Three arrested for , forgery, charges Case No. 07-05379

A swift and intensive investigation yesterday began with a reported forgery in progress, continued with a foot pursuit, and ended with an apartment search. When the smoke cleared, two men and a woman were under arrest on a multitude of property charges.

Moments before 5:00 p.m. yesterday, a bank employee called Eugene Police to report that a man identified as Blake Roberts was trying to open an account with a stolen check. Police quickly responded to the Washington Mutual Bank at 1100 Willamette Street, but just before the first officer arrived, Roberts became nervous and left the bank building. He stopped to talk to a woman in a red Chevy Lumina, but when they saw the officer arriving the woman drove away from the bank and Roberts ran away on foot. The other officers responding to the call spread out in the area, and one of them, Officer Joe Kidd, spotted Roberts running near 12th and Charnelton and took him into custody after a brief foot chase.

Officer Kidd’s initial investigation determined that the getaway driver in the red car was Roberts’ girlfriend, Adriel Nevler, and that a third suspect, David Pompa, was staying at Roberts and Nevler’s apartment and was involved in the . Upon searching the downtown apartment, the car, and the three suspects’ persons, Officer Kidd located and seized cash, several credit cards, forged checks, dozens of other personal and financial documents, a garage door opener, nearly 150 stolen music CDs, and other of vehicle break-ins and a burglary.

Blake Aron Roberts, age 20, was lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Theft in the First Degree, Forgery in the First Degree, , Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, Attempted Theft in the Second Degree, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, and unrelated outstanding warrants for for meth possession and delivery and for failing to appear in court on a Driving While Suspended charge.

Adriel Fay Nevler, age 18, was arrested and lodged at the jail on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Theft in the First Degree, and to Commit Identity Theft.

David Sebastian Pompa, age 26, was cited in lieu of custody on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Identity Theft, Theft in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Attempted Theft in the Second Degree, Forgery in the Second Degree, and Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle.

CRIME PREVENTION ALERT: Roberts, Nevler, and Pompa stole credit cards, checks, and financial documents from unlocked vehicles on the street and in open garages in southeast Eugene. Eugene Police urge all residents to always lock their cars, garages, and homes, and to never leave any personal identification, checks, credit cards, or other sensitive documents in their vehicles. Residents also should be aware that leaving garage door openers in vehicles parked on the street or in the driveway can give criminals easy access to the garage and, if the connecting door is unsecured, to the house.
