In each square four 11" squares of one material are between 4 triangular pieces of different material . The 4 corners of the square and the center block are of still another material. Quilting with red and yellow silkateen thread is done at the corners of the red bands and in the center of the bands between the squares. the backing is black,purple, and green flowers and leaves on a tan background. Probably made by Mrs. Georgia M. Stevens circa. 1910. Suitable for attic bed? 2 QUiLf 74 x 79 Figured, pink border,41" wide on 2 sides,41" wide on 2 sides. Blue triangles alternating with white ones next to the wider border. 5704 patchwork squares of unbleached cotton with 2" corner triangles of blue alternate with squares which have pink triangles. These triangles meet to form a diamond pattern,in the finished quilt. Quilting is done by white cotton rosettes at the corners and centers of squares. Backing is of unbleached white cotton. Poor condition. Some might be made into a quilt for a child's crib or bed. Made by Mrs. Georgia M. Stevens circa 1912. 3 QUILT 59 x 60 30 x 30 puckered wool & cotton squares of many colors. In the center below it is pictured a draped woman holding a sheaf of wheat in 1 hand and a torch of wheat in the other. Below her is "Trade Mark" and on a curve below that is WHOLE WHEAT. "Economical" above "Wholesome" above "36 Cartons". On the right of the woman is printed "Palatable" above "Nutricious" above "12 Ounces". Near the bottom of the side is "Manufactured by" above "The Shredded Wheat Co." above "Niagara Falls, f.Y." On the opposite end of the box in the middle of the 3 boards is stamped "Simpson & Rowland" above "Keep Dry". Note: Before paateboord cartons were used, groceries came from the wholesalers to the retail stores in wooden boxes. The top boards were pried off and. the contents piled on the store shelves. Simpson & Rowland was probably the best known wholesaler in Lowell. Hazel's father, Clarence E. Stevens,was for 32 years an independent grocer in Lowell, first in Centralville, at the corner of Bridge and Third Streets, later in Cupples' Square in the Highlands. After clerking for Munn & Sons (Kearney Square), he went into business for himself about 1893, later moved to the Highlands,and sold out in 1915 9 tin box: with hinged glass cover; 8 3/4 x x 6" high. On the 1P' border around the glss in gilt print on black ground, lire the words: "From the Bakery with 0 Thousand Windows" on the upper 9" side; At the bottom: "Loose-Wiles Biscuit Co., Boston". On the sides of the cover are 2 fancy red stripes. On the edges of the cover 15/16" deep is printed in silt: "Sunshine Bis- cuits". Around. top of box lk" deep Kilt band, edge bent inward Note: Cookies or "Biscuits" were sold in bulk by the pound in the e , rly 1900's. The glass cover made it possible for the customer to see the cookies he was selecting without handling them. A 10" iron crank with wooden handle turned the rollers as the clothes went between them. a top screw on the frame 'Ld.- justed the tightness of the rollers to the thickness of the cloth going through, 12 washboard: 12" wide x 23 ,7t" long; wooden frame, its top 6" deep, recessed on 1 side for holding soap; side pieces extending 4" as lers below bottom of frame; ribbed glass is held for the clothes to be rubbed against inside the frame. June 21, 1971 Cast brass andirons, felt slippers, stockings, homespun hander- chief presented to the Chelmsford Historical Society at Chelmsford, Mass., for the Barrett Homestead by Edith Clark Moury Wolf (Mrs. Roscoe Milton Wolf) of 143 Kendall Ave., Jersey Shore, Penna.,17740. The andirons came from the home of Albe Cady Barrett (8th Gen.) thru his son Amos Augustus Barrett (9th Gen.) to my mother Martha Huller Barrett Moury and then on to me. The Albe Cady Barrett home was in Northumberland, Pa. The homespun handkerchief came from Albe Cady Barrett and could have belonged to his father Nathan Barrett (7th Gen.) of Hinsdale, Mass. The stockings were made by Betsy Spaulding Barrett with her initials knit in at top (B.S.B). She spun the yarn and knit them at the home of her father Nathan Barrett in Hinsdale, Mass. The felt shoes also were made by her at the age of 18 to wear to her first dance. The copy of the will of Thomas Barrett, Sr., (1st Gen.) also inventory of his estate, I obtained and had copy made for the Society. The back of gown has a rectangular lace collar, 7" x 4", shaped to the neck; the panel in back is in jumper effect -- a shaped panel to the waist line; the belt in back is made of 3 folds of satin caught by a beaded decoration.
