Devas

The of the overshadowing Divine Plan is the consciousness of the Christ. The Plan in its form —that is, in its activity aspect as form—is of the highest order of available to the kingdom on this . It is the deva, the order of devas, referred to as the vestures or the risen Holy Ghost Aspect. This, then, is the overshadowing Divine Plan as held in focus by the consciousness of Christ within the of Christ—that mind being the risen Holy Ghost Aspect—the form nature of the Divine Plan itself.

Next we have the focal point of consciousness which is the Ashramic Group , with the etheric light body of the Planetary as the form nature or the deva of the Ashramic Group Life.

The key to contact with and control of the devas who constitute your form nature lies in this concept of the consciousness establishing itself in a focal point behind the breath. It is the fact that it is the nature of the form to breathe. It is not the nature of the consciousness to breathe. Devas are controlled via the appropriation of their breath. It is the direction of their life toward the manifestation of a given purpose. The completion of the alignment, or the completion of the circuit which is the completion of the alignment, can be made only via the appropriation by the consciousness of the life of the substantial forces on the lowest of appearance and the direction of that life back to the overshadowing source or the origin of the alignment.

The student of the Wisdom is more than a . He is a part of the Divine Plan in manifestation, and it is as that Divine Plan in manifestation that the protective power and presence of the Christ is invoked around him. Such protection not only throws a light upon his spiritual path of endeavor, both in consciousness and the outer experience which he must enter, through which he must pass, but it also screens, so to speak, those forces impacting his instrument from horizontally screening out all that would impact him which is out of harmony with his expression of the Divine Plan.

At the same , certain devas who are particularly affiliated with the Ashramic endeavor are invoked into a specific activity—that of sealing the solar plexus center of the new student in such a way as to provide the ultimate in protection for him. Immediately after the initiation of this particular work, he then begins to build the Soul-mind and brain alignment.

Surprisingly enough, the greatest glamour in regard to this particular subject lies in the area of the branches of clairaudience and —the idea of Masters appearing and of talking to disciples. If a Master appears and talks to you, he will do so in a physical body in company with others. He will not appear in some astral form, neither will he ever speak to you in words in astral or mental levels. You have no way of ascertaining who the owner of such a voice or appearance might be. It is a rather simple for the mind itself to conjure up such a vision, for it to deliver to the consciousness such words. It is also a rather simple matter, in certain cases of advanced sensitivity beyond the expansion of consciousness, for one to come into contact with an impostor on astral levels. You have no way of knowing the difference between a Master of the White Lodge if he were to appear before you or to speak with you in such a way, and shall we say, a member of the Black Lodge or some discarnate entity or even a misdirected deva.

The triangle of Masters responsible for this -form Presentation of the Wisdom have, as they entered into their creative work, created a group of devas. These devas carry the Wisdom. They are the vehicles, in a sense, through which that Wisdom is transmitted from its higher

Devas, A Compilation, Page 3 abstract meaning into its concrete facts and knowledge. They constitute the messengers of the Wisdom itself, taking that Wisdom from its natural habitat, so to speak, on the level of the Soul within the Ashramic Group Life and carry it to the student. Now they transmit, to the devic life of the student himself and to his consciousness, the Wisdom for which they are the vehicles, which they contain. As the lesson is projected, as the spoken word is sounded, these devas are not created by the teacher, but are released—called into action, directed, assigned to this particular student body. When a student leaves the class, he is attended by these particular devas who go with him from the class into his daily life and affairs and aid his comprehension of the Wisdom.

The deva is a life, the deva is an entity. Remember that the devic is an evolution parallel to that of consciousness. It is the evolution of energy, force, and substance, the evolution of intelligence itself as the negative polarity of .

Think again of the basic triangle of manifestation. There are the positive and negative poles of matter itself—spirit and matter. You remember, the positive pole and the negative pole are the highest and the lowest frequencies of one energy. Spirit is matter vibrating at its highest frequency, and matter is spirit vibrating at its lowest frequency. Within the magnetic field created by these two frequencies of one energy, consciousness is born. That consciousness is differentiated from spirit and matter. It is an evolution of itself—the evolution of consciousness, of the Soul—the magnetic field between spirit and matter, spirit and matter being the positive and negative poles of one energy. That one energy is the devic evolution from its highest aspect to its lowest aspect—spirit to matter. Those devas with which you come into contact are the devas which exist from the level of the Conscious Soul, the Overshadowing Soul within the Ashramic Group Life to your own focus within the instrument. These are the frequencies of matter with which you are in contact, and these are the devas that we refer to when we speak of devic forces insofar as you are concerned. This evolution of devic life continues clear on up to its highest aspect, which is Spirit.

Your bodies are made up of these three frequencies of matter which we define as mental, astral, and etheric. They constitute within themselves devas. The is a deva, with which your consciousness is specifically related. The is another deva with which you are specifically related. The is another one with which you are specifically related. Those bodies, these three devas, are evolving just as you are evolving, but theirs is the evolution of intelligence, the evolution of the negative polarity of the one energy. Yours is the evolution of consciousness.

It is via the cooperative relationship between you and your devas that the growth of both is achieved. Yours is the ability to impress upon your devas that which you are, in consciousness, and through the devas to express that which you are through their ability to receive that impression and to carry it out into expression, to reflect it, to depict it to you the consciousness. Thus evolves the consciousness and the devas. These are parallel , closely related.

Within the Ashramic Group Life, there are those devas which are made up of the frequencies of matter to which the consciousness, at that level, is specifically related—this being the midway point between the lower pole (the negative pole) and the positive, that point where spirit and matter are merging together. Here, these devas are of a much higher evolution than those of the instrument itself.

Each member of the Hierarchy, from the senior disciple (the focal point of an Ashram) to the Soul on the periphery of the Ashram, has under his jurisdiction certain groups of devas. These are his to direct into activity, and again—according to his impression upon them and their ability to carry that impression into outer expression—both of them evolve, the consciousness and the deva.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 4 The triangle of Masters responsible for the creation of the matter of this Thought-form Presentation of the Wisdom—selected from those devic within their jurisdiction a certain group of devas to act as the messengers of the Wisdom between the Ashram and the student body of the Wisdom. The Master M., the Master D.K., and myself impressed upon this group of devas the intent to carry the Wisdom as messengers to the student body. They also impressed upon them the direction to enter into action in response to the Teacher of the Wisdom who is given, in the very fact that he is a teacher, the right to direct and release these devas, to call them into activity. The method by which they are called into activity is that of the spoken word.

The lesson material was written in such a way as to be mantric in nature. A mantra is certain sounds in relationship to one another which when sounded, when spoken, direct the devas into their particular activity. The lesson material in its mantric nature is the sound which calls these devas that carry the Wisdom into their specific activity. The particular words that are used direct the devas in their particular and specific activity. One deva for instance, is carrying the Wisdom as it relates to the Will Aspect. Another deva will be carrying the Wisdom as it relates to the Love Aspect, another as it relates to the Intelligent Activity Aspect. Another deva or group of devas will be carrying the concept as they relate to meditation, etc. The words themselves direct the devas specifically and the sounding of the words call them into their activity so that they are actually directed by the teacher.

Consciousness and deva are interdependent, but they are, each one, something in itself, a life in itself.

The physical is first a Deva of Appearance. It is of appearance within a sub frequency of what I shall call at this particular time, for your understanding, the etheric itself. The physical elemental is a Deva of Appearance within a sub frequency of etheric substance. Therefore, while it is not itself a principle, it is derived from a principle. It is not the principle itself, but it is a derivation of a principle.

One of the greatest difficulties we are presented with in endeavoring to clarify this subject has to do with the fact that that which you think of as the , within which the Devas of Appearance are reflected, is a reflecting surface upon which the seven principles of matter are reflected into an appearance.

Consider for instance a frequency, a major tone being sounded. This tone is, constituted within itself, seven frequencies, these seven frequencies being defined as seven principles of that particular tone or sound. The sum total, plus the seven principles within it, causes to appear below itself what we can only refer to as a reflecting surface. They are not really, in one sense of the word, subtones; they are a reflection. This down here is a reflection of the sum total plus its seven principles.

Consider the etheric, this is the Matter Aspect. It is the Matter Aspect in relationship to Spirit, the positive pole. It has within it seven major notes or principles. What you know as the etheric is the seventh of the Divine Principles of substance, of matter.

Then below this, below the seventh frequency or subtone, is the physical plane of appearance, a reflecting surface which reflects that which comes into appearance within this seventh frequency of the Matter Aspect. These are seven principles of matter and ethers. The etheric body that we contact is this seventh principle of etheric substance.

Below that is like a sounding board. It is like a reflecting surface that is called the physical plane. Think of the physical plane with no appearance—no mountains, trees, , nothing. A frequency of matter itself has created below itself a reflecting surface. The reflecting surface

Devas, A Compilation, Page 5 is also sometimes called the periphery of manifestation. The outermost periphery of manifestation is the physical plane of appearance. Upon this reflecting surface, or periphery of manifestation, are the appearances of those forms which are existent within the seven principles, particularly this seventh principle of substance. Because there is a reflection, and because there is a Divine Purpose underlying that reflection, the etheric body of any particular form has extended itself into and crystallized the appearance into which you identify as a solid form.

In a sense, the physical might be likened to a crust, an outer covering, an outer crust or shell of the true physical-etheric form or the true substantial form. The secret in sense perception lies in this particular area. It has been the development of sensory perception which has created and crystallized this almost new frequency of substance, which you call the physical, which has, we might say, crystallized the Deva of Appearance into the solid form which it is.

Go back to our former statement: that it is the physical elemental which presents the incoming idea with its greatest opposition. Remember again the concept that our misinterpretation (of the fact that the Deva of Appearance, the physical form, is not a Divine Principle) indicates that the physical is evil. This impressed upon that Deva of Appearance the intent to oppose anything which is Divine. The hatred and the resentment which the revolving consciousness has in its misinterpretation to direct to the physical elemental has added to this intent to oppose that which is Divine, so that in a sense the astral body of the deva of the appearance itself then is oppositional. It is that part of the astral body (we are getting into very deep water here) which is directly related to the physical elemental, and which constitutes later a part of the Dweller on the Threshold.

I am projecting this in order for you to understand the oppositional nature of the physical elemental. That opposition is both physical and astral, and it becomes mental. It creates an opposition in that part of the astral body that is directly related with the physical elemental, and it creates an opposition in that part of the mental body which is directly related with the brain mind so that part of the mental body becomes oppositional to the idea. The emotional nature of the individual, not the astral body as such, but his own inner emotional nature, becomes oppositional. You might say the emotional content of the physical elemental is oppositional to the incoming idea because this is the reaction, or the action, you might say, that the physical elemental has upon the other bodies.

Now there is another point to be brought out here regarding the type of opposition which the physical elemental presents, and this is most difficult. I am going to have to present you with a concept which will be beyond your comprehension at this time. Therefore, I am going to ask you, please, to not dig into it now. Simply understand the connotation that it brings to bear upon this concept of opposition. In a sense, I am forced to use poor terminology here. A new synthetic form is being created, what I might call a new synthetic vehicle in which consciousness is to dwell, is being created via the utilization by the consciousness of these Devas of Appearance. Try to understand it this way. Why did the Soul on its own level bother with the reflection?

In coming into incarnation, the Soul could have incarnated on etheric levels. Why is there the descent into the reflection? The utilization of the Devas of Appearance is helping to create a new synthetic vehicle which will be used at a later time, by a more highly evolved consciousness as a new vehicle, a new form altogether. For instance, the etheric body of appearance or elemental does not look at all like the physical elemental. It is not the same type of form. If the Soul would come into incarnation only insofar as the etheric body itself, the body itself would be spherical without the type of form which the Deva of Appearance gives to it largely for the purpose of the exercise of sensory perception. The Deva of Appearance reflects

Devas, A Compilation, Page 6 that which is above it; the reflection takes on a totally different form than that which is the source of the reflection. The reflection does not look like that which is reflecting it.

Even though the physical elemental is not a Divine Principle, and even though the appearance is a distortion of that which is making the appearance, this form is considered to be of potential value. It is being utilized as the creation of a new vehicle, to be utilized at a higher evolved state of consciousness at a later time. This concept—as I stated before, you could not possibly comprehend now—will help nonetheless to re-impress the appearance with a cooperative attitude rather than an oppositional one. This will take a long time, insofar as you know time, and this will take a great deal of effort.

The Deva of Appearance is oppositional in yet another way, in that its own wish (if you could call it that) or desire is to maintain its status quo, to maintain itself as an entity. Therefore, it fights, rejects, and endeavors to destroy any new incoming idea which will in any way change its appearance. The status quo is impressed with the Will to Be in the first place, which creates then the appearance in opposition to that which is the desire to maintain. It is the nature of the intelligence, you might say. This is the nature of intelligence itself, to maintain itself at the status quo whatever that is. It endeavors to maintain that motion which was impressed upon it, the purpose for which it was created, so that its endeavor is to continue in that particular motion. The Deva of Appearance is very powerful in this respect. As stated, the opposition of the physical elemental, the Deva of Appearance, extends on up into the other bodies. It sets a reaction within the other bodies.

You remember I told you that the new vehicle, the synthetic vehicle of the new form, actually is being formed by these Devas of Appearance. When the physical elemental is lifted into that of the etheric, it will be in that new form, the form with which you are so familiar, the form of the human being, the form of the physical planet, the forms with which you are so familiar in the manifest universe.

You are focused within the reflected surface. When you see, you are seeing the reflections, not the . This includes the beginning of this particular planetary incarnation. It goes back to that beginning. This planet is in incarnation within this reflecting surface. This is a clue to a very deep mystery. The planet incarnated into the Devas of Appearance. The planetary consciousness, the Planetary Logos, came into incarnation within this reflecting, upon this reflecting surface within the Devas of Appearance. The Planetary Logos is in incarnation within the Devas of Appearance.

When death occurs, the consciousness withdraws itself from the Devas of Appearance into its true physical body, the etheric. From there it enters into whatever frequency is its natural habitat.

Because of the deva’s crystallizing nature, it does imprison that which incarnates within it. As that imprisoned consciousness evolves and frees itself from its prison, it is then able to utilize the Deva of Appearance for a specific purpose.

The consciousness does not actually begin consciously to build new forms until such time as it becomes free, or has freed itself from its prison and can consciously utilize the Deva of Appearance, which, remember, has created a reaction in the three frequencies above it. So the form aspect on mental, astral, and etheric levels has undergone a change as a result of consciousness being incarnate in the Deva of Appearance. Then, after freeing itself from the prison created by the Deva of Appearance, it can begin to utilize the newly created form.

It is a very simple fact that those who have passed on out of incarnation have no means of contact with the Deva of Appearance within which the consciousness itself is imprisoned. The

Devas, A Compilation, Page 7 highly evolved disciple who has established Ashramic consciousness and telepathic contact with those who function on his own level and within his range of contact, can and does. He serves a Divine Purpose in a contact with those who have gone out of incarnation.

In regard to karma, you realize that the consciousness, as it is evolving through the various stages of human evolution, becomes identified with the form nature and commits the acts which are natural to the form.

This Earth humanity has not previously incarnated into a different type of human form. However, there are those incarnate upon the planet who do come from other evolutions and are, then, in their higher consciousness, familiar with other forms.

In aligning with the devas, establish your alignment via the ajna center on an etheric level. The order is given via the throat center.

There would be training not only on the new order of devas but having to do with the control of what you might call nature devas and training which is necessary for this type of activity.

The Soul ideates, and thereby concepts are produced, meaning becomes cognizable. It is this meaning that is the form—the perfect form—and as it is brought into relationship with mental energy, it directs the building of the mental form. The consciousness does not take mental energy, for instance, and draw with it a geometric design—a form—but rather, consciousness impresses the meaning upon that mental deva. It is the deva’s job to build the form. Whatever meaning the consciousness impresses or moves into the mental deva, the deva takes that meaning and constructs the form which conveys it, or depicts it, so that the consciousness is not concerned with the geometric design. He only knows that mental energy moves in a straight line. The deva itself takes the meaning and gives it a mental form. His attention is to impress that deva with that meaning—to build the energy potential—to attract, with that meaning, that devic-life which will take the meaning and give it form. This is the activity of the consciousness. He has to hold the meaning here and let the deva do its work. He can call the deva to attention.

There are many techniques that are used, but what the consciousness is concerned with is the meaning. The deva then takes it and gives it form via his own activity. Thus, the consciousness sees a reflection of itself, of his own meaning, in form.

Consciousness is not form, but through his relationship with that devic life which is form, he does give form or build form. He sees that which he is in a different light, and by seeing that which he is in a different light, that which he is evolved or added unto—increased. By the same token, the devic life, as it receives the meaning which is consciousness, evolves; it is added unto, increased. And so the two evolutions aid one another.

Energy is not consciousness. Energy is of the Devic evolution. Consciousness and what you call energy are parallel evolutions. They cannot function without one another. Consciousness cannot function without energy, force, and substance which are three frequencies of the same thing. These are of the Devic life. They coalesce; they are attracted by consciousness. They coalesce to form, to reflect in outer appearance, that which consciousness is. They give body, give activity, and give appearance to that which consciousness is. Consciousness and energy are two different aspects of the One Life. Consciousness comes into being as a result of the interplay between that which we call Spirit and that which we call Matter. Both are in a sense Devic. Consciousness—the Son Aspect—is born out of the interplay between these two, what we might call Devic, polarities. And herein lies a very great mystery.

Do not forget that the devic life of all kingdoms in nature, in any center, serve as a part of the center personnel, a part of the center focus, and so carry the energy of that center into their

Devas, A Compilation, Page 8 particular frequency and distribute it throughout their entire kingdom. Just as the distribute energy throughout the body of humanity, so then does the plant deva within the center itself distribute the energy coming into the center throughout the plant kingdom, so do the animals throughout the animal kingdom, and the minerals throughout the mineral kingdom. This is a part of a perfect center function, and there must be a disciple, or more, in command of these devic forces.

The Master Deva of Economy

See also: The Disciple and Economy, by Lucille Cedercrans

In order to manifest any outer appearance, regardless of what it is, there must be formulated laws which govern the activity of the devas in relationship to that manifestation. This is a part of Ceremonial and it is why the Seventh Ray is defined as Ceremonial Magic or Divine Law and Order, for any organization proceeds under law. Now you are receiving a real occult secret of initiation.

What commands does the deva understand? Laws, formulated laws, are the framework given to the deva which makes it possible for him, on his own, with his own intelligence, to proceed with the building process.

For instance, you understand the mechanics in relationship to the devic activity, and I am going to repeat the mechanics so that you will be clear as to what I am referring.

The Master Deva of Economy is a deva who is, in a sense, the overlord or the deva in command of all of the lesser devas of economy which are specifically related to the group life, and also, those which can be specifically related to the group life; and this is an important point. There are many devas of economy within the environment, many devas of economy within the world of affairs, which have not yet been attracted into a relationship with the group life through lack of intelligent activity, through lack of that devic action which would have attracted them.

The Master Deva of Economy, the Commander-in-Chief, so to speak, of the economic forces of the group life (those presently within the group life and those who are potentially related to the group life), receives the focused intent of the group. That focused intent is formulated into specific stated laws.

The Master Deva receives that intent, organizes those forces under Him, and gives them their direction. So long as the intent is maintained, so long as that focused intent of the group is maintained, so long as it does not receive an attack from any part of the group consciousness (and this may come as a surprise to you—devic forces being as recipient of attack as is the consciousness), so long as the focused intent is not counteracted, or is not detracted from by any part of the group consciousness, then the Master Deva, using this focused intent as His blueprint, organizes his lower forces, sets into motion that which will out picture the focused intent.

It is the impression of the intent upon the Master Deva, the communication between consciousness and Master Deva, which is of importance, and this proceeds under law. The devic forces understand; it is their nature to understand law. If the group formulates a principle, if the group grasps, for instance, a principle of economy and formulates that principle into a law, a law which will govern the economic life and affairs of the group, or will govern one phase of it, then that law is communicated to the Master Deva.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 9 There are three basic laws of economy, if you will remember, which have been refined and clarified in the Introduction to The Disciple and Economy.

Let us take for instance, just one of these basic laws which is Right Use of that which you have. The first job, if I may use this term, for any group of this kind (as it visualizes these plans it would materialize), is to transmit to its Master Deva of Economy the first basic Law of Economy: “Right Use of all of the energy, force, and substance which is subjective and of the energy, force, and substance which is objective.” This takes in all the economic forces of the group.

So the first law to transmit to the Master Deva is that all use of these economic forces will proceed under Divine Guidance, will proceed in Divine Law and Order so that such use will be right use.

Any principle can be formulated into a law. That law is then transmitted to the Master Deva of Economy, so that every time an impression is given to the Master Deva of Economy, and is qualified in Divine Law and Order, the Master Deva knows the framework of law within which He can work. He knows it because you have transmitted that law to Him.

Every organization must (whether it is a subjective organization, an esoteric one, or an outer objective one) formulate its laws.

Because any organized activity proceeds under law, the law is the dynamic. If, for instance, you have formulated a law which will govern this group in an economic sense, which states that every individual member of the group shall have at all whatever economy is necessary to fulfill his needs, then the Master Deva of Economy works in his manifestation under that law. And this is how change takes place. This is how the disciple works, particularly the disciple working in a group. This is how the group imposes a new rhythm. This is how the group imposes change. This is how the group alters the present set of conditions and circumstances which are the outworking—which are the manifestation of karmic factors in the past. This is how the conscious group, the self-conscious group, alters those conditions, changes them, and comes into control of its devic life and affairs.

For instance, if you at this point can agree upon one basic Law of Economy (which will govern the economic forces of the group life), can formulate that law, concisely, clearly, and then communicate the law to the Master Deva, you will have taken a major step in the solution of that problem of economy which has been with you, actually, from the time you moved onto the path of discipleship.

In other words, now, as a group, you understand what you are really working with—Seventh Ray organization. Agree upon one law which is to govern the economic life and affairs of the group itself, and then, as a group, focus the intent to the Master Deva. In other words, give Him this law. Do this now, and then proceed during the next two weeks, to formulate those laws which will govern the economic life of the group. If you can do this during this period, you will have given the Devas of Economy, through the Master Deva, something with which to work. No government can function without law, and you, in a sense, are building a government.

You see, law must come before the building of the structure or the structure cannot go up. There must be law and order which governs the building of any structure.

So the task before you is to find those laws, formulate these laws which incorporate the principles that you as a group intend to manifest, to live by. After you have established this framework of law, then you can pass to your deva the picture of whatever you wish to manifest and He can work.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 10 I would also like to refer you back to the theme of this particular cycle of activity, which is Service, and to remind you that the type of work you are doing now, that which you have just completed today as a first step, is real service activity. You are establishing the coordinates within which you can function, can live, and can achieve that growth and development which is potential to you during this particular incarnation. This is real work. And it is my hope that you will be able to find the time to follow it up, complete it, so that by the next New Moon you have established a framework of law within which the devic life of your economy can proceed with its intelligent activity and the carrying out of your purpose and plan.

I would like also to remind you to use this technique not only in relationship to your economic life and affairs, but also in the building of your instrumentality. For this technique, this methodology, applies to any cooperative relationship between consciousness and devic life. The first step is the formulation of the law. The second step is the transmission of that law, via communication to the deva involved.

The devic forces are constituted of the energy, force, and substance of all things, whether the form be a tree, plant, a human being—whatever it is. Your own bodies are devas. You are related in cooperative relationship with these devas. You are consciousness; they respond to your impressions. Any attack which is focused upon a disciple must come through these devic forces. They are appropriated by the dark brother and are set into battle, so to speak, ordered into battle against you, are directed to act in opposition to you. The protection that I am giving you here is to keep those devic forces aligned with the Christ and with the forces of light working under the Christ, so that they cannot be appropriated. If at any time, there is an attempt to appropriate them, or to use them against you or the effort, you will be able to maintain your control of them.

The group has been assigned a Deva of the Violet Order. This does not mean much to you. However, this Deva will transmit, through your instruments, healing energies required by any member of the group. Please be receptive to those energies, make conscious contact with the Deva by recognizing its presence and by cooperating. Do not refuse to recognize a condition of negativity. It is necessary that you accept it and in that complete acceptance, overcome it.

Do not forget that the devic life of all kingdoms in nature, in any center, serve as a part of the center personnel, a part of the center focus. And so carry the energy of that center into their particular frequency and distribute it throughout their entire kingdom. Just as the humans distribute energy throughout the body of humanity, so then does the plant deva within the center itself so do they distribute the energy coming into the center throughout the plant kingdom, so do the animals throughout the animal kingdom, and the mineral throughout the mineral kingdom. This is a part of a perfect center function and there must be a disciple or more in command of these devic forces.

The consciousness of the overshadowing Divine Plan is the consciousness of the Christ. The Plan in its form nature, that is, in its activity aspect as form, is of the highest order of deva available to the human kingdom on this planet. It is the deva, or the order of devas, referred to as the vestures or the risen Holy Ghost Aspect. This then, is the overshadowing Divine Plan as held in focus the consciousness of Christ within the mind of Christ, that mind being the risen Holy Ghost Aspect within the Mind of Christ, the form nature, of The Divine Plan Itself.

Next, we have the focal point of consciousness which is the ashramic group life, with the etheric light body of the Planetary Logos as the form nature or the deva of the ashramic group life.

The key to contact with and control of the devas who constitute your form nature lies in this concept of the consciousness establishing itself in a focal point behind the breath. The fact is that it is the nature of the form to breathe; it is not the nature of the consciousness to breathe. Devas are controlled via the appropriation of their breath; it is the direction of their life toward the manifestation of a given purpose. The completion of the alignment, or the completion of the circuit which is the completion of the alignment can be made only via the appropriation by the consciousness of the life of the substantial forces on the lowest plane of appearance and the direction of that life back to the overshadowing source or the origin of the alignment.

You are more than a soul. You are a part of The Divine Plan in manifestation, and it is as that Divine Plan in manifestation that protective power and presence of the Christ is invoked around you. Such protection not only throws a light upon your spiritual path of endeavor both in consciousness and the outer experience which you must enter, through which you must pass, but it also screens, so to speak, those forces impacting your instrument horizontally, screening out all that would impact you which is out of harmony with your expression of The Divine Plan.

Today’s meditation will constitute an instruction as well as a meditation activity. Therefore, I am going to ask you to give special attention to it—recording as much in the brain consciousness as is possible—noting all reactions and responses.

Focus the consciousness in the cave and identify as the Conscious Soul Incarnate, linking up with your group brothers as you do so.

Merge the energies of the individual caves into one group cave and the individual consciousness, identified as Soul, into one group Soul focused within the group cave.

As consciousness standing midway between spirit and matter, contemplate the triangle—spirit, matter, and consciousness—visualizing spirit (the higher point of the triangle) as a blue-white fire, consciousness as a point of golden fire, and matter as a point of violet fire. Contemplate this triangle as three points of fire, three light giving flames”..

Gradually visualize the mergence of the three points of fire into one, until there is one point of fire. Realize that this is the Deva of Synthesis—that deva constituting the perfect equation between spirit, matter, and consciousness—whose function is that of the precipitating agent of the Divine Plan for any life with whom it is brought into contact.

Visualize the descent of the deva—the descent of the perfect fire, the perfect flame—into the outer life and affairs of this group life. See it consuming the forms of the outer life and affairs from within each form, giving to each form the life of service as it is consumed, aligning it perfectly with its higher counterpart and the purpose for which it was created, transmuting all of its opposition to the Divine Plan into active service to the Plan, and in the consummation of the form, the perfect sounding forth of its note.

Sound the OM.

As the group Soul focused within the group cave, align with the Ashramic Group Life, the three Masters who are its focal point (the Overshadowing Christ, the Planetary Logos, the Avatar of Synthesis) thereby creating within the etheric body of the planet itself on all levels of vibrating matter, a center of synthesis.

Visualize now the alignment between the Planetary Logos, the Planet of Venus, and the Logos of the Spiritual . Visualize the alignment of this solar triangle via a higher cosmic triangle with the One Life of the entire manifest cosmos.

Visualize the movement—the issuing forth from the center of the One Life—the note, the sound of His Purpose, of His Plan, within the impulse of synthesis.

Contemplate the movement down the alignment—from the center of the One Life—that perfect fire which we identify as synthesis, bringing it into a focus within the new Center of Synthesis in the etheric body of the planetary life.

Visualize, then, that point of threefold fire—the perfect flame within the very heart of the center.

Now focus the attention into the life and affairs of humanity, whose function is to work out the purpose and the plan of the Planetary Logos.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 13 Turn the attention to the field of international relationships and the group consciousness, consciously or unconsciously serving within this field. Contemplate the conditions and the problems of humanity with which this group state of consciousness is faced, and within which it must work.

Transfer from the central flame of the center itself the impulse, the spark of synthesis, lighting within the substantial forces of this aspect of human affairs, the fire—the violet flame of matter, lighting and sparking within the consciousness serving in this field the golden flame of consciousness—lighting and sparking within the very highest frequency and yet that which is the innermost frequency, the blue-white fire of the spirit.

Visualize their mergence into the fire of synthesis—the fire consuming the forms within the field of activity—manifesting, as they are consumed, the purpose for which they were created, transmuting all opposition into the active manifestation of the Divine Plan for humanity within this field of affairs, and radiating by means of the fire, the spiritual light, love, and power of the Soul of humanity throughout its life and affairs.

Sound the OM.

As a group Soul, focus the attention into that individual instrument through which you are functioning, precipitating into it the fire of synthesis, consuming the instrumentality, manifesting the manifestation of the Divine Plan as this form is related with that plan, transmuting all of its oppositions into active cooperation with the Divine Plan—specifically with the evolutionary plan of the Soul—radiating the light, love, and power of the Soul through the spiritual burning of the instrumentality into and throughout the environment and the world of which it is a part, transfiguring and transferring it into the vehicle of the Conscious Soul Incarnate.

Sound the OM.

Ashramic Projections, 202-205

Devas, A Compilation, Page 14 Teacher Training

The first teaching technique which I wish to discuss with you has to do with the projection of the lesson material itself into the consciousness of the student body. This particular technique is one of the most important you will use and should therefore be as completely understood by you as is possible.

The teacher should always spend from 10 to 15 minutes, if not longer, alone and in a meditative or contemplative state of mind just prior to his meeting with the class. Let this period of silence become a ritual during which the teacher re-dedicates the consciousness and his instrument to the service of the plan as a teacher in this particular time and place. And then let him go further in that dedication, dedicating his efforts, his energies, and the time to be spent with the class to the service of the Christ via this particular group of students. Then let him hold the consciousness of that group within his own heart (the Cave in the centre of the head), as an invocation via aspiration to the overshadowing Christ.

At the end of the silent period, just prior to meeting with the class, establish, re-establish, renew, your alignment with the three-fold source of this Thought-Form Presentation, realizing that from that source, via the ashramic group life, you are recipient of the 1st, 2nd and 7th ray energies which underlie, which give meaning, which give Divine Purpose, Divine Love, and Right Action to the concepts you will present.

As you project the lesson material for the first time, project it with the intent to impress these underlying energies upon the substantial forces of the group body itself. During the projection, do not be concerned with the intellectual understanding of the concept, but merely project the energies which underlie the concept into the substantial forces of the group body, realizing, as you do so, that you are impressing the devic life of the group with those energies, and that this will result in the right growth and development of the consciousness concerned. In other words, these devas transfer to the consciousness the concepts of truth which are contained within the lessons themselves.

When you grasp the connotations of this concept, you will understand why it has been withheld from you until this late date. You will also understand why I request that you never, under any circumstances, release such information to anyone outside this group. As did the Master Jesus during his incarnation as Jesus of Nazareth, you are working as a focus of consciousness with the devic life of the student body. Understand that all substance, all energy or substance is devic life. It is composed of groups of devas. The body, not only the physical body (for the physical bodies are not particularly important) but the etheric body, the astral bodies, and the mental bodies of your students are actually devic lives. These are devas who respond to the intent focused to them via the consciousness. The consciousness of the average student is such that he is largely unconscious of his activity. He is unconscious of the fact of these lives. He is unconscious of the fact that every formulation of thought is actually a directive to the devas who make up his substantial bodies. As a teacher, you are only permitted to focus as a consciousness, to contact this devic life with the concepts contained in the Thought-Form Presentation — never with a formulated thought that you formulate with your own mind — but only with the concepts contained within the Thought-Form Presentation. These concepts are transferred to the devic life, to the substantial forces within the student’s bodies. These forces, in turn, transmit or carry the concept of truth to the consciousness. Whenever you use this technique be very, very sure that the concept you are projecting is a clear enunciation of truth, for once that concept is projected in this manner, it will find its place within the consciousness sooner or later.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 15 The elemental is connected with the physical instrument. The devic refers to the etheric body, the astral body and the mental body. Do not align with the physical element; rather, align with the etheric. It is not even necessary that you align. Simply, just prior to the actual projection of the lesson material, establish your lower alignment with the devic life of the student body, realizing that via that devic life the energies which underlie the concepts will be transmitted to the consciousness of the group for revelation, for unfoldment within the consciousness of the group. The unique quality of this Thought-Form Presentation, or of this particular teaching, is the fact that it is unfolded from within while it is yet projected, as an intervention, from higher levels. In other words, it is a projection, it is a divine intervention into the life and affairs of humanity, yet it is projected in such a way that it is unfolded within the consciousness of the recipient rather than having to be apprehended from without. This is because it is transferred through the devic life by the teacher rather than by the student.

Normally, the student transfers the concept he receives to the devic life of his own substantial bodies and in so doing transfers his misconception or his distortions of that truth. The devic life then responds. Here, the teacher is contacting the devic life first, via a projection through the Ajna centre. The devic transfers the energy of the concept into the consciousness. The consciousness will then unfold the concept of truth, which has been projected to him, from within his own consciousness.

A concept is impressed on the devic life via an arrangement of energies. The impression of the concept of the energy upon the devic life will result in a certain type of experience according to the state of consciousness involved, for the deva responds, remember, to that which is impressed upon it. Therefore, the lessons are designed in such a way that series of crises are precipitated, coming at certain intervals in the lesson material itself. The student does experience a certain crisis, and the understanding of what is happening to him unfolds within his own consciousness as it is triggered by the teacher in a discussion of the following lessons. In other words, the experience comes, and the next lesson will clarify the experiences that everybody in the group has been having, etc.

The devic bodies of the teacher are continually responding to the energies which underlie the concepts, the same as the students, with this exception: the teacher is some little bit ahead of his student because he knows what is happening to him and is then at a somewhat higher turn of the spiral.

The devic kingdom is a parallel evolution to the human kingdom. The devic kingdom is completely dependent upon the consciousness aspect for its evolution, just as the consciousness aspect is completely dependent upon the deva for its evolution. The deva is the substantial aspect without which there is no form. The body: the astral, etheric, and the mental bodies, these are devas in their sum total. The astral body is a deva composed of many devic lives. The same is true of the etheric body and of the mental body. The energies which you receive from Me as I project this instruction to you are carried by devas. Everything that you receive is received via this devic evolution. Everything that takes form takes form in devic life or devic substance.

The consciousness is the impressing agent, the agent of the will. Only through consciousness can the will impress the deva.

The deva impresses consciousness through its action. The deva carries everything that is received by the consciousness or perceived by the consciousness, and it in turn is perceived as a result of the devic impress upon consciousness. In other words, it would be impossible for you to see the sunlight if it were not for the devic life which impresses that sunlight upon your consciousness.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 16 It is the devic life which arranges itself, assembles itself in thought so that the consciousness is enabled to perceive or to relate the idea to the world in which he lives. That’s the reason that are things.

The deva takes whatever the consciousness has given it and puts it right out there for the consciousness to see through its eyes. The deva responds to the intent as that intent is projected as energy or force into the deva.

Teacher Training, Lesson 24

Prepare for meditation please.

Without any preliminary lower alignment, focus the consciousness in the Cave in the center of the head. Identify as the Soul, focusing within the small golden sun. Radiate light and love into and through the physical instrument, into and through the physical environment, into and through the world of physical effects.

Shrink the small golden sun to the frequency of the astral body, and as the Soul radiate light and love into and through the astral vehicle, into and through the astral environment, into and through the world of astral effects.

Shrink the small golden sun to the frequency of the mental body, and as the Soul radiate light and love into and through the mental vehicle, into and through the mental environment, into and through the world of mental effects.

Shrink the small golden sun to the frequency of the causal sheath. Identify as the Soul, radiating light and love throughout the consciousness of humanity.

Shrink the small golden sun to the frequency of the ashramic group life. Identify as that life. Look downward into the group vehicle, aligning its substantial forces with the purpose and plan being focused through the ashramic group life. Sound the OM.

Keeping the lower alignment in mind, attempt to enter into the ashramic meditation. Contemplate the concept of focus, the service potential of a focused or centered consciousness. Still as the ashramic group life, establish the higher alignment with the Divine Plan as it is held in focus within the mind of the Christ, relating that focused Plan with the substantial forces of the group vehicle via the ashramic group life.

Prepare to make the descent. Expand the small golden sun to its normal frequency, anchoring the frequency of the meditation in the Cave in the center of the head via the sounding of the OM.

Relax the attention and report meditation results please.

You have done very well in bringing into your consciousness the preparatory concepts necessary to the intended projection. In other words, you have brought into your consciousness that preparation with which you were being overshadowed. For a concept, without such preparation, would have been impossible of projection. Now I request that you come together in a focal point of receptivity.

In order for the applicant to initiation to pass through the door of initiation, he must achieve that focus of consciousness which is in itself the door. In order to achieve such a focus of

Devas, A Compilation, Page 17 consciousness, he must overcome the limitation of the activity of breathing. That is, he must overcome the effects which are created or which are a by-product of the inhalation and the exhalation of the form, which has captured and imprisoned the consciousness within the form. Consider for a few moments what happens when you breathe. Become conscious of your breath, of the inhalation and the exhalation. If in meditation you are directed to focus the consciousness in the Cave, and, as the small golden sun, to radiate light and love into and through the physical vehicle, what happens to your point of focus as you radiate light and love from this point of focus into and through the physical environment, what happens to your point of focus as your radiate?

With all of the subjective work that you enter into in meditation, do you actually establish and maintain a point of focus? That consciousness which is centered in the Soul, and therefore in the group life, is conscious of this center of focus of consciousness 24 hours a day. He has freed himself from the effects of the inhalation and the exhalation of the form nature itself. It is this breath of the form which captures and holds the consciousness a prisoner to that form. The purpose of breathing exercises (which cannot be given until such time as the disciple has not only become dedicated but has arrived at such an understanding of certain basic concepts that such exercises will not be detrimental to the instrument itself), is to make possible this focusing which frees the consciousness from the form nature. The disciple uses the breathing exercises to establish a point of focus, whether that point of focus is in the Cave, the Head center or the Hierarchy, makes little difference, and from that point of focus directs the form to breathe without permitting the consciousness to flow in and out with that breath. Only in this way does the consciousness bring itself together, i.e., bring itself into a center which is free both of the environmental influence of its sphere of activity and of the prison or the influence of the form nature itself.

The pitfall is that the attention may be diverted from the point of focus to the point of radiation. More important, not only is the focus diverted, but the consciousness itself moves into the form nature rather than remaining centered where it is possible to control the form nature.

I just explained to you the purpose of breathing exercises. What is that purpose?

The student who is the applicant to initiation (and one who is not such an applicant should never receive a breathing exercise), is given a breathing exercise which brings his entire attention to bear upon breathing, which is an involuntary act of the form itself. He inhales taking so many counts to do so. Between the inhalation and the exhalation he attempts to establish an interlude in which he does not either inbreathe or out-breathe, but in which he holds the breath that has been taken in, and in so doing he is, without consciously realizing it, being taught to focus the consciousness above the breath of the form nature. He then counts the exhalation and is instructed to hold again an interlude between the exhalation and the inhalation. When he arrives at the realization, the two interludes will vanish, and the consciousness will have established a continuous, constant interlude or focus which does not permit the outflow, and therefore the imprisonment of the consciousness in the form nature. It is via this constant inhalation and exhalation that the consciousness moves into the vehicle, from the vehicle into the environment, into its sphere of activity, and within that sphere of activity within the nature of that breathing form, is imprisoned. Such imprisoned consciousness cannot direct or impress with purpose the devic life within which he lives, moves and has his being. In this concept you have been given the technique by which consciousness is able to contact and to work with the devic evolution in order to serve that plan which is held in focus within the mind of the Christ.

Your breathing exercise is: As you breathe, hold the consciousness in focus, establish that interlude which is the combination of the so-called higher and lower interlude; learn to remain back of the breath, behind the inhalation as well as behind the exhalation.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 18 Breathing exercises, counting so many counts while you inhale, holding an interlude, exhaling for so many counts, holding another interlude, are unnecessary.

When the consciousness understands that breath, the inhalation and the exhalation, is of the form nature, then that consciousness has found the key to mastery of the form. The only exercise that is necessary is to attempt to establish that focus behind the act of breathing, as you go about the constant act of breathing throughout the day. In other words, why is it necessary for you to set up a breathing exercise when you are breathing all the time? Establish that focus behind the breathing.

The old technique involving counting tends to imprison the consciousness more emphatically within the form nature, in order that the consciousness understands, via that imprisonment, what has occurred. In other words, by concentrating upon the breath, the consciousness becomes more firmly impressed in the form, to such a degree that he realizes what is holding him within the form. When he makes this realization, breathing exercises are no longer necessary for him.

You will become conscious, first, of the breath of the physical form itself. As you establish the focus of consciousness behind that physical act of breathing, which is an act of the physical form and not of the consciousness, you will gradually become conscious of the breathing that takes place on astral and mental levels, and even within the ashramic group life and even within the causal sheath. The initiation which completely frees the consciousness from such form, i.e., shatters the causal sheath, has to do with breath, that breath which is the nature of form, the nature of substance. There is a vast field of know-ledge which is wisdom, overshadowing you via this concept which has been projected. Your entry into that wisdom will be determined by your ability to receive a growing understanding; that is, to become consciously aware of the many connotations of this particular concept itself.

Do not misinterpret ‘‘focus’’ to mean an inbreathing, for that is just what it is not. The focus is that which is behind breath, whether it be an inbreathing or an out-breathing. Whatsoever breath you become conscious of is of the form nature, regardless of the frequency range in which that form might be found. It has been thought that it was the inbreathing that created the point of focus. This is a misinterpretation. The point of focus is behind the incoming breath and is behind the outgoing breath. When that focus is established in consciousness by the disciple, it is never touched by the breath. The easiest technique to apply insofar as this particular group is concerned will be that which is applied in meditation. In meditation activity, do not move with your projection. Do not go as a consciousness out into the forms that you create in meditation, but hold your focus. Remain subjective behind the objective, whether that objective be a thought, a projection of energy, or whatever. Remain subjective, do not go out with your radiation of light and love. You will be more aware of effects than you have ever been before, but you will not be caught up in the effects. You will see the intent manifesting the effect.

The consciousness, when focused, does not move. The movement of the form imprisons consciousness and because of that movement, the nature of the form controls the consciousness. The consciousness identifies as form.

The only way to establish a magnetic field of radiation is via establishing a point of focus which itself does not move but which causes, because of its very strength, all substance within its sphere to move. It is then the magnetic field of radiation attracting whatsoever outs sphere is necessary to the form, into it, via the movement of substance around the center which does not move. Therefore, the true frequency of consciousness, consciousness liberated, consciousness as such (conscious of itself as consciousness and not of or within form), does not move. It is a frequency which is so high there is no movement as such.

‘‘The breath is the nature of substance.’’

Devas, A Compilation, Page 19 This is a seed-thought given to you for your meditation. The secret of the form, the key to completely understanding the life aspect, the form, the devic evolution, lies in the seed-thought: that the breath is the nature of the form. It is the form that breathes.

Teacher Training, Lesson 25

Last week we discussed the concept of focus as being that focal point of consciousness behind the breath, and the breath itself as being of the form nature. The consciousness of the overshadowing Divine Plan, as you already know, is the consciousness of the Christ. The Plan in its form nature, that is in its activity aspect as form, is of the highest order of deva available to the human kingdom on this Planet. That is, the deva, the order of devas referred to as the vestures or the risen Holy Ghost aspect. This, then, is the overshadowing Divine Plan as held in focus, the consciousness of Christ within the mind of Christ, that mind being the risen Holy Ghost aspect, the form nature of the Divine Plan itself.

Next, we had the focal point of consciousness which is the Ashramic group life, with the etheric light body of the Planetary Logos as the form nature or the deva of the ashramic group life. The next focal point is that of the group on the physical plane of appearances, with the substantial forces of the group vehicle as its form nature. We referred to the establishment of an alignment from the overshadowing Divine Plan, which, remember, consists of the focus of Christ consciousness within the mind, the deva, the risen Holy Ghost aspect, the alignment of that with the ashramic group life, which consists of the consciousness on Hierarchical levels of those disciples within an Ashram of which you are just a part, and of the consciousness indwelling this particular group form and his substantial forces, and the closing of the circuit from the group back again to the overshadowing Christ or overshadowing Divine Plan.

Now, in order to understand exactly what takes place in a true alignment, that alignment which brings from a potential of power into an active manifestation, power itself, please attempt to follow this concept. The focus of consciousness, because it is behind the breath, is therefore enabled to appropriate or to so direct the breath of the form so as to align itself, via that breath, with whatsoever other focus in consciousness Divine Purpose dictates a relationship. The breath or movement, the light of the overshadowing Divine Plan, that is, the life of that plan, is the movement or the breath of the deva referred to previously. That breath must be brought down into, it must be breathed into the light or breath of the focal point which is the Ashramic group life, and via that focal point it must be breathed into the light or breath of the substantial matter aspect. This is an inhalation which consists of three pulses or what you might call counts, after which the exhalation brings that which had been focused downward or inbreathed back to its own source, so that throughout the alignment or the circuit the nature of the overshadowing Divine Plan is manifest within a sphere. That is, via this alignment from the overshadowing Christ through the Ashramic level down into the human level, or the group consciousness itself and its form, within that sphere is a radiation of power which manifests the nature of that which has inbreathed into the life of the lower aspects.

There can be no manifestation of either realization, that is, there can be no manifestation within either consciousness or form nature, until the circuit has been completed from source to the consciousness aspect or the Ashramic level into the substantial forces, that is on the lowest level, and back again into source. Until this triangle is complete there is no manifestation of realization or of form in any of the three levels, that is, there is no appearance.

These are one, the Christ within the Holy Ghost aspect, which is the mind. This is the plan. The consciousness of the plan is the Christ. The body of the plan or the form nature of the plan is

Devas, A Compilation, Page 20 the risen Holy Ghost aspect, which is the mind of Christ. That is the overshadowing Divine Plan. It is subjective. It is not in appearance. Now here is an ashramic group life, that is a group consciousness within the etheric light body, actually of a Master, that etheric light body being a part of the etheric light body of the Planetary Logos. Then here is another sphere, these are three spheres which is the group consciousness within its form on the physical plane of appearances. Now, here is that which is to be made manifest, the overshadowing to be made manifest. But it is on its own plane, subjective, not in appearance. Here it is in actuality, the alignment is an inhalation from here to here to here and an exhalation which takes that which has been inhaled back up to its source. And when that happens a light comes on and the total of these three are in appearance.

That which is radiatory is always magnetic. It is the radiation which is appearance, the body of appearance comes the moment the circuit has been completed between this three-fold alignment.

There is much here which overshadows which you do not grasp. But we shall proceed and if necessary come back to this concept at another date.

This is the form of any completed alignment between any (what you call two points) of consciousness, always via a triangle.

The manifestation, the real manifestation comes only after the completed alignment has been made.

The straight line does not exist.

In the true sense of the word it is a curve, but it is a triangular curve. There is also no such thing as a true circle.

I shall proceed even though there is much that you have not grasped of the preceding. I would suggest that you take all of this into very deep meditation until there is a greater understanding of the whole of this concept.

The completion of the alignment is not an automatic process which simply occurs once the alignment has been brought down into the most dense aspect of matter. The completion of the alignment must be consciously made by the focal point of consciousness through the appropriation of the breath of the form (that is via the appropriation of the life of the form in which he lives). This covers the symbology of the giving of the life, or the sacrifice of the life to the One Life which is made on every level wherever there is a focal point of consciousness in order to evolve. So that in one sense the crucifixion is a point of every initiation.

If you will remember, you were told last week that the key to contact with and control of the devas who constitute your form nature lies in this concept of the consciousness establishing itself in a focal point behind the breath. The fact that it is the nature of the form to breathe, it is not the nature of the consciousness to breathe. Devas are controlled via the appropriation of their breath, it is the direction of their life toward the manifestation of a given purpose. The alignment then, the completion of the alignment, or the completion of the circuit which is the completion of the alignment, can be made only via the appropriation, by the consciousness, of the life of the substantial forces on the lowest plane of appearance and the direction of that life back to the overshadowing source or the origin of the alignment.

Power is potential within focus. Power is in active manifestation when three focal points, related according to purpose, have been properly aligned.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 21 It is that direction of the life of the substantial form nature back to the source which results in the movement up, the so-called descent of the spirit.

We come back now to the first statement this evening. Power is potential within focus. Power is in active manifestation when three focal points related according to purpose have been properly aligned.

Teacher Training, Lesson 26

Devas, A Compilation, Page 22 Advanced Teacher Training

Let us go back to The Nature of The Soul, to lesson #23, in which there is told the story of the incarnation of the Christ, within the Soul frequencies of the lower planes. Do you recall? Each individual Soul, this point of individualization, in which the consciousness of the Christ, via each seven sub-frequencies of each ray, coming down into incarnation as streams of consciousness and yet each stream containing many particles or sparks or flames, sparks of that total consciousness. And actually, of the Father, the Logos, each individual then at this time, this was the birth of identity. The spark of logoic fire incarnated within the soular frequencies, that is, the most evolved frequencies of the mineral, vegetable and animal kingdoms. That incarnation created, became known, as it attracted its substance, as animal man. The entire process, up to this point, had been in evolution, but the point of identification has been and has remained one, if you look at it from the point of logoic intent, down. That which you are, then, has been since that point.

There are devas which ensoul each great plane within the planetary life, and from within the ensouling these devas were to continually lift the frequencies of the manifest or material, the lowest frequency of that particular plane. There is a parallel. We cannot quite call it the consciousness of the devic entities, but there is a parallel in the ensouling aspect and it is from this ensoulment of the entire plane that the seed atoms were taken to form a three-fold aggregate into which the logoic spark expressed itself. In a certain sense the logoic spark ignited these atoms. This is why the human development is not animal and the endeavor to trace the human through the animal kingdom has always failed. Because, the human entity did not come from animal development, but from ensouling life of the lower planes.

It was into a certain development or frequency that these ensouling devas of these three planes, that the spark of logoic fire was precipitated, creating, thereby, a new frequency of evolving life within the planet. At this precise time, this evolving life did not have form. It was entirely within consciousness, within the ensouling life consciousness. This ensouling life gradually drew from the substantial forces of the planes that which has created the physical, astral and mental bodies. The logoic spark was brought down, was involved according to a known plan, and the ensouling lives of these three lower planes gave a portion of themselves to create a new plane and enliven (I would call your attention to that word), a new frequency within the planetary development. At this point, then, the logoic consciousness had to move into a fourth area or of the seven planes of his total being. He had enlivened that kingdom. The entire history of humanity has been the evolution, then, the drawing of substance and experience, within the devic frequencies of these planes, so that the spark of logoic fire might redeem those forces. Thus, humanity is related to those three lower planes. Humanity is the aggregation of that which is below, as well as the point of precipitation of that which is above.

Advanced Teacher Training, Lesson 3

As the group of Masters responsible for this Thought-Form Presentation of the Wisdom, entered into their creative work, They created a group of devas. These devas carry the Wisdom. They are the vehicles, you might say (in a sense), through which that Wisdom is transmitted from its higher abstract meaning into its concrete facts and knowledge. They constitute the messengers, in a sense, of the Wisdom itself, taking that Wisdom from its natural habitat, so to speak, on the level of the Soul within the ashramic group life, carrying it to the student. This particular group of devas transmit to the devic life of the student himself and to his consciousness, the Wisdom. These are the vehicles of transmission of the concept. As the lesson is projected, as the spoken word is sounded, these devas are not created by the teacher, but are released, called into

Devas, A Compilation, Page 23 action, directed, assigned to this particular student body. When a student leaves the class he is attended by these particular devas who go with him from the class into his daily life and affairs and aid his comprehension of the Wisdom. The deva is a life. The deva is an entity. Remember that the devic evolution is an evolution parallel to that of consciousness. It is the evolution of energy, force and substance, the evolution of intelligence itself, as the negative polarity of spirit.

If you will think again of the basic triangle of manifestation. There is the positive and negative pole of matter itself, spirit and matter, any matter, positive and negative pole. You remember in this first lesson the positive pole and the negative pole are the highest and the lowest, so to speak, frequencies of one energy. Spirit is matter vibrating at its highest frequency and matter is spirit vibrating at its lowest frequency. Now within the magnetic field created by these two frequencies of one energy, consciousness is born. That consciousness is differentiated from spirit and matter. It is an evolution of itself. The evolution of consciousness, of soul, the magnetic field between spirit and matter. Spirit and matter being the positive and negative poles of one energy, that one energy is the devic evolution from its highest aspect to its lowest aspect, spirit to matter. Now, those devas with which you come into contact are the devas which exist from the level of the conscious soul, the Overshadowing Soul within the ashramic group life, to your own focus within the instrument. These are the frequencies of matter with which you are in contact and these are the devas that we refer to when we speak of devic forces insofar as you are concerned. This evolution of devic life continues on up, clear up to its highest aspect, which is spirit.

Now, your bodies are made up of these three frequencies of matter, which we define as mental, astral and etheric. They constitute within themselves devas, the mental body is a deva, you understand, with which consciousness, your consciousness is specifically related.

The astral body is another deva with which you are specifically related. The etheric body another one with which you are specifically related. Now, those bodies, these three devas are evolving, just as you are evolving. But theirs is the evolution of intelligence, the evolution of the negative polarity of the one energy.

Yours is the evolution of consciousness. It is via the cooperative relationship between you and your devas that the growth of both is achieved. It is your ability to impress upon your devas that which you are in consciousness and through them to express it and their ability to receive that impression and to carry it out into expression and to reflect it, to depict it to you, the consciousness.

It evolves the consciousness and the devas. So that these are a paralleled evolution, very closely related. Now, within the ashramic group life there are those devas which are made up of the frequencies of matter with which the consciousness, at that level, is specifically related. This being the midway point between the lowest pole (the negative pole) and the positive. This being that point where spirit and matter are merging together.

Now here these devas are of a much higher evolution than those of the instrument itself. Each member of the Hierarchy, from the senior disciple, the focal point of an ashram, to the soul on the periphery of the ashram, has under his jurisdiction certain groups of devas. These are his to direct into activity and again according to his impression upon them and their ability to carry that impression into outer expression - both of them evolve, the consciousness and the deva.

Now, the triangle of Masters responsible for the creation of the matter of this Thought-Form Presentation of The Wisdom, took, selected from those devic lives within their jurisdiction a certain group of devas to act as the messengers of the Wisdom between the Ashram and the student body of The Wisdom. The Master M., the Master D.K. and Myself, Master R., impressed upon this group of devas this intent. The three impressed upon them this intent to carry the

Devas, A Compilation, Page 24 Wisdom as messengers to the student body.

They impressed also upon them the direction to enter into action in response to the Teacher of The Wisdom, who is given in the very fact that he is a Teacher, the right to direct these devas and release them, to call into activity, these devas.

Now, the method by which they are called into activity is that of the spoken word. The lesson material was written in such a way as to be mantric in nature. A mantra is certain sounds, in relationship to one another, which when sounded, when spoken, direct the devas into their particular activity. So that the lesson material in its mantric nature is the sound which calls these devas to carry the Wisdom into their specific activity. The particular words that are used direct the devas in their particular and specific activity, so that one deva, for instance, is carrying the Wisdom as it relates to the will aspect. Another deva will be carrying the Wisdom as it relates to the love aspect, another as it relates to the intelligent activity aspect. Another deva or group of devas will be carrying the concept as they relate to meditation, and so on. The words themselves direct the devas specifically, and the sounding of the words call them into their activity so that they are actually directed by the teacher.

Consciousness and deva are interdependent, but they are each one something in itself, a life in itself.

Advanced Teacher Training, Lesson 16a

Now in some ways this is the most difficult of all steps to clarify and explain. For we have to deal here with the principle of the etheric body and its relationship to and within the physical instrument itself. Therefore before we go into the substantiating activity of the etheric body I am going to discuss the physical body and its place in the entire process. You understand that the physical body is not a principle - it is an obstacle to the manifestation of Truth. It is an obstacle, an opposition, to the manifestation of any true Soul ideation. You may be able to keep the idea clean, pure, unadulterated as you bring it down through the mental activity, down through the astral activity and the etheric. But the moment it begins to relate with the physical plane of appearances it is immediately confronted with opposition of a very powerful nature. Your own physical instruments which from now on I am going to refer to as the physical elemental and I would have you learn to utilize this term and to come to understand its meaning. The moment the soul ideation begins to come into relationship with the physical elemental, your own, it is presented with its first major opposition. The opposition on mental levels and astral levels you can handle much more easily than the physical elemental.

Now, why is this? The disciple in the world today has much to learn about the physical elemental and about its nature. In the first place, we have stated many times, and it has been known for many, many centuries, that this physical elemental is not a principle. It is not a Divine Principle. This very impression made upon it by the combined thinking of Disciples down through the ages has helped to create much of the opposition which is presented to the White Magician. Therefore, let us come to understand what we mean when we say that this physical elemental is not a Divine Principle. For the natural, the automatic interpretation which has resulted from this statement, and it is a statement of Truth, carries the connotation that if it is not a Divine Principle then it must be evil. Evil in its very nature. This is a falsity. The physical elemental, (and try to at least become open and receptive so that as we proceed your understanding of this can grow beyond the misinterpretation that has been given), the physical elemental is first a deva of appearance. It is of appearance within a sub-frequency of what I shall call at this particular time for your understanding, the etheric itself. The physical elemental is a deva of appearance within a sub-frequency of etheric substance. Therefore, while it is not

Devas, A Compilation, Page 25 itself a principle, it is derived from a principle. It is not the principle itself; but it is a derivation of a principle.

You see, one of the greatest difficulties with which we are presented in endeavoring to clarify this subject has to do with the fact that that which you think of as the physical plane, within which the devas of appearance are reflected, is a reflecting surface - a reflecting surface - upon which the seven principles of matter are reflected into an appearance. Consider, for instance, a frequency, a major tone being sounded. This tone is constituted within itself of seven frequencies. These seven frequencies being defined as seven principles of that particular tone or sound. The sum total plus the seven principles within it causes to appear below itself what we can only refer to as a reflecting surface. They are not really, in one sense of the word, sub- tones; they are a reflection. This down here is a reflection of the sum total plus its seven principles. Alright, consider the etheric; this is the matter aspect. It is the matter aspect in relationship to Spirit, the positive pole. It has within it seven major notes or principles. What you know as the etheric is the seventh of the Divine Principles of substance or matter.

Then below this, below the seventh frequency or sub-tone, is the physical plane of appearances; a reflecting surface which reflects that which comes into appearance within this seventh frequency of the matter aspect.

They are all physical in a sense. These are seven principles of matter. And ethers. The etheric body that we contact is this seventh principle of etheric substance. Now below that is like a sounding board. It is like a reflecting surface that is called the physical plane. Think of the physical plane with no appearances -- no mountains, no trees, no planets, no nothing, a plane, a frequency that is moving across the seventh principle. The frequency of matter itself has created below itself a reflecting surface. Then upon that reflecting surface, which is also sometimes called the periphery of manifestation is the physical plane of appearances. Then upon this reflecting surface, or periphery of manifestation, are the appearances of those forms which are existent within the seven principles - and particularly this seventh principle of substance. Now because there is a reflection and because there is a Divine Purpose underlying that reflection, the etheric body of any particular form has extended itself into and crystallized the appearance into what you identify as a solid form. So that in a sense the physical might be likened to a crust, an outer covering, an outer crust or shell of the true physical etheric form or the true substantial form. Now the secret in sense perception lies in this particular area and in a sense it has been the development of sensory perception which has created and crystallized this almost new frequency of substance, which you call the physical. Which has, we might say, crystallized the deva of appearance into the solid form which it is.

Now to go back to our former statement, that it is the physical elemental which presents the incoming idea with its greatest opposition. Remember, again, the concept of our misinterpretation of the fact that the deva of appearance, the physical form is not a Divine Principle - to indicate that it is evil. This impressed upon the deva of appearance the intent to oppose anything which is Divine. The hatred and the resentment which the revolving consciousness has in its misinterpretation to direct the physical elemental, has added to this intent to oppose that which is Divine. So that in a sense the astral body of the deva appearance itself then is oppositional. It is that part of the astral body (we are getting into very deep water here in a sense) which is directly related to the physical elemental and which constitutes, later on, a part of the dweller on the threshold. I am projecting this in order for you to understand the oppositional nature of the physical elemental. That opposition is both physical and astral and it becomes mental. It creates an opposition in that part of the astral body that is directly related with the physical elemental, and it creates an opposition in that part of the mental body which is directly related. In other words, the brain-mind, that part of the mental body becomes oppositional to the idea. The emotional nature of the individual (not the astral body as such) but his own inner emotional nature becomes oppositional. Or you might say the emotional content

Devas, A Compilation, Page 26 of the physical elemental is oppositional to the incoming idea because this is the reaction that is the action, you might say, that the physical elemental has upon the other bodies.

Now there is another point to be brought out here regarding the type of opposition which the physical elemental presents; and this is most difficult. I am going to have to present you with a concept which will be beyond your comprehension at this time. Therefore I am going to ask you please to not dig into it now, only understand the connotation that it brings to bear upon this concept of opposition.

In a sense (and I am forced to use poor terminology here), a new synthetic form is being created. What I might call a new synthetic vehicle in which consciousness is to dwell is being created via the utilization by the consciousness of these devas of appearance. Now try to understand it this way. Why did the Soul on its own level bother with the reflection? For instance, in coming into incarnation the Soul could have incarnated on etheric levels. Why is there the descent into the reflection? The utilization of the devas of appearance is helping to create a new synthetic vehicle which will be used at a later time by a more highly evolved consciousness as a new vehicle, a new form altogether. For instance the etheric body of appearance or elemental does not look at all like it does with the physical elemental. It is not the same type of form. If the Soul then would come into incarnation only in so far as the etheric body itself is concerned, the body itself would be spherical without the type of form which the deva of appearance gives to it, largely for the purpose of the exercise of sensory perception. In other words the deva of appearance (and it reflects that which is above it) the reflection takes on a totally different form than that which is the source of the reflection. In other words, the reflection doesn't look like that which is reflecting it.

Now even though the physical elemental is not a Divine Principle, and even though the appearance is a distortion of that which is making the appearance, this form is seen to be, (considered to be) of potential value. And it is being utilized as the creation of a new vehicle to be utilized by a higher evolved state of consciousness at a later time. Now this concept, which I stated before, you could not possibly comprehend now - will help, nonetheless, to reimpress the appearance with a cooperative attitude rather than an oppositional one. This will take a long time in so far as you know time and this will take a great deal of effort.

Now the deva of appearance is oppositional in yet another way, in that its own wish, if you could call it that, or desire, is to maintain its status quo - to maintain itself as an entity. Therefore it fights, rejects and endeavors to destroy any new incoming idea which will in any way change its appearance.

The will-to-be produces change.

To maintain is a little different than the Will-To-Be.

The status quo is impressed with the Will-To-Be in the first place, which creates then the appearance, then in opposition to that is the desire to maintain. It is the nature of the intelligence, you might say. This is the nature of intelligence itself - to maintain itself at the status quo, whatever that is.

You will receive further instruction as to how to meet this opposition.

The intent is set into motion and it endeavors to maintain that motion which was impressed upon it; the purpose for which it was created. So that its endeavor is to continue in that particular motion. The deva of appearance is very powerful in this respect.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 27 I stated that the opposition of the physical elemental, the deva of appearance, extends on up into the other bodies. It sets up a reaction within the other bodies.

It is the light in the physical sense that is the reflecting surface of which I am speaking. Remember I told you that the new vehicle, the synthetic vehicle of a new form actually is being formed by these devas of appearance. When the physical elemental is lifted into that of the etheric it will be in that new form. The form which you are so familiar, the form of the human being; the form of the physical planet; the forms with which you are so familiar are new in the manifest universe.

You are focussed within the reflected surface. Where you see, you are seeing the reflections, not the reality.

It includes the beginning of this particular planetary incarnation. It goes back to that beginning. In other words this planet is in incarnation within this reflecting surface.

The physical elemental is not a Divine Principle. But this does not mean that it is evil. From time to time there will be some reference to this projection and some expansion of the concepts projected this afternoon. It is necessary for you to learn to control the outer world of appearance. Advanced Teacher Training, Lesson 17b

It is activities of the physical body again that are reflections of the activity of the etheric, but in a distorted form, a distorted picture of that activity.

Remember what I say now, because this is a clue to a very deep occult mystery. The planet incarnated into the devas of appearances. The planetary consciousness, the Planetary Logos, came into incarnation within this reflecting; upon this reflecting surface within the devas of appearance.

It is the which provides this differentiation or division.

Appearance of division.

Yes, the Planetary Logos is in incarnation within the devas of appearance.

The consciousness withdraws itself from the devas of appearance, into its true physical body, the etheric. And from there enters whatever frequency is its natural habitat.

Because of its crystallizing nature it does imprison that which incarnates within it. And as that imprisoned consciousness evolves and frees itself from its prison, it is then able to utilize the deva of appearance for a specific purpose.

It does not actually begin consciously to build new forms until such time as it becomes free. Or has freed itself from its prison and can consciously utilize the deva of appearance. Which, remember, has created a reaction in the three frequencies above it. So that the form aspect on mental, astral and etheric levels has undergone a change as a result of consciousness being incarnate in the deva of appearance. Then after freeing itself from that prison created by the deva of appearance it can begin to utilize the newly created form.

It is the very simple fact that those that have passed on out of incarnation have no means of contact with the deva of appearance within which the consciousness itself is imprisoned.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 28 The highly evolved disciple who has established ashramic consciousness and telepathic contact with those souls who function on his own level and within his range of contact; can and does. He serves a Divine Purpose into a contact with those who have gone out of incarnation.

You realize that the consciousness as it is evolving through the various stages of human evolution, becomes identified with the form nature and commits the acts which are natural to the form, so to speak. …

Now this that I have explained to you is a subjective activity which you enter into in the third stage of the internalization process. At the same time now you will be presented with the opposition with the deva of appearance - the physical elemental. And we'll have to take this into account and enter into, then, a physical activity which corresponds with what is taking place in the etheric in order to bring the form into its appearance instead of being destroyed or stillborn.

Then this is the objective part of the internalizing process. You choose a physical activity which is aligned with the purpose and goal with which you are creating which corresponds to the activity of that form. Let us say you have planned a creative service activity which is dependent upon many factors in its physical manifestation.

You have brought this planned service activity this far into manifestation. You have been able to come through the mental body, you have been able to come through the field of astral force and have been able to build a magnetic field of force for the manifestation of your planned service activity. You have brought it down into the etheric and have actually given it a substantial body of appearance, a substantial form which now has to reflect itself on this reflecting surface. It has to become a deva of appearance. A place has to be made for it within the physical plane of appearances. You make that place for it and you choose a corresponding physical activity - an activity which is aligned with the purpose and goal with your planned service and which corresponds in some way to the perfection of the activity of that planned service. Thus you are making a place in the physical appearance of your newly created form within the world of appearances.

Let us say you are in meditation. Carry out this visualization process. Do not stop there, continue with your visualization and enter into a physical activity which is appropriate, which corresponds to the purpose and the goal of the created form - which makes a place for its appearance so that your own physical elemental is not opposing; is not permitted to oppose that which you are attempting to do.

Remember it must be aligned with the Divine purpose and goal of your planned activity and be in correspondence to it. And in this very statement itself there is much development of discrimination necessary. Because it is the activity which you are engaged in, even though you are entering into it for the purpose of bringing your form into appearance. If it does not correspond to the activity of your newly created form, it cannot possibly make an appearance here of that form. It is in opposition. In other words a man may go out and steal in order to provide himself with materials which are needed in order to manifest his planned service. His activity would not be in correspondence to that which he is attempting to bring into manifestation.

The activity must correspond, and in the truest sense of the word. He engenders karma, most definitely. You do not create, in this stage of the evolutionary process, a deva of appearance, without engendering karma.

Yes, it can be good karma. It certainly is, if you are working with a service motivation. It will be service karma, but it will be karmic in that it will bring you back into incarnation.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 29 Eventually, when you achieve mastery of the form nature, you will build that perfect form which is Cause and Effect in itself and which then is not generative of karmic consequences.

Advanced Teacher Training, Lesson 17c

When the disciple aligns with the center where the Will of God is known, an alignment is made with the Hierarchy. When the disciple aligns with ‘the point of Love within the Heart of God' an alignment is made with the higher order of Devas, comparable on their level to the Hierarchy and one aligned with the point of Light within the mind of God.

Advanced Teacher Training, Lesson 22

Keeping up with someone else is simply one of the out-picturings of this motivational drive. You realize that intelligent substance knows that it is not what it pretends to be. Matter itself knows what its purpose is. It is so perfectly constructed; remember, its purpose is to define via form whatsoever the consciousness impresses on it, and it knows that this is its purpose. But at the same time, there is born within the life of any form, because of the fact of the impression of the will-to-be upon that matter, there is born within the mind of any form the motive to persist. Now this has to be, else form could not withstand the pressures which are placed upon it. It must persist, it must continue, it must survive. Therefore, it automatically fights, opposes, anything which would destroy its at any moment. It provides the resistance to consciousness which makes evolution possible. And all along the line, throughout the entire path of evolution, this is what consciousness has to overcome, this motive for survival which is born in matter itself in order that it can perform its function.

Now the substance, the devic life itself, has no desire (if I may use this term) to fight the overshadowing soul, no desire to oppose the overshadowing soul or Divine Purpose. It must do so because this is its nature, its purpose in the scheme of things. But remember, the devic life is not the evolution of consciousness, it is not consciousness as you think of consciousness, it is intelligence. This is the difference between consciousness and substance, consciousness and form, consciousness and persona. Matter is intelligent, it arranges itself in patterns according to that which is impressed upon it. It defines, depicts, its form to whatever is impressed upon it. Of itself it has no consciousness. Now when you, if any of you have or have not a clairvoyant glimpse of a deva, when you see such a deva and you give to it the qualities of love, of sympathy, of resentment, etc., you are incorrect in your interpretation, for the deva has no such consciousness or qualities. The quality, the characteristic, of substance is intelligence.

Try to grasp this, to realize this difference between intelligence and consciousness. Intelligence has no such thing as values, it is not conscious, it does not have awareness. It is intelligence, it is thought itself, if you wish to put it that way. It has assembled itself to depict and define that which is impressed upon it, to give form, that is all. Try to grasp as completely and clearly as possible this concept because it is vitally important. Realize that the devas do not possess the qualities that you attempt to give them.

It is the intelligence aspect. The consciousness becomes imprisoned within that and identified with it and then takes on all of the limitations of that form. …

The intelligence provides the consciousness with what appears as a substantial solid form, a tangible; and the consciousness becoming imprisoned within this form, loses first of all the realization that he is the master of this substance, that he is its creator in actuality. Now it was by his shaping of that substance that a form was created in the first place. And that substance is always fluidic, regardless of its outer appearance it is always, always fluidic, even though its

Devas, A Compilation, Page 30 motive is survival, even though it must make every effort to resist change in order to maintain its substantial aspect, it is nonetheless fluidic. It responds to the will of the consciousness, and this is all it can do, this is its nature, this is its purpose and its function. It can do nothing else. So regardless of the resistance which it offers, it must conform, give form, to the will of the consciousness whatever that will might be. This is the first recognition that has to be made in order for the consciousness to come into command, conscious control, of his devic lives. First he must realize that his devic life is not consciousness, it has no values, no morals, no ethics, none whatsoever. Secondly, it is fluidic. It constitutes the material out of which the consciousness creates whatever form it wishes to appear in.

Now naturally, having established some identification as soul, and having become in fact to a certain degree, the conscious soul incarnate, naturally one of the first concerns is to establish environmental control, control of your life and affairs. There is a vague recognition and realization by the consciousness that it must control devas in order to do this. What it fails to recognize is that it must first establish its control of those devas who are the most closely related to it, the devas of its own form. How can it possibly control the devic life that is not in such a close relationship if it cannot control the devas of its own instrument? The devas of the instrument are in intelligent contact and communication with the devas of the environment, of the sphere of influence. The soul can only work through the devic life of its own instrumentality. It cannot supersede that instrumentality to work directly through a deva over here, it must work through the devas of its own instrumentality. Now if it has not controlled those devas, if it has not established its moment-by-moment command of those devas, then they do not respond to a moment-by-moment impress. They do not carry the message, the communication, from soul to environment if they are not under the command of the incarnate consciousness. That is each aspect, each particle of that substance. So long, for instance, that the consciousness remains identified with his desire to eat, to sleep, the likes and the dislikes — now these likes and dislikes are not truly the likes and dislikes of the form. Grasp the difference. These are the limitations which that form imposed upon the consciousness. Consciousness is impressing that will upon these devas so that they respond.

You have to abstract from the forms which you have created, for instance, likes and dislikes, these are forms, they are not characteristics of the form. The persona does not truly like this or like that, but the consciousness within the form created out of the intelligent substance of the form, a form which is a like or a dislike.

The consciousness likes comfort because it is the value which consciousness itself has made in its imprisonment within the form, because of its imprisonment within the persona identification. Because it has become imprisoned within that form.

Do not forget consciousness lost its identification, lost the realization of what it was, it became imprisoned first within the substance, the intelligent substance of its three bodies.

So it evaluates within this instrumentality, and remember it is limited to the limitations of that form.

It requires a comfort. The comfort itself being only another form.

Do not forget what we said about the motivation of the imprisoned consciousness. The motivation of the form is to subsist, to exist. Its purpose and its function is to depict and define so that naturally there must be built into its nature a resistance to anything that would interfere with that defining and depicting process. It could not establish a substantial form if it went down in the face of everything in passing upon that form.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 31 The consciousness indwells that form, these three bodies, it becomes identified with them and takes on the limitations of that form. The motive of the form is survival. Consciousness always adds to the form, consciousness evaluates, consciousness lends quality and so on. Therefore the survival of the imprisoned consciousness is not only to survive, but to survive at an ever- increasing, or higher degree of survival. Comfort becomes a part of that survival. To survive not just the elements, but comfortably.

It is the resistance provided by the form, by intelligent substance, that makes evolution possible. All of this is good, none of this is bad, it's all good.

To get to the moon is a part of the survival, and always at a higher degree, motivation of survival.

Now what the conscious soul incarnate has to do then is to rebuild, reshape, re-mould, the intelligent substance of his body into a new form, free of the limitations which he has imposed upon it over this long period and process of evolution, realizing that his instrument, the intelligent substance is fluidic. He must create out of that fluidic substance the vehicle which will provide him with as perfect a service instrument as is possible. And he does this first as that small replica, that image, that goal, that ideal is created as the pattern within the cave, then he makes the intelligent substance of his substance conform to that pattern via soul-imposed discipline. That brings the will of the instrument under control so that it will reflect this pattern rather than the former one.

The more clearly he realizes and clarifies, envisions, this idea, this goal, this pattern that he is building, then the easier his task will be.

The pairs of opposites have their way with him, yes, because actually there is that dweller within the form which is still identified with the form and therefore does resist the effort that he as the conscious soul incarnate is making. But again this is a part of the evolutionary process.

If you could but see your bodies as they are, rather than the outer appearance of them. If you could but see each field of energy which constitutes the devic life that is the mental body, the devic life that is the astral body, the devic life that is the etheric body. You would see them as fields of energy, moving in relationship to one another, according to the patterns which you have impressed upon them.

The outer form is merely a focus, the outer appearance of the three vehicles, of the three bodies plus the consciousness that indwells them. The bodies themselves are ovoid in shape, they are fields of moving energy, which move according to patterns that have been impressed upon them, and each is a devic life in itself, and each has at its command the lesser lives or lesser devas which make up its sum total.

There is an etheric network which connects all these devas. The etheric interpenetrates. The deva doesn't have consciousness itself, no consciousness whatsoever.

Dis-ease is not natural to the form or to intelligence. This is imposed upon it by the consciousness.

You have to get a nearly perfect body then before the overshadowing comes in and takes full command, approximately the third or the fourth incarnation, depending upon the evolutionary development of the group. Approximately the third or fourth incarnation, the soul, when it comes in, comes into a perfected vehicle. Three incarnations, this is the cycle.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 32 As much as you can establish within the instrument this time, this is what you will come into in the next incarnation. And of course, according to this will determine the environment into which you will be born.

Advanced Teacher Training, Lesson 23a

Focus the consciousness in the cave and identify as soul. Link up within the overall group life, with all of its members, to form a center of spiritual light, divine love-wisdom and spiritual power focused into the etheric body of humanity. Via the head center align the group life with the ashramic center and the overshadowing Christ becoming receptive to Divine Purpose as held in focus by the Christ. Invoke that Divine Purpose into the life and affairs of the incarnate group, and sound the OM in salutation to the Christ.

Via the ajna center align with the consciousness of humanity in its many levels of development, contemplating that consciousness as the spiritual son of God imprisoned within matter. Let the inner sight and the alignment move through the outer appearance, the faults and virtues of the persona, to the inner consciousness of humanity, recognizing that consciousness as the spiritual son of God imprisoned within matter. Contemplate the evolution which lifts the imprisoned son up out of the confines of the form nature and yet which gives him control of that form nature. As the conscious soul incarnate in love and understanding, sound the OM in salutation to the imprisoned son.

Via the throat center align with the substantial forces, the mental energy, the astral force, the etheric substance of the group instrumentality, recognizing the three environments within which this energy, force and substance is active: the mental environment, the astral environment and the etheric environment. In recognition of this energy, force and substance as the group economy, place it within the economy of the One Life and from within that place align it directly with that Divine Purpose which is held in focus by your ashramic center.

Now visualize the alignment between Divine Purpose as held in focus by the ashramic center and the group economy within its place in the economy of the One Life as producing a vast magnetic field within which the life and affairs of the group membership are guided, aided and protected in the working out of the Divine Plan for humanity. Sound the OM.

Now let each link up with the membership of his own group unit, forming the three major of the group life: a head center, a heart center and a throat center. The head center bringing Divine Purpose into focus, stepping this down into spiritual purpose; the heart center bringing Divine Love-Wisdom into focus; the throat center bringing Divine Law and Order, stepping it down into spiritual light, into focus. Visualize the circulation of these energies - Divine Purpose, Divine Love-Wisdom, Divine Law and Order, throughout the triangle of centers at that speed which blends them into that perfect synthesis, the synthesis which is in itself the precipitating agent for the Divine Plan for humanity in its specific relationship (clockwise movement of the energies).

Now visualize a new order of devas being created by the synthesis of energies, standing within the etheric environment of the group, awaiting group command. Sound the OM in recognition of them. Now contemplate (still in alignment within the Order of Devas) the instruction the group is receiving to establish a group headquarters constituted of head, heart and throat center energies somewhere in the central United States, recognizing a direct alignment with the synthetic deva with the overshadowing Christ, transfer to the devas via mantric release the following order:

Devas, A Compilation, Page 33 Let there manifest a Divine Law and Order — a complete Divine Adjustment in right place and right activity to the manifesting Divine Plan for Humanity of this Group Life. Sound the OM into the new order of Devas.

Re-establish the focus in the cave as the conscious soul incarnate. Make your own individual alignment with the synthetic devas, becoming receptive to whatever right opportunities are presented to you. Sound the OM.

Gradually relax attention. Return to the normal focus and report briefly reactions and responses please.

Aligning with the devas establishes your alignment via the ajna center on an etheric level. The order is given via the throat center.

Advanced Teacher Training, Lesson 27

Devas, A Compilation, Page 34 A Treatise on Cosmic Fire

In order to apprehend even cursorily the identity of manifestation of a planetary Logos in a root- race, for instance, it must be remembered that the sumtotal of human and deva units upon a planet make the body vital of a planetary Logos, whilst the sumtotal of lesser lives upon a planet (from the material bodies of men or devas down to the other kingdoms of nature) form His body corporeal, and are divisible into two types of such lives:

a. Those on the evolutionary arc, such as in the animal kingdom.

b. Those on the involutionary arc, such as the totality of all elemental material forms within His sphere of influence. All the involutionary lives, as earlier pointed out, form the vehicles for the spirit of the planet, or the planetary entity, who is the sumtotal of the elemental essences in process of involution. He holds a position (in relation to a Heavenly Man) analogous to that held by the different that go to the make-up of man's three bodies, physical, astral and mental, and he is—like all manifesting beings —threefold in his nature, but involutionary. Therefore, man and devas (differentiating the devas from the lesser Builders) form the SOUL of a Heavenly Man. Other lives form his BODY, and it is with body and soul that we are concerned in these two divisions of our thesis on FIRE. One group manifests the fire of matter, the other group the fire of mind, for the devas are the personification of the active universal mind, even though man is considered manasic in a different sense. Man bridges in essence; the devas bridge in matter.

A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 301-302

This Ray of Ceremonial Magic will consequently have a very profound effect upon the physical plane, for not only is this plane coming under its cyclic force but at all times its planetary Logos has a special effect upon it; the Raja-Lord of this plane is what is occultly termed the "Reflection in the Water of Chaos" of the planetary Logos. Hence in the matter of this plane (which is the body of the Raja-Lord) certain very definite events are occurring which—though invisible to the ordinary man—are apparent to the eye of the spiritual man or adept.

The matter of the plane becomes receptive to positive force for the feminine or deva aspect, being negative, becomes responsive to the positive energy of the Heavenly Man. This energy, finding the line of least resistance, pours into the substance of the plane, or the substantial body of the Deva Lords. Owing to the receptive condition of this body it follows certain lines and produces definitely constructive results.

Constructive results transpire in the negative etheric matter of the plane and on the four higher subplanes. On the lower three a contrary effect is produced, and the energy of the Heavenly Man will lead to the destruction of form, preparatory to the building work. The building ever originates on, and proceeds from, etheric levels. Cataclysms of a world wide nature will occur during the next one thousand years; continents will be shaken; lands will be raised and submerged, culminating in the profound material disaster which will overtake the world towards the close of the fourth branch race of the sixth subrace. This will usher in the infant sixth rootrace.

The devas of the ethers, with which we are most concerned, will be affected in several ways, and the results upon the other evolutions will be far-reaching. We must remember always that the devas are the qualities and attributes of matter, the active builders, who work consciously or

Devas, A Compilation, Page 35 unconsciously upon the plane. Here I would point out that all the devas of the higher levels of the mental plane, for instance, and of the systemic planes from there on to the centre (the , the plane of the Logos, sometimes called ) co-operate consciously, and are of high rank in the system, and of position equal to all the ranks and grades of the Hierarchy from a first degree initiate up to, but not including, the Lord of the World Himself. Below these higher levels, where the concrete is touched, we have lesser grades of devas who work unconsciously, with the following exceptions, who are conscious forces and entities and of high position:

a. The Raja-lord of a plane.

b. Seven devas who work under Him, and are the entities who inform the matter of the seven subplanes.

c. Fourteen representatives of the Rays, Who cycle into and out of power, according to the Ray, waxing or waning.

d. Four devas who are the plane representatives of the four Maharajahs (the Lords of Karma) and are the focal points for karmic influence in connection with man. The four Maharajahs are the dispensers of karma to the Heavenly Men, and thus to the cells, centres, and organs of His body necessarily; but the whole system works through graded representatives; the same laws govern these agents of plane karma as govern the systemic and cosmic, and during plane manifestation they are, for instance, the only unit in form permitted to pass beyond the plane ring-pass-not. All other units in manifestation on a plane have to discard the vehicle through which they function before they can pass on to subtler levels.

A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 467-469

2. THE FIRE DEVAS THE GREATER BUILDERS.

I have divided the groups of devas and elementals into evolutionary and involutionary Builders —those who are in themselves positive force, and those which are negative force, the conscious and the blind workers. It is absolutely essential that students bear in mind here that we are studying the mystery of electricity and therefore must remember the following facts:—

A. INTRODUCTORY REMARKS.

The Mystery of Electricity. The greater Builders are the positive aspect of substance or of electrical phenomena whilst the lesser Builders are the negative aspect.

Two types of force are represented in the activities of these two groups and it is their interaction and interplay which produces Light, or the manifested solar system.

Their sumtotal is substance in its totality, the intelligent active form, built for the purpose of providing a habitation for a central subjective life.

They are also the sumtotal of the Pitris, or Fathers of mankind, viewing mankind as the race itself, the fourth kingdom in nature, the Heavenly Men in physical manifestation. This is a most important point to emphasise. These deva activities in relation to Self-Consciousness (which is the distinctive characteristic of humanity) can best be studied in the large, or through the consideration of groups, of races, and of the life of the scheme, the manifestation of one of the Heavenly Men. When the student brings his study of deva work down to the terms of his own individual life he is apt to become confused through too close a juxtaposition.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 36 The Lunar Pitris. "The great Chohans called the Lords of the Moon, of the airy bodies: "Bring forth Men," they were told, "men of your nature. Give them their forms within. She (Mother Earth) will build coverings without (for external bodies). Males—females will they be. Lords of the Flame also....They went each on his allotted lands: Seven of them each on his lot. The Lords of the Flame remained behind. They would not go. They would not create."—Stanza III, 12, 13, S.D., II, 79, 81.

The greater Builders are the solar Pitris, whilst the lesser Builders are the lunar ancestors. I would here explain the occult meaning of the word "ancestor," as used in esotericism. It means literally initiatory life impulse. It is that subjective activity which produces , and concerns those emanatory impulses which come from any positive centre of force, and which sweep the negative aspect into the line of that force, and thus produce a form of some kind. The word "ancestor" is used in connection with both aspects.

The solar Logos is the initiatory impulse or Father of the Son in His physical incarnation, a solar system. He is the sumtotal of the Pitris, in the process of providing form. The union of Father (positive force) and Mother (negative force) produces that central blaze which we call the form, the body of manifestation of the Son. A Heavenly Man holds an analogous position in relation to a planetary scheme. He is the central germ of positive life or force, which, in due course of time, demonstrates as a planetary scheme, or an incarnation of the planetary Logos. A man similarly is the positive life or energy which, through action on negative force, creates bodies of manifestation through which he can shine or radiate.

The Lunar Pitris created the physical man.—S.D., I, 114, 197. They exist in three great classes. 1. The most developed. They form, in one, the sumtotal of the three kingdoms, and achieve a human form.—S.D., I, 203. In Rounds two and three they are the sumtotal of that which will eventually be human. In Round four at the beginning they form the etheric bodies of our Earth humanity. 2. Those whose bodies are taken by the Solar .—S.D., I, 203. 3. The sum total of the three kingdoms at present known.

The Earth gives man his body; the Gods give him his five inner principles...Spirit is one.—S.D., I,

The totality of form. God is "One, notwithstanding the innumerable forms which are in Him," so is man, on earth the microcosm of the macrocosm.—S.D., II, 197; II, 303; III, 584. Everything is comprised in man. He unites in himself all forms. The mystery of the earthly man is the mystery of the Heavenly Man. The potentiality of every organ useful to animal life is locked up in man, the Microcosm of the Macrocosm.— S.D., II, 723.

Pitris—The ancestors or creators of mankind. They are of seven classes, three of which are incorporeal and four corporeal. These are usually called the Lunar Pitris or Ancestors and must not be confounded with the Solar Pitris or Angels, who give mind to man, and create the relatively permanent body of the ego, or Higher Self

The lesser Builders are the negative aspect and are swept into action in group formation through the play of positive force upon them, or through the action of the conscious of the system. At the present stage of evolution—during the period of Light—it is difficult for the human being (until he has attained the consciousness of the Ego) to differentiate between the types of force, and to work consciously with these dual aspects. An Adept of the Light works with force in substance, viewing substance as that which is negative, and therefore occultly to be moved, and He can do this because He has (in the three worlds of His endeavour) achieved unity, or the point of balance and equilibrium, and can therefore balance forces and deal with positive and negative energies as appears best in the interests of the plan of evolution. The Brother of Darkness, knowing himself to be positive force in essence, works with negative

Devas, A Compilation, Page 37 substance, or with the lesser Builders to bring about ends of his own, incited thereto by selfish motive. The Brothers of Light co-operate with the positive aspect in, and of, all forms—the building devas of evolutionary intent—in order to bring about the purposes of the Heavenly Man Who is the sumtotal of planetary physical manifestation.

It can be seen, therefore, how necessary it is that the functions of the devas of all grades be comprehended. It is however equally important that man should refrain from the manipulation of these forces of nature until such time as he "knows" himself, and his own powers, and until he has fully unfolded the consciousness of the ego; then, and only then, can he safely, wisely, and intelligently co-operate in the plan. As yet, for the average man or even the advanced man this is dangerous to attempt and impossible to accomplish.

Now, let us add a few more statements upon which the student can ponder before we pass on to study specifically the three main groups of building devas on the three planes in the three worlds which most intimately concern man.

The building devas are the Ah-hi, or Universal Mind. They contain within their consciousness the plan logoic, and inherently possess the power to work it out in time and space, being the conscious forces of evolution.

Devas. "...he would have (1) divided the Devas into two classes—and called them the "Rupa-devas" and the "Arupa-devas" (the "form" or objective, and the "formless" or subjective Dhyan Chohans; and (2) would have done the same for his class of "men" since there are Shells and "Mara-rupas"—i.e. bodies doomed to annihilation. All these are: (1) "Rupa-devas"—Dhyan Chohans, having forms. | Ex-men. (2) "Arupa-devas"—Dhyan Chohans, having no forms. | Ex-men. (3) "Pisachas"—(two-principled) ghosts. (4) "Mara-rupa"—Doomed to death (three principled). (5) Asuras—Elementals—having human form. | Future men. (6) Beasts—Elementals second class—animal elementals. | Future men. (7) Rakshasas—(Demons) Souls or Astral Forms of sorcerers; men who have reached the apex of knowledge in the forbidden art. Dead or alive they have, so to say, cheated nature; but it is only temporary—until our planet goes into obscuration, after which they have nolens volens to be annihilated. It is these seven groups that form the principal divisions of the Dwellers of the subjective world around us."— Mahatma Letters to A. P. Sinnett, 107.

They not only embody the Divine Thought but are that through which it manifests, and its actuating activity. They are essentially motion. The lesser builders are more particularly the material form which is actuated, and in their cohorts are the substance of matter (considering substance as that which lies back of matter).

(Rupa with form or body. Arupa formless or bodiless. Generally speaking, the term rupa is applied to all forms in the three worlds whilst the term arupa is applied to all forms through which existences manifest on the four higher levels of the solar system and the abstract levels of the mental plane.)

They are that which produces concretion and which gives form to the abstract. The terms " rupa" and "arupa" devas are relative, for the formless levels and the formless lives are only so from the standpoint of man in the three worlds; the formless lives are those which are functioning in and through the etheric body of the Logos, formed of the matter of the four higher planes of the system. From this point of view the mental plane provides an interesting consideration:—its three higher subplanes are positive, and centralise the positive force of the plane. This focussing of the positive affects the negative substance of the four lower planes and brings about likewise:

a. The formation of force centres on the causal levels, those force centres being egoic groups in their various divisions.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 38 b. The concretion of substance, or the building of the dense physical body of the Logos.

On the physical plane of the solar system an analogous process can be seen taking place as regards the physical body of man, or his concrete manifestation. In his case, the fourth subplane is the focal point of positive force. On that plane are located the etheric centres of man, which have, in the evolutionary process and in the work of force direction, a relationship to his physical body similar to the relationship which groups of Egos on the mental plane have to the dense physical body of the Logos. This is a profound occult hint.

In the words " and the etheric body" (or life force and form) we have the key to the mystery of the solar and lunar pitris, and a hint as to the place of the physical body in the scheme of things.

The solar Pitris and devas find their force expression most adequately through man, with all that is included in that term. They are the source of his self-consciousness, and it is their action upon the negative aspect which produces the human Ego (on a large scale, viewing them in their totality as cosmic force); it is their action upon the negative or mother aspect which, on cosmic levels, produces that Self-conscious Unity, a solar Logos, functioning through His physical vehicle. From the Christian standpoint, the greater Builders are the , or force overshadowing and fecundating matter, whilst the negative or lesser Builders correspond to the Virgin Mary.

The lunar Pitris, and lesser builders from the systemic point of view find their fullest expression in the animal kingdom. When they, as the initiatory impulse, had produced animal man they had performed their prime function, and just as (on a smaller scale and in connection with only one of the Heavenly Men) the moon is a dying and decadent world, so on a systemic scale and therefore covering a vast period of time, the work of the lunar Pitris is slowly coming to a conclusion as the power of the third kingdom, the animal, over the human is being superseded by spiritual power; the systemic correspondence to lunar pitric activity will occultly die out.

The Lunar, or Barhishad Pitris have the following function:—S.D., II, 99. 1. They are the Ancestors of Man.—S.D., II, 107. 2. They are the Fashioners of his form. 3. They possessed the physical creative fire. 4. They could only clothe the human monads. 5. They could not make man in their likeness. 6. They could not give him mind.—S.D., II, 82. 7. They build his external form. 8. They give the lower principle.—S.D., II, 92

Temporarily they are the Conquerors of Spirit.—S.D., II, 66. a. Spirit becomes immersed in material forms. b. Forms are the battle ground. c. Eventually Spirit will slay the forms.—S.D., II, 67. d. Note the esoteric order.—S.D., II, 88, 92, 100; II, 116.

The lunar Pitris, (see above) the builders of man's lunar body and their correspondence in the other kingdoms of nature, are the sumtotal of the dense physical body of the Logos, or the substance of the mental, astral and physical planes (the gaseous, liquid and dense bodies which form a unity, His physical vehicle, viewing it apart from the etheric). They are the product of an earlier solar system; their activities date from there. That system stands to the present one as the lunar chain to ours. That is why the physical body is considered no principle (either for man or the solar Logos); that is why the lower nature is considered evil, and why man must "slay his lunar body."

Devas, A Compilation, Page 39 (In the Voice of the Silence the words occur: "Before that Path is entered, thou must destroy thy lunar body, cIeanse thy mind body, and make clean thy heart.")

Evil is that which can be controlled and subdued but which is permitted to govern. The positive can always manipulate the negative. When the negative line is followed and the line of least resistance to that which is no principle, is pursued, then we have evil.

In the first solar system the negative substance aspect, the Mother aspect or matter, was perfected. The lower Pitris dominated. In this system force activity lies in the hands of the solar Pitris or greater devas. At the close of the mahamanvantara they will have built according to the plan a perfect sheath or vehicle of expression for the Divine Thought, and this through the manipulation of negative substance; they utilise the heat of the Mother to nourish the germ of the Divine Thought, and to bring it to fruition. When the germ has developed to maturity the Mother aspect no longer has a place, and the Man occultly is freed or liberated. This idea runs through all manifestations, and the kingdoms of nature or the form (no matter what form it may be) nourish the germ of that which is the next step on in the evolutionary process, and are considered the Mother aspect. This aspect is eventually discarded and superseded. For example, the third kingdom, the animal, in the early stages nourishes and preserves the germ of that which will some day be a man; the personality is the preserver of that which will some day unfold into spiritual man.

It will thus become apparent to students how the Heavenly Man, viewing Him as a solar Deity, a self-conscious Entity, works with His negative aspect through positive force, from logoic etheric levels upon the three aspects of the logoic dense physical, thus bringing to maturity the atoms and cells of His Body, fostering the germ of self-consciousness, fanning the flame until each unit becomes fully group conscious and aware of his place within the body corporate. Each human being likewise, functioning in the three worlds, works in a corresponding way upon the conscious cells of his bodies, until each atom eventually achieves its goal. The Heavenly Man works necessarily through egoic groups, pouring positive force upon them until they emerge from passivity and negativity into potency and activity. Man works correspondingly through his centres upon his sheaths, and has a responsibility to the lesser lives which under the karmic law must be worked out. This is the basis of the evolutionary process.

A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 612-619

B. THE FUNCTIONS OF THE DEVAS.

Having predicated certain basic facts about the devas, viewing them as the sum total of the energy of substance and of substance itself, we come down to more technical details and to the more detailed consideration of these building forces as they construct the thought-form of the Logos, the solar System. From this consideration of them certain practical knowledge will eventuate:

First. Knowledge of how to build in mental matter in the three worlds, and how to employ the devas of the gaseous plane of the cosmic physical.

Second. Realisation of how to combine the pairs of opposites, and thus give body and form to concept.

Third. Materialisation upon the physical plane of the embodied idea.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 40 1. Manifestation of the Logoic Aspects. This is achieved through the close consideration of the laws of being, and of the method pursued by the Logos in giving His conception form, thus working out His purpose, or will, through that form. In the three planes of man's endeavour we have reflected the three aspects of the Logos as they produce manifestation:

The Mental Plane...reflection of the first aspect. The plane of concept, of the union of Father-Spirit-Will and Mother-Matter-Energy. This is the work of the Logos, and this union produces the Son, for Divine Thought takes form. The body of the Ego is there found.

Astral Plane...reflection of the second aspect, the Son. Materialisation proceeds through desire, and the form grows and evolves, becoming more adequate.

Physical Plane...Manifestation. The thought-form (of man or the Logos) appears in activity. The Son is born on the physical plane, the thought of the Thinker (divine or human) becomes an entity, separated from its originating source, yet energised by the vitality emanating from him.

All this becomes possible—speaking now from the human standpoint—through the action of the devas who are that which embodies thought, and that which give it its separated energy, as distinct from the purpose which will work out to fruition as the form becomes adequate as a medium of expression.

2. Deva force substance. As we consider the devas of the seven planes of the solar system, and especially as we consider those who work in the three worlds, we must bear in mind the following statements:

(The Solar Angels are dual in Nature. " is dual—Lunar in the lower, Solar in its upper portion."—S.D., II, 520, 675. a. The solar aspect is attracted towards Buddhi. b. The other descends into, or is attracted by the lower animal. c. The Solar Angels form the "Soul" or Second Aspect. d. The chief "Soul" is Manas, or mind."—S.D., II, 521.)

The First Statement. They are the devas who are the dual force-substance of the lowest cosmic plane, the cosmic physical. As regards the three worlds, they are the deva force and substance which compose the dense physical body of the Logos, hence man is limited, as he works on these planes, to those devas who are primarily regarded (from the higher levels) as having no part in the seven principles of the Logos; to those devas who form the gaseous, liquid, and concrete form of the Logos, the devas of concrete fire, of water and of earth in its densest aspect; to those devas who are the automatic, subconscious builders, carrying on the work of the dense physical vehicle of the Logos in the same sense as the builders in man's body work automatically and unconsciously, producing the cells and energising the bodily functions. This is the basis of the danger to man in tampering with these forces. He is too close to them in many ways; he identifies himself with them and until he has attained the consciousness of the Ego, and has with full knowledge established his identity with the Spirit aspect and not with substance, he is liable to be swept into the line of blind force, and become a lost soul should he trespass ignorantly, and curiously, into their domain.

He is concerned also with those devas who are as yet animated by the life and purpose which distinguished the evolution of the first solar system. That life is the life of God, and that purpose is the working out of His will, but it is evil from our present standpoint, for it is superseded as far as man is concerned by a different purpose and goal. Therefore, identification with that which is past, retrogression and the methods of the old are for a man a return along the path of self-

Devas, A Compilation, Page 41 conscious evolution, and lead eventually to a loss of the egoic principle, or of ego-ism, which distinguishes a man (human or heavenly) from the rest of evolution.

The Second Statement. The hope for the devas and for the form aspect lies in the fact that each of the subplanes of the cosmic physical plane comes under the direct influence of cosmic forces, originating on the six other cosmic planes. Of these forces everything is unknown and inconceivable, except the vague and general indications of these currents and forces as they may be felt as emanating from the cosmic planes.

The cosmic mental plane. This manifests for us in the three types of force to be seen on the systemic mental plane. These three types have not been sufficiently studied, and are:

a. The force which plays through all the manasic permanent atoms, and which produces basically that manifestation which we call the three worlds.

b. The force which animates those groups of "lotuses" which we call egoic groups or centres-aggregations of causal bodies.

c. The force which vitalises all the mental units and which is distributed thence to all the other permanent atoms.

These three types of force deal with the substance aspect—permanent atoms, causal vehicle, and mental units, and are therefore directly impressing themselves upon the devas who build these forms out of their own substance, and thus develop the divine plan. These three types of force affect substance, but with a psychic intent, being themselves swayed and actuated according to divine purpose, and from high levels. They emanate from the concrete levels of the cosmic mental plane (being therefore the force flowing through the mental unit of the Logos), and are concerned with the force centre which focalises the logoic mental body. They are the force of Agni in His first aspect. He is that fire which is distinctive of the cosmic mental plane, reflected in the cosmic gaseous subplane of the cosmic physical plane—our systemic mental plane.

The Cosmic . The force from this plane plays through our systemic astral plane, the cosmic liquid physical sub-plane, and it is practically subject only to two differentiations, each of them occultly embodied in two great groups of devas:

First. The devas who are the substance or force of the astral plane, viewing it as the sumtotal of desire, of feeling and of sensation. They are, therefore, the nerve centers, or nerve plexi, of the logoic physical body, for the systemic astral plane provides the nervous system of the logoic physical body. It is the body of intensest vibration from the physical standpoint, and the vehicle through which all is transmitted to that portion of the logoic physical body which corresponds to the brain in man. I can elucidate this no further, but the few words here imparted open up a tremendous range of thought, and give the key to much which transpires and which is distressing in solar evolution as well as human.

Second. Those devas who are the sumtotal of the astral light. They are the agents of the karmic lords, who are in themselves deva entities of an inconceivably advanced evolution and who, in their own substance,

1. Record. 2. Produce effects from cause. 3. Direct force.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 42 This particular group of devas emanate from a great force centre which we generalise by calling it by the name of the sun Sirius. Sirius-kama-manas—the cosmic astral plane—and the systemic astral plane—make a close interlocking chain, and form the line of least resistance for a particular type of negative force to pour through.

The Cosmic Physical Plane. This is the force (external and internal) of the solar system itself, and of its environing space. It might be regarded as the pranic forces, pouring through the logoic etheric body (our four higher subplanes) which are positive to the lower three, impregnating these lower three planes (a reflection in substance, or in the Brahma aspect, of the union of Father-Mother) and producing the purely concrete manifestation. This is why the physical vehicle has such control during long stages of man's evolution, for the force of this type of energy is necessarily felt more strongly than any other. It is deva force, and substance, which is so close to us as powerfully to delude us. Here lies the mystery of maya, and here is to be found the secret of illusion. Here exists for man the first great stage of the battle for full Self- consciousness, and for identification with the God-aspect, and not with the matter-aspect. Here lies the occult reason why man is called by his father's name and not his mother's. When man has dominated the deva essences of the physical plane, he controls next those of the astral and dominates the mental essences. Having achieved this in his own nature he can then safely become a magician and contact, control and work with, the devas in connection with the plans of the Heavenly Man. In the realisation of the three types of force, will be found for man the key to the mystery of his centres.

The secret of the note of the head, the heart, and the throat centre is found here and their blending with the lower centres so that the note of the higher sounds out, and the lower produces only harmony. Upon the note of nature the Logos has to superimpose a higher note. To the natural note of the centre (which is found through the development of the lower centre, which is its reflection or correspondence) must be added the dominant note of the higher centre, and, in the dual harmony the centre vibrates as desired. The note is the result of correct activity. That is why the lower centres of man are (in the early stages of his career) the controlling factor. He has to learn their note, and from it to attain the key of the higher. Then the higher takes the prominent place, and the lower only serves the purpose of providing that which is understood as occult "depth." Why is this? Because in these notes those groups of devas who are the force and energy of the centres (which are centres in substance) are contacted and controlled. Through their activity, directed through the centres, the material sheaths—physical, astral and mental—are built.

These ideas of force and the sheaths are the basis of the astrological teaching that is one of the keys to . We should therefore bear in mind that the Deva Lords, Agni, Varuna, Kshiti, represent in the exoteric teaching the substance aspect of the dense body of the Logos whilst the force aspect as flowing through the etheric body of the Logos is considered under various names, such as Shiva, Surya, Brahma. Yet the two aspects are but one.

The Astrological Key is referred to in the S.D., Vol. II, 26. Agni, the God of Fire in the Veda; the oldest and the most revered of the Gods in India. He is the triple aspect of Fire and therefore the sum total of manifestation. He is regarded also as the Lord of the mental plane (the 5th plane) whose symbol is Fire. Varuna, the God of Water, in the sense of the waters of space, or the waters of matter. He is regarded also as the Ruler of the astral plane (the 6th plane) whose symbol is water. Kshiti, the God of the Earth in the sense of dense substance, and not a planetary body; he is the God of the physical plane, the seventh plane.

Devas, A Compilation, Page 43 The Third Statement. The final point I seek to make here is that in connection with these three lower planes and their many groups of devas it must be remembered that their polar opposites are to be found in the great devas of the highest three planes.

Divine 1st Cosmic ether Primordial ether Fire Mental Plane Fire Monadic 2nd Cosmic ether Akasha Astral Plane Astral light. Spiritual (Atmic) 3rd Cosmic ether Aether Physical Plane Ether

The particular type of differentiated force which they embody, when brought into union with each other is that which causes concretion, or the appearance, in space and time, of the dense physical body. This should be carefully considered, along with the very interesting fact that on the fourth plane of our system (the fourth cosmic ether, or ) we have the sphere of certain occult happenings which cannot be more than hinted at, because their true significance is one of the secrets of initiation. They are an aspect of the plan of the Logos which can be contacted direct by those who have expanded their consciousness adequately.

The buddhic plane, or fourth cosmic ether, is the plane whereon:

a. The sacred planets function. b. Man will eventually function freed from the triple lower man. c. The true meaning of the words "Divine Hermaphrodite" is there to be comprehended. d. It is predominantly the plane of life-force, and one of the planes of generation. e. Here man will for the first time understand and utilize his relationship with the devas. f. It will see the fruition of the combined evolutionary process of the two solar systems. g. It is the plane from whence all planetary avatars emanate. h. The Heavenly Men take the first Initiation on this plane. i. On this plane the true inner significance of the "Sun" is apprehended.

More I cannot say, but careful study of that which is here given may open up much that is of significance in the study of the macrocosm and the microcosm.
