März 2020 in Essen und am 12. März 2020 in Berlin wird der einzig wahre Captain des Raumschiffs Enterprise durch einen ganz besonderen „Star Trek“-Abend führen. Im Anschluss an ein Screening des Klassikers „Star Trek II – Der Zorn des Khan“ wird Popkultur- Ikone William Shatner seinem Publikum für ein ausführliches Q&A zur Verfügung stehen. Moderiert wird das Ganze von Philipp Schulze, Chefredakteur von Deutschlands renommiertestem Filmmagazin CINEMA, der mit dem Hollywoodstar über sein Leben und seine Karriere sprechen wird. William Shatner hat mit seiner hemdsärmeligen und augenzwinkernden Art nicht nur das „Star Trek“-Universum maßgeblich geprägt. In den vergangenen 50 Jahren trat er als Schauspieler, Regisseur, Produzent, Schriftsteller und Musiker in Erscheinung und wurde für seine Performances in Serien, wie „Boston Legal“, mit zwei Emmys, einem Golden Globe und diversen anderen Preisen ausgezeichnet. Daneben machte er als erfolgreicher Pferdezüchter, Entertainer in einer One-Man-Broadwayshow und als Musiker mit einer Reihe von außergewöhnlichen Alben auf sich aufmerksam. So zum Beispiel mit „Seeking Major Tom“, auf dem er spacige Coverversionen bekannter Songs von U2, Frank Sinatra, Queen und Pink Floyd darbot. Zu dem Projekt „Ponder the Mystery“ wurde sogar ein eigenes Ballett konzipiert. 2018 veröffentlichte er mit „What About Me“ sein bislang letztes Album. Daneben schrieb William Shatner knapp 30 Bücher. Seine Autobiografie „Up Till Now“ stand monatelang auf der Bestsellerliste der New York Times, seine Erinnerungen an seinen engen Freund und Weggefährten Leonard „Mr. Spock“ Nimoy, „Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man“, gilt als eine der intimsten Darstellungen einer jahrzehntelangen Freundschaft innerhalb der Entertainmentindustrie. Im September 2018 erschien mit „Live Long And . .: What I Learned Along the Way“ schließlich ein ebenfalls sehr persönliches Werk, das gewissermaßen als Vorlage für die Geschichten und Anekdoten dient, die der 88- Jährige im Rahmen von „William Shatner Presents Star Trek II. - The Wrath of Khan (Der Zorn des Khan)“ zum Besten geben wird. Bei diesem Event verbindet sich die grandiose Science-Fiction der „Star Trek“-Reihe mit der Realität ihres Hauptdarstellers auf einzigartige Weise. For The Love Of Spock is laden with never-before-seen footage and interviews of friends, family and colleagues that include William Shatner and the original Star Trek cast, Zachary Quinto and the new crew of the Starship Enterprise, filmmaker JJ Abrams and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.
