BACK TO TOP UND couple write and perform one-act play

Richard Schultz (Electrical Engineering) and CK Braun-Schultz (College of Business and Public Administration) were introduced and set up on a blind date in 2000; three years later they were married. Three years after that, the couple explored the possibility of participating in a playwriting course, taught by Kathleen McLennan (Theatre). As a result, the couple has written a one-act play called "Compromising Positions," which will premiere at the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival, July 19-30. In preparation for the fringe festival, the couple

will also perform the play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, July 12-13, at the Burtness Lab Theatre.

As two very independent-minded people who married later in life, the couple quickly found that marriage was

more difficult than anticipated. The Schultz’s often found themselves wondering, “What keeps a marriage

together?” It is that very question that led to the creation of the play, "Compromising Positions." The original

play consists of three characters, Tom and Isabelle, two newlyweds who struggle in their search for marital

bliss, and a marriage therapist who helps the couple explore the meaning of the word compromise. Yet, as the

story unfolds, Tom and Isabelle explore what it really takes to have a successful relationship and just how far

you will –- or will not –- go to compromise. Tom and Isabelle confront their hot button issues and are left with

the realization that when placed in a compromising position, love may not conquer all.

Although this real married couple claims the show is not autobiographical (wink, wink), they do believe the

relationship issues in "Compromising Positions" are universal. "Even though Tom and Isabelle have specific

arguments that cause interruptions in their relationship, it is the journey the couple has to go through to find

compromise that is applicable to anyone who has been in a relationship. Whether you’re married, single, or

want to be single again, this story exposes the truth about marriage, the cost of compromise, and what to do when trying to find the middle ground,” CK Braun-Schultz explains.

The show is free and open to the public July 12 and 13, at 7:30 p.m., UND Burtness Lab Theatre. The show is not suitable for children 16 years of age and younger.

For more information about "Compromising Positions" or the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival, please contact CK Braun-Schultz at 777-6937 or e-mail [email protected]

Bismarck radiologist named radiology chair

Edward "Ted" Fogarty, a Bismarck radiologist, has been appointed chair of the Department of Radiology at the

School of Medicine and Health Sciences. His appointment was effective July 1.

Fogarty joined the UND medical school faculty in October 2003 as a clinical assistant professor of radiology.

"We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Fogarty to this important administrative post within the medical school,"

said H. David Wilson, dean and vice president for health affairs at UND. "He has been a very effective and enthusiastic faculty member and we know our students will continue to benefit greatly from the leadership he brings to radiology education."

"Our unique situation at UND for training of the third and fourth year medical students at the four clinical teaching sites across the state has always created a great deal of variability in the learning experience of the students at the various campuses. That heterogeneity of experience is not necessarily detrimental; we can now overcome the lack of cohesiveness for our students by using internet-based distribution of important teaching cases across the state to the various clinical campuses. Visual imagery is a key point in creating lasting points of knowledge and understanding in student physician's minds; I will create a core curriculum of iconic medical

images associated with classic disease states so that our students are best prepared for taking care of patients

in their residency years and beyond,” Fogerty said.

Fogarty completed an undergraduate degree, with honors, at the University of Chicago in 1993 and then worked as a research assistant at the Medical Institute in Chicago. He earned the Doctor of

Medicine degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha in 1998.

After medical school, he took one year of training in UND's transitional year internship program based at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. In 2003 he completed a four-year radiology residency program at Creighton University Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital, in Omaha. During residency training, he served as chief resident and received the RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award. He was also elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society as a resident while at Creighton University Medical Center.

In 2003, Fogarty joined the Medcenter One Health Systems as a staff radiologist, where he will continue to practice.

Fogarty and his wife, Carolyn, and their three children reside in Bismarck. -- School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

BACK TO TOP Transportation lists account billing codes

Because PeopleSoft numbers are not compatible with the North Dakota state fleet dispatch system, we have created a system using TranID's. A four-digit number represents an individual fund-dept-project-program

combination. When making reservations at other North Dakota State motor pools, please call our office first to

obtain the correct TranID to be used for billing your vehicle. This will help alleviate end-of-the-month billing

problems. Thank you.
