Chakras General Description The word chakra comes from the Sanskrit language and means “spinning disk”. Each chakra is an energy vortex which expands outwardly and contains smaller vortexes within. These are believed to connect with and influence body organs, glands and nerve centres. We have seven main chakras in the body, connecting into a main energy channel along the spinal cord, linking all main chakras. There are also many smaller chakras over the body. Each main chakra connects the physical body to a specific energy body, allowing these non‐physical parts of our being to affect our physical body and mind. Energy Bodies Definition Energy bodies are within and extend beyond the physical body, creating the “aura” and different levels of thoughts and emotions. They are connected to the chakra system, and through it, to the physical body, the brain and the conscious mind that it creates. These energy bodies are made of energy vibrating at different levels. They however interpenetrate and affect each other. The energy bodies can be compared to the many different TV signals simultaneously existing all around us, in the same space, and individually identifiable by their specific frequency. However, unlike TV signals, energy bodies do affect one another, directly or indirectly. Learning about the energy bodies is the key to understanding how energy based healing techniques can achieve such visible and profound results. 6 of 10 Chakras and Energy Bodies www.ashati.org Although the physical body is not included as one of the human energy bodies, it is also made up of pure energy, on the subatomic level and beyond. Quantum physics offers more details about this level of physical matter. It is also important to understand that energy bodies are not all required to create the thoughts and emotions that we experience in the physical body. As long as your physical body (and brain) is alive and connected to your spirit, it will be able to let you experience thoughts and emotions. The energy bodies are additional levels of mental or emotional influences that affect your physical body, its awareness and at times its health. This connection to your spirit is currently done indirectly through an energy body called the soul, which is directly connected to your physical body. The Etheric Body (connected to the base chakra): The etheric body exists within the physical body. It replicates every part that creates the human body, and matter in general. Its main purpose is to form an energy template, or matrix, for the development, maintenance and repair of the physical body. It can be understood as a link between our physical self and our energy bodies, allowing them to have an influence on the physical body’s balance and development. This can be a positive influence, or it can be experienced as negative when repressed energies or other energetic blockages generate physical imbalances. The etheric body contains a vibrating energy counterpart for each organ, blood vessel, bone, etc. Whatever originates in the etheric body will, over time, be reflected in the physical body and may create what we call diseases. A disease therefore often appears in the energy field before it appears in the physical body. Conversely, traumas to the physical body (e.g. broken bones, burns, incisions...) will be immediately reflected in the etheric body. The Reiki and the Alsemia 1 and 2 energy activations are especially effective at healing, clearing and balancing this energy body. The Lower Emotional Body (connected to the sacral chakra). The lower emotional body follows the general shape of the physical and etheric bodies, but it is more amorphous and fluid, and it extends outwardly by a few centimetres. This body does not duplicate the physical body; it is more like an energy field. It contains moving energy "blobs" or "clouds” of different colours, each being felt as a specific emotion. These colours may vary from bright clear hues to dark muddy ones, depending on the type of emotions. 7 of 10 Chakras and Energy Bodies www.ashati.org Repressed emotions (emotions completely or partially disconnected from the person’s conscious mind) become stagnant blobs of energy in the lower emotional body. If these clouds of energy are also located inside the etheric body, which is very likely, they can disrupt the flow of energy within it, and over time this can lead to physical conditions. In this body, each of the seven main chakras appears in a different colour. These colours are the most commonly used ones (provided in the above section on chakras). The Lower Mental Body (connected to the solar plexus chakra). This bright yellow energy field is composed of even finer energies and structures, which influence our brain with the creation of thoughts and beliefs. These energies correspond to a lower level of mental energies, which, at times, can be felt as strong and controlling thoughts and beliefs. The level of consciousness they form is disconnected from the soul, and from the spirit within it. This body usually extends by a few centimetres from the lower emotional body. Within this body, individual thought forms appear as small blobs of light of different shapes and intensities. A strong connection exists between thoughts and

CHAPTER 3 Energy Healing Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie. —WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Describe the types of energy. 2. Explain the universal energy field (UEF). 3. Explain the human energy field (HEF). 4. Describe the seven auric layers. 5. Describe the seven chakras. 6. Define the concept of energy healing. 7. Describe various types of energy healing. INTRODUCTION For centuries, traditional healers worldwide have practiced methods of energy healing, viewing the body as a complex energy system with energy flowing through or over its surface (Rakel, 2007). Until recently, the Western world largely ignored the Eastern interpretation of humans as energy beings. However, times have changed dramatically and an exciting and promising new branch of academic inquiry and clinical research is opening in the area of energy healing (Oschman, 2000; Trivieri & Anderson, 2002). Scientists and energy therapists around the world have made discoveries that will forever alter our picture of human energetics. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is conducting research in areas such as energy healing and prayer, and major U.S. academic institutions are conducting large clinical trials in these areas. Approaches in exploring the concepts of life force and healing energy that previously appeared to compete or conflict have now been found to support each other. This led them to an absorption with the Jewish creation myths in Genesis, which they obsessively reinterpreted to formulate allegorical explanations of how humans ended up trapped in the world of matter. The basic Gnostic story, which varied in details from teacher to teacher, was this: In the beginning there was an unknowable, immaterial, and invisible God, sometimes called the Father of All and sometimes by other names. “He” was neither male nor female, and was composed of an implicitly finite amount of a living nonphysical substance. Surrounding this God was a great empty region called the Pleroma (the fullness). Beyond the Pleroma lay empty space. The God acted to fill the Pleroma through a series of emanations, a squeezing off of small portions of his/its nonphysical energetic divine material. In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas.

  • The Seven Sacred Bodies - Terms Excerpted from the Glossary of Empowerment
The Corpus Christi - science of the rainbow body The Seven Sacred Bodies - terms excerpted from the Glossary of Empowerment By Richard Rudd The Corpus Christi — One of the journeys making up the Gene Keys Synthesis, the Corpus Christi is the complete science of the ‘Rainbow Body’ — the true underlying nature of all human beings. The Corpus Christi is a synthesis of transmissions, teachings and techniques that underpins the 64 Gene Keys. Representing the higher ‘Mystery School’ teachings of the Gene Keys, it includes the teaching of the Seven Seals, the Seven Sacred Bodies and the Nine Initiations. Deep immersion in the teachings of the Corpus Christi assists you in grounding and embodying the higher frequencies of light into your everyday life. These are the teachings and techniques that allow you to draw the transmission of the Gene Keys layer by layer into the subtle bodies that make up your aura. Literally meaning ‘The Body of Christ’, the Corpus Christi prepares you to work with higher evolutionary frequencies by progressively purifying the many dimensions of your inner being, beginning with your physical body. The 1st Sacred Body - The Physical/Etheric Body Etheric Body — Sometimes known as the ‘etheric double’, the etheric body is the counterpart of your physical body, extending out beyond it into the aura. As the closest of the subtle bodies to the physical, the etheric body is quite well understood by many cultures, in particular in its relationship to our physical health. Systems such as acupuncture or energy medicine work directly on the etheric body, which consists of a vast network of subtle pathways, meridians or ‘nadis’, which create the fundamental grid of the aura.

  • The Astral Body with Blavatsky's Principal of ‘Kama’ (Desire) and Called It the Emotional Body
The Astral and Causal Bodies The first references to the Astral and Causal Bodies are found in the Upanishads the Ancient Philosophy of India. Historians have put the date of composition of the Upanishads to between 800 - 400 BC. The founder of Theosophy Helena Blavatsky also refers to the Astral and Causal Bodies. Theosophists C.W. Leadbeater and Annie Besant, equated the Astral Body with Blavatsky's principal of ‘Kama’ (desire) and called it the Emotional Body. The terms Astral Body, Desire Body, and Emotional Body have become synonymous. The Astral Body in later Theosophical writings is said to be ‘the vehicle of feelings and emotions’ through which ‘it is possible to experience all varieties of desire’. The Astral and Causal Bodies are also mentioned in the writings of Alice Bailey. Her books were written between 1919 and 1949. Her books were telepathically dictated to her by the Tibetan Master Djwal Khul. The texts describe him as a member of the 'Spiritual Hierarchy', or 'White Brotherhood', he is one of the Masters of the Ancient Wisdom, defined as the spiritual guides of mankind. Mandukya Upanishad The Mandukya Upanishad refers to the ‘Self’ (Soul) as having four "feet" or states of consciousness. These are - waking, dreaming, dreamless sleep, and the transcendent (Turiya). Each of these is associated with both an individual state of consciousness and a cosmic state. These four states of consciousness are linked to the four bodies – Physical, Astral, Causal and the Soul. Koshas According to Vedantic philosophy the Soul or Atma has five coverings or sheaths. These are called the Koshas.

  • The Etheric Web
The Etheric Web The human aura (energy field) is shaped like an egg and it surrounds the physical body. The aura is said to have a well-defined surface, which is elastic and if people are close together, the aura is compressed and does not mingle with the auras of others. The aura is made up of a number of layers. The densest layer is the etheric body. Beyond this layer lies the astral body and causal body. All three bodies interpenetrate the physical body. The surface of the aura has a special structure, called the ‘etheric web’ or ‘atomic web’. This is a web of filaments of etheric material. Clairvoyants see this as a fine web formed of thin, light emanating cords. The etheric web is similar to the Earth's magnetosphere. The Earth's magnetosphere is the first layer of protection against solar flares and it deflects the solar flare's charged particles. The etheric web shields a person from intrusions and stops thought forms and earth bound spirits from entering a person’s energy field. In psychically weakened or unwell people the etheric web may be damaged. The damaged parts of the etheric web appear to clairvoyants as black holes in the aura, the rest of the aura is seen by them as coloured light. People with damage to their etheric webs are in danger of being affected by the negative emotions of other people and the harmful suggestions of earth bound spirits. Mediums can access other realms safely via their aura, which can be closed and opened at will.

Leadbeater Chapter -1- WHAT CLAIRVOYANCE IS [Page 5] Clairvoyance means literally nothing more than "clear seeing", and it is a word which has been sorely misused, and even degraded so far as to be employed to describe the trickery of a mountebank in a variety show. Even in its more restricted sense it covers a wide range of phenomena, differing so greatly in character that it is not easy to give a definition of the word which shall be at once succinct and accurate. It has been called "spiritual vision", but no rendering could well be more misleading than that, for in the vast majority of cases there is no faculty connected with it which has the slightest claim to be honoured by so lofty a name. For the purpose of this treatise we may, perhaps, define it as the power to see what is hidden from ordinary physical sight. It will be as well to premise that it is very frequently ( though by no means always ) accompanied by what is called clairaudience, or the power to hear what would be inaudible to the ordinary physical [Page 6] ear; and we will for the nonce take our title as covering this faculty also, in order to avoid the clumsiness of perpetually using two long words where one will suffice.

THE TEXTS OF ALICE A. BAILEY: AN INQUIRY INTO THE ROLE OF ESOTERICISM IN TRANSFORMING CONSCIOUSNESS I Wightman Doctor of Philosophy 2006 University of Western Sydney. IN APPRECIATION This thesis would not have been possible without the care, support, enthusiasm and intellectual guidance of my supervisor, Dr Lesley Kuhn, who has followed my research journey with dedicated interest throughout. I also acknowledge the loving kindness of Viveen at Sydney Goodwill, who has continuously praised and encouraged my work, and provided me with background material on the kind of activities that the worldwide community of Alice A. Bailey students are involved in. I sincerely appreciate the role my husband, Greg, played, as my cosmic co-traveller. Without him this thesis would never have materialized, his tireless engagement throughout these years has bolstered my drive to proceed to the very end. Finally, I acknowledge my children, Victoria and Elizabeth, for tolerating my reclusive behaviour, and giving me the space I have needed to write. Philosophy, in one of its functions, is the critic of cosmologies. It is its function to harmonise, refashion, and justify divergent intuitions as to the nature of things. It has to insist on the scrutiny of ultimate ideas, and on the retention of the whole of the evidence in shaping our cosmological scheme. Its business is to render explicit, and –so far as may be – efficient, a process which otherwise is unconsciously performed without rational tests (Alfred North Whitehead 1938:7). Box 270, Wheaton, Illinois 60189-0270 PREFACE THE PILGRIM AND THE PATH: LIVING THEOSOPHY Theosophy tells us that we are pilgrims, implying that we are on a journey to a particular place. If we decide that we are indeed pilgrims and start to look for the path that will take us to the goal of our pilgrimage, we should also have some idea of why we are traveling and where we are headed. To begin a process of self-unfoldment, we had also better know what is being unfolded. These matters are considered in the following lesson and some subsequent ones, based on chapters from a book by I. K. Taimni called Self-Culture or, in later American editions, A Way to Self-Discovery . Two other books will also be referred to ( The Pilgrim Self by Robert Ellwood and The Pilgrim and the Pilgrimage by Emily Sellon), and some supplementary material will be included. —J.A. The Aquarian Theosophist www.TheosophyOnline.com - www.CarlosCardosoAveline.com THE ETHERIC DOUBLE ? THE FAR-REACHING EFFECTS OF A FALSE ASSUMPTION ______________ G.A. FARTHING REVISED EDITION NOVEMBER 1996 1 The Aquarian Theosophist www.TheosophyOnline.com - www.CarlosCardosoAveline.com THE ETHERIC DOUBLE? G.A. FARTHING DIFFERENCES IN THEOSOPHICAL TEACHINGS AN EXAMINATION OF SOME OF THE DIFFERENCES IN DATA AND TERMINOLOGY BETWEEN THE ORIGINAL LITERATURE AND LATER VERSIONS Introduction There are many of the more thoughtful students of Theosophy and many teachers who are genuinely confused at the discrepancies they find between what has become known as second generation Theosophy (the Annie Besant/ C.W. Leadbeater or A.B./C.W.L. system) and the teachings of the two Masters instrumental in setting up the Theosophical Society and introducing Theosophy as given out through H.P. Blavatsky (the H.P.B./ Masters system). These discrepancies do not come to light as long as only one system is studied. In the minds of such students there are no difficulties or inconsistencies to worry about. The attitude can then well be that really there cannot be any serious divergences because surely the source of data, the main outlines of the Esoteric Science, are common to both systems, therefore discrepancies are likely to be trivial and really inconsiderable. This attitude is not really tenable but it is one generally held by those who have studied nothing but second generation literature. Moreover, it is this second generation literature which has become the commonly accepted one throughout the Adyar Society and generally in the world at large.
