of Magic Valley Thank you for your kindness, support and your unwavering belief in Magic Valley’s youth. Because of your contributions in 2017, we’ve impacted more lives, dreamed bigger dreams, fed more children and inspired more laughter and smiles. I am pleased to share the 2017 Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley annual report with you. The purpose of this publication is to acknowledge the many wonderful people and organizations who make great experiences possible for our Club kids. Together we have CHANGED LIVES. As an organization, we make a promise to our kids that we’ll be there every step of the way, from kindergarten through graduation. We believe every child deserves every opportunity to succeed, despite their circumstances. Our family of volunteers, board members, and staff work tirelessly to create a positive place where great futures begin. The CLUB EXPERIENCE we provide could not happen without the support and generosity of individuals, corporations and organizations in our community. It is our commitment to you that these investments are used efficiently and effectively to meet the true needs of our community and kids in a manner that is sustainable for future generations. On behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley, thank you for your support and dedication. Sincerely, Lindsey Westburg Gregg Middlekauff Executive Director OUR MISSION: To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. Jordyn, a senior at Twin Falls High School, started attending the Club as a shy six-year-old girl. She remembers the sounds throughout the Club, the dodge ball game in the gym, freeze dance in the games room, and so many new and unfamiliar faces. She was fearful that her shy personality would be exposed. Those feelings soon faded away when she was welcomed by staff Bri. The Club soon became her second home. Jordyn attended the Club until she was nine-years-old and then returned at fourteen. When she came back, she felt lost as a person. Her friends wanted her to be somebody she wasn't and her family wanted her to play sports. She was being pulled in a million different directions with no sense of who she was. When she applied to work as a Jr. Staff, Jordyn was quickly reminded of where she was meant to be. The Club gave her purpose and taught her she could be whoever she wanted to be. She gained confidence in who she is and learned to love others who aren’t exactly like her. Jordyn has found passion in being a member of Keystone Club, planning #WeOwnFridays and organizing her local SMART Girls conference. These opportunities have helped her engage in A special thank you to the Uhlig Foundation for their generous support of our Youth of the Year her community. Jordyn plans to attend the Program! I believe this provides for the growth of present and future responsible citizens. The emotional and social development takes a high priority in their programming, as well as respecting individual interests and values.” —Connie Jones, Grandparent WHO WE ARE The Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley served 3,000 youth in 2017 at our Twin Falls & Buhl locations. We realize our members have individual needs based on their age. During the school year, the most dangerous time for youth is between 3 and 6pm, Monday through Friday. These are the hours when they are most likely to be a victim or instigator of a crime. It is the time when they could be experimenting with drugs or engaging in risky behavior. The reason is simple: many parents work and a lot of teens have no structured place to go during non-school hours. We provide a variety of opportunities, responsibilities, and education for our members ages 13-18. Some of the FREE activities our teens get to participate in during the school year as well as summer include: Life Skills Career Exploration Disc Golf Weekly Teen Nights Community Service Kahn Coding Free Meals Fishing Robotics College Readiness DIY Projects Swimming Leadership Training Photography Geocaching Healthy Lifestyles Swimming Athletics Financial Literacy Gardening The Arts The 3rd annual SMART Girls Conference was held in November. The conference was designed for young ladies ages 11-18 and focused on empowering them to be their best selves. All of the girls were encouraged to bring their mom, guardian, aunt, grandma, or friend! The half-day conference had over 80 ladies in attendance. Our keynote speaker, Monique Middlekauff, started off the day leaving everyone feeling confident and empowered with her incredible speech.
