2 ST JAMES THE GREAT WRIGHTINGTON WITH HESKIN Churchwarden’s Notes Dear Friends, I hope you have all enjoyed the Summer sunshine and holidays, at home or away. I’m sure you have all heard the good news by now!! We have appointed a new Vicar !!! He will be half-time, living in the Vicarage, he is married with a grown-up family, he is moving from All Saint’s Anchorsholme, Cleveleys. His name is….wait for it….. Revd Stefan Dnistrianskyj, and his wife is Ann. To pronounce their name say Denis-tree- ann-ski. He will be Instituted by the Bishop of Blackburn(Julian), and Inducted by the Archdeacon of Blackburn(Mark) on Wednesday the 31st October 2018 at 7.30pm at St James’ Church Wrightington with Heskin, followed by refreshments in the Church Hall. Revd Stef’s first services will be on Sunday 4th November. All Parishioners are welcome to attend these services. There are still many jobs, especially now we will be having lots of visitors for the Induction service, we would like to make a good impression and have everything looking ship-shape. If you can help with anything, sweeping leaves, mowing, strimming, cleaning inside the church, cleaning brasses. Any day or evening, if you can help, contact one of the wardens or Sue Wild. During the Summer a few of our congregation have been busy, moving the church oil tank, clearing the gravediggers area, emptying the two cabins from the back of the hall, and moving them to new positions. Skimming the weeds from the surrounds of the car park and replacing with road planings, which has now extended the car park. We are at present waiting for prices for the lining of the car park, also the draining of the field. For all this Summer labour I have to give a big Thank You, to Alan Carr for his labours and the use of his machines, we are most grateful, but not forgetting his loyal helpers, Sue and Gerry, assisted by the wardens, and even little Zac was handy with the rake. Please keep supporting our fundraising, to help to pay for our Church improvements. Our next event is our Harvest Dance, the date has been changed to Saturday 20th October, in the form of a 60’s/70’s night, starting with Hot Pot supper at 7pm. Tickets £8. Then of course our Annual bonfire on Monday 5th November, then the Murder Mystery evenings, and the Christmas Fair, see details elsewhere in the magazine. We have again taken the liberty of enclosing 2 books of tickets for our Grand Christmas Draw, which will be drawn at the Christmas Fair on Saturday 17th November. If you wish to help us by supporting this, please return your counterfoils and payment to church or to the Vicarage before the 17th November. Thank you and God Bless Anne and Geoff 3 ST JAMES THE GREAT WRIGHTINGTON WITH HESKIN Mothers’ Union

Well, here we are again. I hope you all had a lovely summer break. Our meeting in September was a free and easy affair including our usual Bring & Buy Sale, which raised approximately £45.00. We started with our short service followed by a chat, a drink and a quiz as there were quite a few members missing because of holidays etc. We have been invited to join Shevington Mother’s Union for their 70th Birthday Service on Wednesday 10th October at 1.30pm. I need names of those wanting to go by the end of September. The October meeting starts with the Annual Wave of Prayer Service. We then have Mr & Mrs Oliver giving their talk on Guide Dogs for the Blind. Also October sees the arrival of our new Vicar. His Institution and Induction takes place on Wednesday 31st October and his first service will be on Sunday 4th November. I hope all Mother’s Union members will be there for at least one of these services to welcome him to our Parish. In November we welcome the return of Heather Cameron who will tell us about the work of the Street Pastors. Some of you will remember Heather for her talk about Malawi; some of you still donate items to the Torch Trust Collections to send to Malawi. God Bless Marie

Rainbows Rainbows started back on 12th September after a long summer break. We have lots of things planned for this term leading up to Christmas. We will be making firework pictures and celebrating Diwali. We have a new girl who will be making her promise and a few who will leave us at the end of this term as they will be ready for Brownies. We do have spaces if you know of anyone aged 5 or 6 who would like to join our unit. Our term dates are 12th September to 17th October and 7th November to 12th December Sarah

OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 18 ISSUE 10 Heskin Pemberton C of E School Hello from everyone at Heskin Pemberton’s School, I hope you’ve all had a peaceful, enjoyable and relaxing summer. Our children have been excitedly telling me all about their lovely adventures during the holidays. One child, Roddy, even travelled all the way to Russia to take part in The Siberian Ice Race. He not only took part in this challenging event but he also raised almost £600 for our school while he was out there. An amazing achieve- ment and a very kind gesture. Well done, Roddy. Roddy is the one on the left! At the end of July, we waved a tearful farewell to our Year 6 children who have now moved on to their various high schools. We’ve already had many reports about how well they’ve settled in, how they’ve made new friends and how they’re missing Heskin. We wish them the very best of luck in this new and exciting chapter in their lives. At the start of September, we were joined by sixteen new Reception children and two new members of Year 3. All of the children have made a great start to their time at their new school. Our older children are doing a fantastic job of making sure the pupils are looked after and feel at home at Heskin Pemberton’s. The new school year is always a busy time and we have got lots of exciting events to look forward to. We are particularly eager to meet our new vicar, Reverend Stefan Dnistrianskyj. We look forward to working closely with Rev Stef as he settles into his role at St. James the Great. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the fun and enjoyment we all share at Heskin Pemberton’s and please feel free to visit our website if you would like to know more about our school. www.heskinpembertons.co.uk

Best Wishes, Alan Brindle, Head Teacher

11 ST JAMES THE GREAT WRIGHTINGTON WITH HESKIN Sunday School As Sunday school has been closed since early July I asked a few of the children to write what they had been up to over summer as it makes more fun reading! Isabel Dyson (10)- Over the summer holidays I have been to Florence and Sicily on holiday and seen the leaning tower of Pisa and the Florence cathedral. I saw a lot of restaurants and ice cream parlours at night. Our hotel had a swimming pool on the top of the roof! It was amazing and it lit up at night. The best thing about the summer was playing with all my friends. One girl was from America, Alice and I loved playing with her in the sea and we could see lots of fishes. We then went back to the pool playing catch but my head was going under as the pool was deep! My other friend was called Ellie and she was my best friend ever! The funniest thing on holiday was I had a spinny thing, at night the men were selling them and throwing them up in the air. I got it as it lit up and back at the hotel I threw it up at the disco and it went down a drain! So a man working late had to get it out, it smelled though! This month I am looking forward to the new vicar starting and coming back to Sunday school because I want to have fun and enjoy it. Later on in the month I am looking forward to Harvest as we can decorate the shoeboxes because someone old is having it. Thomas Ormesher 6- Over summer I have been to Tenerife and Anglesey. I have tried mussels – yuk! I have also been trying to do a side flip on my trampoline. I have been learning gate practice ant BMX and playing with my school friends. The best bit of the summer was my holiday to Tenerife, my first time abroad and I enjoyed the waterparks and taking off on an aeroplane. The funniest thing on holiday was Dad coming down the waterslide superfast but ended up hurting himself! This month I am looking forward to taking the family bible into school for show and tell time along with my holiday photos. I have a kararte competition and lots of football matches too. I am so proud to be chosen for school councillor for my class. Freddie Waring- 6- Over the summer holidays I have been doing lots of lovely things. I like playing on the farm and playing with my sister Molly. The best thing was playing with Molly and our family trip to Blackpool pleasure beach. The funniest thing was when Molly climbed into the wheelbarrow in our garden. It is my sister’s birthday soon, I am looking forward to that. Lloyd Evans- 6- Over the summer holidays we went to the North Yorkshire moors on holiday. The best thing was finding fossils on Robin Hood Bay.

OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 18 ISSUE 12 Sunday School Continued…… The funniest things was Mabel wearing Bridget’s wellies! I am looking forward to seeing all my friends again this month. Poppy & Scarlett Holding (4 & 3)- Over the holidays we have been walking our puppy in the woods and went camping in a shepherds hut for Dad’s birthday! We found lots of bugs and explored! The best thing was going to Blackpool Circus and seeing the clowns, Mooky and Mr Boo! They were very funny and made us all laugh! The funniest thing was the clowns at the circus and the invisible dog. The dog wee’d on Mr Boo! Next month Scarlett is excited to get her dance show costumes and Poppy starts French club. Thank you to all the children for the super effort and time in writing the above! Sunday school is back as from today and we are working hard on our autumn window display and practising our song to sing in the service. It is lovely to see new faces. All ages 0-12years are most welcome and as ever thank you to all the helpers who support our many pre-schoolers. Rachael x Rachael x
