The award honors breeders who have dedicated their lives to improving the health, temperament and quality of purebred dogs. “The AKC breeder of the Year Award recognizes the dedication and commitment to excellence of our sport’s top breeders,” said ron menaker, AKC/eukanuba National Championship show Chairman. “We are proud to honor these seven finalists and recognize them for their years of hard work in pro- ducing beautiful and healthy purebred dogs.” A breeder is chosen from each of the seven groups: sporting, hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-sporting and herding. The individual group recipients will receive a medallion in recognition of their achievements on sun- day, December 5, 2010 at the AKC/eukanuba National Championship. At the end of the presentation the 2010 AKC breeder of the Year will be announced. Additionally, a canine portraitist will be commissioned to commemo- rate a prominent dog from the recipient's kennel, and their name will be inscribed on a perpetual trophy and plaque on permanent display at the AKC headquarters in New York City.

In his first five dog shows REO has won six points, a major, and BOS over specials, handled by Karen Bryant. He will be shown again as he’s maturing: he won’t turn 2 until October.

He has also done well in the field and completed the requirements for his Senior Courser title at the AKC trial in The Plains, VA in August, scoring 66 and 67 out of 70 possible points.

Nigel took this big win the last day of UKC’s Premier Show. He built up to it by winning Group 1 the first day and earning the distinction of being their first ever Altered Group winner at the Premier. He also went Group 2 the second day. We thank his breed & group judges Nina Marie Sherrer, Robert Collins, and Steven Melgreen, and especially his BIS judge Paul Bruneau for honoring our handsome boy.

He also earned two legs on his R01 Rally title that weekend. He finished it, as well as earned two legs on his RO2 Rally title 2 weeks later at DGOTC’s trials. Thanks to our Rally judges too.

WRA National/Eastern Whippet Derby and Jersey Rag Racers 25th Versatility event

Over a scorching 4th of July weekend in Woodstown, New Jersey, the Jersey Rag Racers celebrated the 25th Anniver- sary of their Versatility event by hosting the WRA National Fun Match, WRA National Race meet, Eastern Whippet Derby and finished up with an AKC lure coursing trial. Suffice it to say that as the days progressed so did the tempera- tures as well as the quality of competition. In the end, it was a seasoned veteran who won the WRA National meet, a beautiful youngster won the WRA National fun match, an expert on the oval won the Derby and taking home the top honors for the overall 25th Versatility event was a little blue iron hound who also won the AWC Triathlon at this years national.
