world renowned opera star who performed at his alma mater, Loyola University. Bryan will grace our Bimah and sing in our glorious sanctuary on Sunday, March 13 at 6:00 pm. Please make every attempt to be one of the fortunate ones to hear Bryan Hymel. Bryan preformed in the Temple Sinai sanctuary in July 2005 prior to securing a prominent role with his unparallel voice in the opera world. For those who have never heard opera sung, please join us on March 13 at 6:00 pm. You will hear singing at its highest level and one day years from now you will be saying to someone, “I remember when I heard Bryan Hymel sing at Temple Sinai and I will never forget it.” Joining Bryan will be his talented wife, Irini. Her soprano voice will also grace our sanctuary. I will also have the honor of singing a selection from Carmen with Bryan. I assume some of you know the name, Norman Treigle. He is a famous opera singer from New Orleans. I am sure that many who will be crowed in our sanctuary on March 13 have hear his glorious voice in person. Lucky people!!! You can now be one of the lucky ones to hear Bryan Hymel. I promise you will be delighted. Sunday, March 13, 2016 6:00 pm A once in lifetime musical event at Temple Sinai! One of the opera world’s fastest rising stars, New Orleanian, Bryan Hymel, will appear in concert at Temple Sinai in the Sanctuary. This appearance will follow his current operatic roles at the Washington National Opera, London’s Royal Opera House, Opéra National de Paris, and the Metropolitan Opera. The New Yorker proclaimed “he has a voice of heroic stature.” As a special treat, he is coming in honor and tribute to the love he has shared with Rabbi Edward P. Cohn and Cantor Joel Colman, and the entire Temple Sinai family. Proceeds from this historic concert will be designated toward the Edward P. Cohn Rabbi Emeritus Chair and the Temple Sinai Cantor’s Music Fund.
