Welcome to CPAC! Welcome to the 2018-2019 season! This year we celebrate our 10th anniver- sary in the Community Performance and Art Center Theater as we kickoff with a landmark performance by country music legend Lacy J. Dalton. CPAC is pleased to bring back many favorites including the New Christy Minstrels, Sonoran Dogs, Robert Mirabal, Joe Bourne, Crystal Stark and the Luther College Concert Band. We will also feature many acts making their debut at CPAC including Grammy award winning True Concord, Tucson’s Gaslight Theater, Las Vegas Magician Fielding West, musician and come- dian Duncan Duck, Doo Wop Quartet The 4Gents, The Limeliters and New York ensemble Warp Trio. The 2018-2019 season incorporates an international flavor with perform- ances from Yo, Tucson and District Pipe Band, Odaiko Sonora and Vox Urbana. CPAC continues its ongoing partnerships with the Tucson Sym- phony Orchestra, The University of Arizona and Arizona Opera, which will stage a studio performance of Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte . CPAC and the Act 1 organization will once again join forces to facilitate educational matinee concerts for local school children. This season includes a fascinating film documentary about Arizona’s Ghost Towns and the Santa Cruz Shoestring Players will produce three classic theater pieces including the well-known Broadway Musical Guys and Dolls ! The season is complemented with several tributes to artists such as The Beatles, Glen Campbell, Frankie Valli, The Blues Brothers, Roy Orbison, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Eagles, The Righteous Brothers, The Beach Boys and many more. CPAC is proud to offer numerous visual arts classes, exhibits and other community events, as well as serving as the home to multiple local perform- ing ensembles and social gatherings. Ronstadt, nephew of Linda Ronstadt, and great grandson of Federico Jose Maria Ronstadt, aims to explore the musical heritage of his family while presenting new and original material. Along with his band of Tucsonans, Los Tucsonenses, Petie paints a musical picture of the American Southwest by pre- senting music from the region, music from Mexico, collected favorites, songs of his father, and new songs that draw inspiration from all the elements of his upbringing. With a lush tapestry of instruments along with unique arrangements, enjoy an evening while Petie and Los Tucsonenses take you on a musical journey that will lift spirits and stir memories. She has been a member of many jazz, rock, world, and classical groups and has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Having re- corded four albums of jazz, original and renaissance music as band leader, she also regularly adds her flute and vocals on re- cordings as a studio musician. Listeners remark on her ability to create an emotional resonance for them, charming and enriching them with beauty and passion. Not only does Tess improvise on flute and sing, she also performs on guitar and cello. You’ll hear jazz standards and originals as well as songs in French, Spanish, Portuguese a la Edith Piaf, Juan Tizol and Antonio Carlos Jobim! The band is led by Richard Blickenstaff, who has been a fixture in the Tucson jazz scene for several decades. HEARTBREAK HOTEL: A SALUTE TO EARLY ELVIS Lonely Street Productions Wednesday, August 8 th at 7:00PM Tickets: $25 in advance – $30 at door Elvis comes to Green Valley, commemorating the 41 st anniver- sary of The King’s passing. This critically acclaimed concert production features the early music of Elvis, belting out hits from the first part of his career, in the mid-1950's through the early 60's. Starring Robert Shaw and the Lonely Street Band, the show kicks off with Elvis' first recordings at Sun Records in Memphis ("That's All Right, Mama," "Good Rockin' Tonight"), through his chart topping years at RCA records (Dont' Be Cruel," "Hound Dog"), and even highlighting the King's hits from his first movies ("Jailhouse Rock," "Love Me Tender"). To-Ree-Nee Wolf is an internationally acclaimed award-winning artist, singer, song writer and actor. Having recently finished a sold out run as the lead in “Black Pearl Sings!” at Invisible Thea- tre, she brings a wealth of creativity and artistic expression to every project she is involved with.

    Mike & Marcie Campbell Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Wife Marcie ‘Won’t Back Down for the Animals’ By Melissa Maroff If life mirrors song, Mike Campbell “got lucky babe” when he found his wife Marcie. Before he went on to fame as lead guitarist for one of the world’s greatest rock bands, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Mike met Marcie -- literally because of a dog. It was in 1974 at an LA Halloween party where Marcie brought her dog Medena; Mike mistakenly called Medena “Daisy,” the name of the host’s dog. Marcie had to set him straight -- and the rest as they say, is rock and roll history. “I connected with the dog and then found out the dog came with her,” Mike says. “If it weren’t for the dog, we probably wouldn’t have met.” And for two dog lovers it was “something very good from the get go,” they admit. After 34 years of marriage, the love is still strong, which is evident the minute you see them together. They compliment each other; both have a sense of humor, don’t take themselves too seriously and love their family, which extends to their animal family -- and other animals as well. Mike Campbell has a resume that speaks for itself. In addition to playing on and co- producing Tom Petty and The Heatbreakers albums and co-writing some of their biggest hits, he has also co-penned other classics like Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around (Petty’s duet with Stevie Nicks) and Don Henley’s iconic Boys of Summer, which ranks among Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

While not the first band to have two smash hits right out of the box, they may be the only group who pro- ceeded to then fail miserably with their next ten sin- gles over a three-year period before finally achieving immortality with an album, Odessey [sic] and Oracle (1968) and a single, “Time of the Season,” that were released only after they had broken up. Even then, it would be a year after the album’s ini- tial release that, through the intercession of fate and Tthe idiosyncratic tastes of a handful of radio listeners in Boise, Idaho, “Time of the Season” would become a million-selling single and remain one of the most beloved staples of classic-rock radio to this day. Even more ironic was the fact that, despite that hit single, the album Odessey and Oracle was still met with indif- ference. Decades later, succeeding generations of crit- ics and an ever-growing cult fan base raised Odessey and Oracle to its status as one of the most cherished and revered albums of late 1960s British rock. As the album approached its fiftieth anniversary, four of the five original Zombies (guitarist Paul Atkinson passed away in 2004) went on tour, playing it in its entirety for sellout crowds throughout North America and the United Kingdom.
