Dean Lorne Tyrell originally established the Division in 1999 by the dissolution DIVISION SPOTLIGHT of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy into the Department of Cell Biology and the free-standing Division of Anatomy. The Division of Anatomy officially joined the Department of Surgery in 2014 under the direction of Dean Douglas Miller. The University of Alberta has a wonderfully pastoral burial site located at Westlawn that is marked by the University flag and a monument that bears an inscription that reads: “Here lie those who, in the interest of Humanity, donated their bodies to medical education and research”.
