This Week in IUL News IUCAT Upgrade – Transition Scheduled for October 19 University of Chicago Launches Kuali OLE and New Catalog Fall 2014 Digital Library Brown Bag Series Staff News Librarian Library News and Events Emerging Technologies Librarian Ruth Lilly Medical Library IUCAT Upgrade – Transition Scheduled for October 19 We will be transitioning http://iucat.iu.edu to the upgraded new IUCAT interface[1] on Sunday, October 19 during our regular catalog maintenance window (approx 6:00am- Professional Staff 10:00am). There should be little to no downtime; following the change users will simply be taken to the upgraded interface. Programmer/Analyst, Digital Libraries Applications Prior to the cutover, the upgraded interface will be available for a general public preview IU Bloomington starting the week of September 8; there will be a banner message on the new IUCAT announcing the coming change and linking to the public preview site. Senior Applications Specialist IU Bloomington We are asking all staff to review the staff preview site (as previously announced, accessible at http://iucat-staging.uits.iu.edu/ - please do not publicly share this URL) both to become Head, Acquisitions Accounting familiar with the changes in the interface and to help us in testing its functionality. Should you IU Bloomington find problems or errors, please report them using the preview site feedback form, linked from the header and footer of each page within the staff preview IUCAT. Be advised - we are still working to finish up a few items in the staff preview, so there remain some known bugs. We are maintaining a full list of Work In Progress/Known Issues for this upgrade of the new IUCAT while it continues in its development phase, available on the New IUCAT blog here. In 1980 Michael became a cataloger in in the IUB Libraries Special Languages Cataloging Department after a brief time as a student employee in the department. In 1990 he left the Libraries for a faculty position in the IU Libraries Department of Central Eurasian Studies on campus. In 2000, he rejoined the IUB Libraries in Twitter his current position. Facebook Page During much of this time Michael was also associated with the Lumbini International Franklin D. Schurz Library, IUSB Research Institute in Lumbini, Nepal. Twitter Facebook Page Throughout his career Michael remained an active scholar in his field, publishing articles and presenting at conferences. In 2009 Brill published his monograph, Buddhism and Empire : HathiTrust Digital Library the Political and Religious Culture of Early Tibet. He plans to continue his research interests Monthly Newsletters in retirement. Herman B Wells Library, IUB Michael’s expertise in cataloging and his knowledge of the area, including knowledge of Flicker several non-Western languages, benefitted the Libraries, it patrons, and the library world at Facebook Page large for many years. His cataloging responsibilities included materials in the Tibetan, Indic, Mongolian, and Turkic languages, as well as those in Russian. He became a nationally IU East Campus Library recognized cataloging authority for many of these languages. Facebook Page We wish him a happy and productive retirement! Fran has been the Stacks Manager for the Wells Library for 10 years, and previously worked in the Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Information Commons and Technical Services departments. During her time in the stacks Archives, IUPUI University Library office, Fran has overseen the transition of collections to ALF and managed many large-scale Twitter shifting projects resulting in stacks that are much neater than they were ten years ago! Facebook Page Fran wishes to thank everyone that she has worked with through the years as she has gotten Walter E. Helmke Library, IPFW to know many people who have influenced and helped her. Fran is looking forward to being Twitter free to come and go on her own schedule, with frequent trips to Florida and to visit family in Facebook Page New York.
