  • GMS Value Chain Strategy and Siem Reap Action Plan 2018-2022
Strategy for Promoting Safe and Environment-Friendly Agro-Based Value Chains in the Greater Mekong Subregion and Siem Reap Action Plan, 2018–2022 As the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) has made considerable progress in food security, addressing health, safety, and environmental concerns is also essential. The strategy and action plan will strengthen the commitment to food security, increase market access for small producers, and ensure inclusive food safety for the GMS. It aims at achieving the GMS vision of being a leading global supplier of safe and environment- friendly agriculture products through four pillars: policies, infrastructure, knowledge, and marketing. About the Core Agriculture Support Program The Core Agriculture Support Program (CASP) supports the GMS in attaining its goal of being a leading producer of safe food using climate-friendly agriculture practices. Now on its second phase, since 2012, it is committed to increasing the subregion’s agricultural competitiveness through enhanced regional and global market integration and subregional connectivity. CASP is overseen by the agriculture ministries of the six GMS countries comprising the GMS Working Group on Agriculture. Cofinancing is provided by the Asian Development Bank, the Government of Sweden, the Nordic Development Fund, and the Water Financing Partnership Facility. About the Asian Development Bank ADB’s vision is an Asia and Pacific region free of poverty. Its mission is to help its developing member countries reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of their people. Despite the region’s many successes, it remains home to a large share of the world’s poor. ADB is committed to reducing poverty through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration.

  • The Development of Sustainable Farming Through Agricultural Cooperatives in Cambodia- Case Study in Prey Kabbas, Takeo Province
THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE FARMING THROUGH AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES IN CAMBODIA- CASE STUDY IN PREY KABBAS, TAKEO PROVINCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE FARMING THROUGH AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES IN CAMBODIA- CASE STUDY IN PREY KABBAS, TAKEO PROVINCE Bunthan Sereiroth* and Yamada Ryuichi Department of International Agricultural Development, Faculty of International Agriculture and Food Studies, Tokyo University of Agriculture, Tokyo, Japan * Corresponding author: [email protected] ABSTRACT One of Cambodia's major agricultural problems is the improper and excessive use of agrochemicals. The heavy use of the chemical has contributed to soil and water supplies degradation, and significantly damaged the ecosystems. It is recommended from the World Bank Report (2015) to strengthen sustainable agriculture in Cambodia for future agricultural growth. This study aims to determine the contribution of agricultural cooperative to promote sustainable rice farming and the development challenges of agricultural cooperatives. This study is based on the survey conducted in Prey Kabbas District, Takeo province, in July 2019. Mixed methodology was employed, and three agricultural cooperatives that supported sustainable farming were selected. A total of 140 farmers were randomly selected and interviewed using a semi-structured interview-based. This study found that most of the selected agricultural cooperatives are adopting sustainable rice farming by using high resistance variety and utilizing at least fifty percent of natural materials in the field. Three factors provided by agricultural cooperatives include financial support, social capital, and technical support have facilitated farmers to practice sustainable farming. However, some significant challenges hindered the operation of agricultural cooperatives. All key stakeholders must strengthen agricultural cooperatives to improve rural livelihood and promote sustainable agriculture for future agricultural growth.

  • Speech by Ambassader (English)
Speech by H.E. Mr. KUMAMARU Yuji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan To the Kingdom of Cambodia At the Grant Contract Signing Ceremony for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects October 28, 2013 - Mr. Bob Jacob, Deputy Country Director of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, - Mr. Chhem Model, Director of Phnom Thom Lower Secondary School at Mongkol Borey District, Banteay Meanchey Province, - Mr. Pou To, Director of Kampong Trabaek District Office of Education, Youth and Sport in Prey Veng Province, - Distinguished Guests, Ladies and gentlemen, It is a great pleasure for me to hold a signing ceremony for four grant contracts of the Grass- Roots Human Security Project. I am particularly glad that the signing is conducted in the special context of this year 2013 which marks the 60th anniversary of Japan-Cambodia Friendship. The four projects of which I signed the contracts today aim to provide the children in rural areas with improved educational environment. I sincerely believe that strengthening of the education sector holds a key for the future development and prosperity of Cambodia, and I am hopeful that Japan’s supports will duly contribute to this purpose. In fact, Japan has been assisting the education sector in Cambodia for two decades through the grant aid for constructing school buildings and the technical cooperation for training teachers. The scheme of the four projects is called KUSANONE Grant which is designed to promote the human security of the vulnerable population, and thus, implemented upon requests from provincial governments and NGOs. The first grant amounting to $ 97,431 is provided to the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief for the construction of 4-room school buildings and school furniture at Paoy Angkor Primary School and Kcheay Primary School in Malai District, Banteay Meanchey Province.
