3 Sport s Corner by Greg B. Many Americans have already failed to keep their New Years

resolutions and it?s not even March yet. A major reason people have failed to keep their exercise commitments was boredom. It can be hard to stick with regular exercise when the exercises done are not The Winter Party went off with a fun, stimulating, challenging, novel, varied, social and engaging. Unlike success. Participating in social physical activities like basketball can reduce your mental illness symptoms. Exercising and gaming may reward you with human interaction, oxytocin, endorphins, adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin and a healthier body image. Basketball participants often activate several regions of their brains while incorporating several skills and body systems. Helping Vail?s team win games may boost your mood and the morale of the Uptown Clubhouse. Joining Vail's basketball team gives members the chance to improve their coordination, confidence, focus, fitness, communication and motor skills. Striving to improve your performance and working to contribute to Vail?s objectives may provide you with enhanced sense of purpose. Even though Minneapolis and Saint Paul are the 3rd and 7th fittest cities in the nation the fact remains that people with the lived experience of mental illness tend to die earlier than the average U.S. inhabitant. On average, people with mental illness experience more overweight and obesity than the rest of the general population. Indoor forms of physical activity like Vail basketball can help you obtain the recommended amount of physical activity this winter. In 2019, basketball improved the physical, social and mental health of members of different ages, backgrounds, genders and health statuses and this year it may improve yours. A lifestyle that optimizes your nervous system, fitness and body composition may improve your basketball performance and benefit your overall health. Like any form of physical activity there are risks involved in engaging but taking better care of yourself may help reduce your risk. Commitment to exercise and taking better care of yourself may also benefit the environment, economy and other aspects of your life. Added green benefits to exercise - being healthier tends to your lower carbon footprint and plant life feeds of some of the byproducts of exercise. Healthier people tend to take fewer days off and they often have an easier time contributing to the U.S. economy. Succeeding in a spectated, spotlighted domain like basketball can help you prove to the world that the demographics you identify with are as equal and as able as any demographic. Bringing attention to and improving society?s outlook towards sparsely represented, heavily stigmatized and supposedly less able populations might be as easy as joining Vail's basketball team. This year's theme, then, recognizes the struggle for voting rights among both black men and women throughout American history. It is an ongoing struggle experienced by people of color that continues into the 21st century. Recently, the 2018 US midterm election saw a surprising record number of minority and women voted into state legislative power coast to coast. The voting tallies sparked new hope of an historic pendulum that was swinging back - again - to equal voting rights for all. Source: http://www.chiff.com/home_life/holiday/black-history-month.htm

However, after our new l?oecxahtiaouns attiv teh?e r Sets Leoauricsh P Ia drke cided that ground hogs Rec Centearr. e boring rodents that hibernate half the year. There are far more interesting fur bearers to describe. A short list would include mink, lynx and timber wolves. I forget why but I chose to write about possums. Possums are the only marsupials native to this country. Marsupials are known for carrying their young in a pouch. Kangaroo are also marsupials and a baby of both mammals is known as a joey. A possum is the size of a cat and can also climb trees. Possums are omnivores and will eat almost anything. They do not hibernate but are usually nocturnal. But when it is cold you may see them during the day also. It is not a good idea to get near one considering they have very sharp teeth. They are relatively new to the Twin Cities. According to published reports they?ve been living near the border of Minnesota and Iowa for over 100 years. But they only started to migrate north about 25 years ago. As new transplants go they are often lousy neighbors considering their reputation as scavengers. Biologists suggest the reasons for their arrival to the metro would include climate change, industrialization and continued population growth. Whether you believe that these critters are novel or a nuisance depends on your point of view. Are they on your roof at 3 am prior to raiding your garbage or do you just see them in the woods minding their own business? Do possums make ideal pets? Are they as smart as dogs or cats? Do they deserve their own national holiday? The answer to all three is no but give them credit for adapting. Unlike some humans who were weary of moving to this area, they are now here to stay. Happy February!
