  • The Evolution of Media Coverage in Professional And
THE EVOLUTION OF MEDIA COVERAGE IN PROFESSIONAL AND COLLEGIATE ESPORTS A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE MASTER OF ARTS BY MICK TIDROW DR. ROBERT BROOKEY - ADVISOR BALL STATE UNIVERSITY MUNCIE, INDIANA MAY 2020 The Evolution of Media Coverage in Professional and Collegiate eSports 2 ABSTRACT THESIS: The Evolution of Media Coverage in Professional and Collegiate eSports STUDENT: Mick Tidrow DEGREE: Master of Arts COLLEGE: College of Communication, Information and Media DATE: May 2020 PAGES: 81 My thesis research is a comprehensive project looking at the evolution of media coverage in professional and collegiate eSports. Using the methodology of participant observation and interviewing allowed me to find commonalities between the answers of subjects and the data given by other research on the media coverage of eSporting events. I used a theoretical approach tailored toward media management and political economy to demonstrate how the understanding of economics in eSports can further change the media coverage of eSporting events. Media management, while primarily concerned with legacy media, is a theory with the potential to explain the changes eSports is bringing to sports media coverage. The overarching purpose of my thesis is to understand how both professional and collegiate sports coverage emerged from, and responds to, the social practice of eSports, and turns that coverage into a viable form of commercial media. The Evolution of Media Coverage in Professional and Collegiate eSports 3 DEDICATION I dedicate this project to the media who cover eSports and how they are evolving the industry. The opportunity for the media to enhance the eSports industry is quickly advancing.

Naiset videopelaajina Sanni Vesala Opinnäytetyö Tietojenkäsittelyn koulutusohjelma 2020 Tiivistelmä Tekijä(t) Sanni Vesala Koulutusohjelma Tietojenkäsittelyn koulutusohjelma Raportin/Opinnäytetyön nimi Sivu- ja liitesi- Naiset videopelaajina vumäärä 32 + 2 Videopelialaa on pidetty miesvaltaisena kautta aikojen. Asiasanat Naispelaajat, videopelit, pelaajat, pelaaminen, pelikulttuuri, harrastukset Sisällys 1 Johdanto ......................................................................................................................

  • With Twitch, Amazon Tightens Grip on Li...Ms of Video Games
2/6/2019 With Twitch, Amazon Tightens Grip on Live Streams of Video Games - The New York Times With Twitch, Amazon Tightens Grip on Live Streams of Video Games By John Herrman June 17, 2018 Late on a recent night, more than 600,000 people watched one of the most popular video game players, Tyler Blevins, engage in Fortnite Battle Royale with a celebrity guest: Drake. Mr. Blevins streams his near‑daily video game sessions live on Twitch, a website acquired by Amazon in 2014 for $1.1 billion. He makes more than $500,000 a month on the platform, thanks to his 250,000 paid subscribers, and some of his sessions can last 12 hours. Mr. Blevins, who plays under the name Ninja, is popular not only because of his gaming skill, which is considerable, but because of his draw as a host. Drake was deferential to Mr. Blevins as they teamed up before an audience that peaked at roughly 667,000 viewers, a ratings record (since broken) for a nontournament live stream. As the game progressed, the world‑famous rapper played a supporting role, collecting supplies for Ninja, seemingly content to lend a hand to a master at work. Like others who make significant money on Twitch, Mr. Blevins is a born talker, and he bantered with the fans as he and Drake played. Drake joined the conversation, too. He told the commenters that he liked pineapple on his pizza and explained that he was a Ninja fan before Twitch, back when Mr. Blevins, 27, first found fame among gamers on YouTube and Instagram.

The shift of legacy advertising and sponsorship dollars to esports’ audience demographics where the IP enabled targeting capabilities and measured advertising ROIs are in the early innings is on track to surpass the billion-dollar mark.
