2004 -- S 2236 ======= LC01612 ======= STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2004 ____________ S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N CONGRATULATING THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ON WINNING THE SUPER BOWL Introduced By: Senators Celona, Tassoni, Blais, F Caprio, and Goodwin Date Introduced: February 04, 2004 Referred To: Senate held on desk 1 WHEREAS, In what may have been the greatest Super Bowl ever played, the New 2 England Patriots won their second NFL championship in three years; and 3 WHEREAS, In an thrilling game in which the lead changed hands frequently in the 4 second half, quarterback Tom Brady once again magically led New England on a game winning 5 scoring drive with time running out which was culminated by yet another clutch, game winning 6 field goal by kicker Adam Vinatieri; and 7 WHEREAS, New England, led by the innovative coaching and dynamic leadership of 8 Head Coach Bill Belichick, completed a fantastic season with a sterling record of 17-2 and an 9 astounding winning streak of 15 games. In any conversation of the greatest teams in NFL history, 10 the 2003 New England Patriots must be included in that discussion; and 11 WHEREAS, Besides Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady and the clutch kicking of Adam 12 Vinatieri, the Patriots were led all year by the best defense in the NFL. From Ty Law at 13 cornerback to Ted Washington at defensive tackle to defensive end Willie McGinest and 14 linebacker Ted Bruschi, the Patriots defense all year made it very difficult to score on them; and 15 WHEREAS, The Patriots offense consistently moved the ball and scored points when 16 necessary. They were led by an outstanding offensive line, dynamic receivers like Troy Brown, 17 David Givens and Deion Branch, and the tough running of Antowain Smith; now, therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations 19 hereby congratulates the New England Patriots on winning the Super Bowl, thanks them for 1 giving their fans and all of New England such an exciting season, and wishes them continued 2 success next year and beyond; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to 4 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to New England Patriots Head Coach Bill 5 Belichick. ======= LC01612 ======= 2 .
