Castle Quarter

Enjoy a magical walk around the grounds and discover an array of art installations and family-friendly activities to see and join in with, including lantern making with the Nottingham Girls High School.

Look out for the beautiful illuminated bird lanterns as they process across the city. The birds have been made by artist Shamila Chady during workshops with the Refugee Forum youth group.

Music and performances around the city

 Listen out for The Nottingham School of Samba who’ll be bringing their vibrancy to the streets and the tracks as they hop on and off the tram on their route through the city.  Dhol Players and Band Baja provide your Light Night soundtrack as they perform everything from traditional Gujarati and Punjabi beats to the more contemporary western wonders at various locations in the city centre.

 Trolls - a walkabout performance by Nonsuch Young Performer Training Company. Hailing from the deepest, darkest corners of Nottingham’s caves, meet the Trolls - or at least try. Catch them as they journey through the city, exploring the lights and meeting the locals. Whatever you do, don’t let them catch the light!

ENCHANTED WATER , NG1 7FG, Carrington Street entrance towards Magistrates’ Court 6-9.30pm FREE

A series of installations, projections and storytelling reveal the history of the Nottingham and Beeston Canal. Enchanted Water is a partnership project with Nottingham City Council, The Canal and River Trust, Carrington Heritage Project, Nottingham Trent University and Beeston Canalside Heritage Project.

 STARGATE - be a part of the waterfall installation, StarGate, by Andy McKeown, by taking a selfie and uploading it to Instagram with the hashtag #NLN2018me Upload your picture by February 20 for the chance of seeing your face projected onto falling water.

 STORYTELLING ON A CANAL BOAT - join poet, Leanne Moden, and Canal Laureate, Nancy Campbell, on a canal boat for storytelling and poetry readings while you enjoy a leisurely ride on the water. 6-9pm (FREE, booking required: goo.gl/GJpu2G)

 RAINBOWS CANDLE LIGHT - Rainbows charity invite you to paint your own jam jar and add it to their illuminated installation, celebrating the lives of families with special educational needs and disabilities. A donation of £1 per candle welcome.

 VISIONS OF THE CUT - MA Museum and Heritage Development students from the School of Arts and Humanities at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) have curated a dynamic projection of contemporary and archival canal photography.

 EN ROUTE TO THE OCEAN - local artist Anna Roebuck has made installations from waste objects to decorate this heritage environment, including birds and fish from plastic waste for an installation in water.

 120 GREEN BOTTLE SITTING ON THE WALL - local artist Sarah Turner has worked in schools to decorate 120 bottles with images of wildlife and fill them with light to illuminate the walls as you approach the Enchanted Water site.  THE LIVERPOOL LANTERN COMPANY - discover some exciting wildlife puppets as you explore the Enchanted water site and be mesmerized by their grace and playfulness.

 VINTAGE TRAM - a projection onto a building on Carrington Street of the film of Mitchell and Keyon made of the first Nottingham Tram Ride in 1902.

All activities as part of Enchanted Water have been funded by Arts Council .
