MVNO SUCCESS FACTORS

For more information email [email protected]

This paper describes key success factors for MVNOs. Badly-executed and badly-run MVNOs have given the industry a reputation for marginal returns. This has restricted investment, valuations and M&A activity.

Based on our unique experience of setting up, operating, and in some cases selling dozens of active MVNOs, these are the critical success factors to create and grow a truly successful MVNO.

We see here that technology and a "Full" or "Light" MVNO structure are not the determining factors for success or failure. This is often ignored by MVNOs, resulting in marginal outcomes below original expectations

3 Conclusions & Recommendations

We have helped launch and grow major successful MVNOs. Here are a few examples of delivering successful MVNO Outcomes:

• As Board members of Virgin Mobile France, we setup the MVNO in 2007 and set it on a trajectory to a €325 million sale to SFR 7 years later • As COO of Telenet Mobile launched in 2009, our market disruptor strategy enabled the acquisition in 2014 of the 3rd Mobile Operator Base KPN in Belgium • As Managing Director at UK, the MVNO business was setup in 2007 and successfully sold to UK in 2015 • As Advisors to Nowo, A Consumer MVNO was launched in Portugal by a challenger Cable Company in 2015, rapidly gaining market share

At Mobile Conclusions, although we have very deep engineering and operational expertise acquired over 30 years in telco, we firmly believe that the success of MVNOs depends entirely on total customer focus, the adoption of cost-cutting digital tools and flawless execution by management. We have been involved in setting up and operating dozens of successful MVNOs worldwide, and we can help you launch and grow your own MVNO.
