Seven shrimp species ( Aristaeomorpha foliacea , Aristeus antenna - tus , Parapenaeus longirostris , Plesionika edwardsii , Plesionika martia , Pasiphae sivado and Pontocaris lacazei ) were collected as a result of ten trawl operations with a commercial bottom trawl. The most abundant species were P. longirostris (52.06%), A. foliacea (35.64%) and P. edwardsii (9.50%), represent - ing 97.20% of all captured shrimps. The catch per unit eort (CPUE) ranged from 3.094 kg/h to 9.251 kg/h, with an average value of 5.44 ± 2.01 kg/h for shrimps. A total of 37 sh species (28 teleosts and nine elasmobranchs) were captured. The prevailing sh species in catches were Chlorophthalmus agassizi , Merluccius merluccius and Etmopterus spinax in terms of biomass and Helicolenus dactylopterus , Hoplo - stethus mediterraneus , Trachurus trachurus and Lepidopus caudatus in terms of abundance. -

Abstract The complete list of Canarian marine decapods (last update by González & Quiles 2003, popular book) currently com- prises 374 species/subspecies, grouped in 198 genera and 82 families; whereas the Cape Verdean marine decapods (now fully listed for the first time) are represented by 343 species/subspecies with 201 genera and 80 families. Due to changing environmental conditions, in the last decades many subtropical/tropical taxa have reached the coasts of the Canary Islands. Comparing the carcinofaunal composition and their biogeographic components between the Canary and Cape Verde ar- chipelagos would aid in: validating the appropriateness in separating both archipelagos into different ecoregions (Spalding et al. 2007), and understanding faunal movements between areas of benthic habitat. The consistency of both ecoregions is here compared and validated by assembling their decapod crustacean checklists, analysing their taxa composition, gath- ering their bathymetric data, and comparing their biogeographic patterns. Four main evidences (i.e. different taxa; diver- gent taxa composition; different composition of biogeographic patterns; different endemicity rates) support that separation, especially in coastal benthic decapods; and these parametres combined would be used as a valuable tool at comparing biotas from oceanic archipelagos. -

Over 10,500 names are treated including 6,793 valid species and subspecies (with 1,907 primary synonyms), 1,271 genera and subgenera (with 393 primary synonyms), 93 families and 38 superfamilies. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are reviewed in detail, and many resolved. Detailed notes and references are provided where necessary. The constitution of a large number of families and superfamilies is discussed in detail, with the positions of some taxa rearranged in an attempt to form a stable base for future taxonomic studies. This is the first time the nomenclature of any large group of decapod crustaceans has been examined in such detail. Based on carapace features, this taxon is placed in the subfamily Actaeinae, family Xanthidae MacLeay, 1838. Species attributed to this genus are known from Eocene reef environments in Europe. Preservation of crustacean remains in this kind of environment is very rare, and it could explain scarcity of specimens of this genus. For the fi rst time, pictures of types of this genus described during the XIX century and the fi rst decades of the XX century are presented. A study of recently collected specimens from the Eocene of Veneto (Italy) allows to clarify relationships between Phlyctenodes krenneri Lörenthey, 1898 and P. dalpiazi Fabiani, 1911. Presence of P. tuberculosus Milne Edwards, 1862 among the new material is documented. The other known species of this genus, P. hantkeni Lörenthey, 1898 is placed in Pseudophlyctenodes new genus on the basis of differences in morphological features. Ruşen Ustaoğlu2, Ekrem Şanver Çelik1 1 Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Fisheries Faculty, Çanakkale-Turkey 2 Ege University, Fisheries Faculty, Izmir-Turkey Abstract Malacostraca fauna collected from freshwater and brackishwater in Sinop and Samsun were studied from 181 stations between February 1999 and September 2000. 19 species and 4 subspecies belonging to 15 genuses were found in 134 stations. In total, 23 taxon were found: 11 Amphipoda, 6 Decapoda, 4 Isopoda, and 2 Mysidacea. Limnomysis benedeni is the first time in Turkish Mysidacea fauna. In this work at the first time recorded group are Gammarus pulex pulex, Gammarus aequicauda, Gammarus uludagi, Gammarus komareki, Gammarus longipedis, Gammarus balcanicus, Echinogammarus ischnus, Orchestia stephenseni Paramysis kosswigi, Idotea baltica basteri, Idotea hectica, Sphaeroma serratum, Palaemon adspersus, Crangon crangon, Potamon ibericum tauricum and Carcinus aestuarii in the studied area. Potamon ibericum tauricum is the most encountered and widespread species. Key words: Freshwater, brackish water, Malacostraca, Sinop, Samsun, Turkey Introduction The Malacostraca is the largest subgroup of crustaceans and includes the decapods such as crabs, mole crabs, lobsters, true shrimps and the stomatopods or mantis shrimps. This species was first collected off Israel in 1961 and is now common along the Levantine coast. Recently a second alien xanthid species, Actaea savignii (H. Milne Edwards, 1834), was found off Israel and Turkey. A single adult specimen was collected in Haifa Bay in 2010, and two specimens were captured off Mersin, Turkey in 2011. Repeatedly reported from the Suez Canal since 1924, the record of the Levantine populations of A. savignii is a testament to the ongoing Erythraean invasion of the Mediterranean Sea. -
Recent Trends in the Archaeology of Bronze Age Greece

Tartaron Published online: 20 November 2007 Ó Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2007 Abstract This article surveys archaeological work of the last decade on the Greek Bronze Age, part of the broader discipline known as Aegean prehistory. Naturally, the literature is vast, so I focus on a set of topics that may be of general interest to non-Aegeanists: chronology, regional studies, the emergence and organization of archaic states, ritual and religion, and archaeological science. Greek Bronze Age archaeology rarely appears in the comparative archaeological literature; accord- ingly, in this article I place this work in the context of world archaeology, arguing for a reconsideration of the potential of Aegean archaeology to provide enlightening comparative material. Keywords Archaeology Á Greece Á Bronze Age Á Aegean prehistory Introduction The present review updates the article by Bennet and Galaty (1997) in this journal, reporting work published mainly between 1996 and 2006. Whereas they charac- terized trends in all of Greek archaeology, here I focus exclusively on the Bronze Age, roughly 3100–1000 B.C. (Table 1). The geographical scope of this review is more or less the boundaries of the modern state of Greece, rather arbitrarily of course since such boundaries did not exist in the Bronze Age, nor was there a uniform culture across this expanse of space and time. Nevertheless, distinct archaeological cultures flourished on the Greek mainland, on Crete, and on the Aegean Islands (Figs.
