This paper attempts to define the meaning of e-governance in national and international perspective. Furthermore it tries to demystify about major challenges in implementation of e-governance in India. It also suggests some inferences to triumph the success of e-governance especially in context of India. It starts with a definition of e-governance, and then presents a general e-governance model and several case studies (initiatives) and examples. The study focuses on extensive study of secondary data collected from government websites, various national and international journals and articles, publications, conference papers, government reports, newspapers, magazines which focused on various aspects of governance. E-governance has been recognized as a vital force for transformational improvement in quality, efficiency and effectiveness of governance. Indian government is making many efforts to provide services to its citizens through e-Governance.
