BBC's 2020 Religious Easter Programming Announced St Germans Group Parish news We are offering a service of Compline at 6pm from tomorrow Palm Sunday to Wednesday 8th April inclusive. The servcies will be ‘live’ via Zoom and I will send out the links via email and a copy of the service for that day. I have included in the envelopes posted through people’s doors the order of service for each day so that those who do not want or are unable to go on line can read it themselves at 6pm and be joined in the spirit with the rest of the parish - if you wish. We are also asking you what you would like us to do as the parish ministers in the way of daily services, daily prayers, meditations, suggestions for solo worship etc., whilst this isolation period lasts. Can you think on this and let Revd Lynn or David, Richard or me know so that we can continue to work closely as a parish and worship and pray together in the way you would like……? News from the Diocese AT 11am on Sunday, the people of Cornwall are being invited to take part in a shared moment of prayer, by coming to their doorsteps or to an open window, and saying the Lord’s Prayer. At 10.45am on Palm Sunday, BBC One will broadcast a service from Hereford Cathedral which was recorded before the current level of restrictions was in place. Television and Radio Easter Programmes For details of the BBC’s Easter programming, see below - there are some interesting, uplifting, reflective, amusing and thought-provoking programmes planned for television and on the radio. BBC’s 2020 religious Easter programming announced Date: 27.03.2020 Last updated: 01.04.2020 at 10.14 Category: BBC One; BBC Two; Radio 2; Radio 3; Radio 4; Factual; Commissioning; BBC Studios The BBC’s religious programming over Easter 2020 will offer a rich mix of brand new and live content across its TV and radio channels, to mark the celebrated Christian holiday and provide companionship, shared experiences and a sense of connection to the outside world for all. Daisy Scalchi, Commissioning Editor BBC Factual, says: “From our specially-recorded worship programmes reflecting the unusual times we face, to brand new series celebrating this special time of year, the variety of religious content on offer means there will be something for everyone this Easter on BBC TV.” Christine Morgan, Head of Radio Religion & Ethics, says: “Our 2020 Easter programming on BBC radio offers everything from a spectacular Good Friday concert with spiritual and traditional music on Radio 2, to a special Easter Sunday edition of clerical shoptalk from the Three Vicars on Radio 4. Our aim is to uplift our listeners throughout this important time of year during such unprecedented circumstances." Starting from Good Friday, Easter on BBC One sees a brand new religious programme launch, Heavenly Gardens (main picture). This new two-part series sees former chorister and garden lover Alexander Armstrong, along with garden designer Arit Anderson, visit six spectacular gardens across the United Kingdom, which are all steeped in faith and spirituality. Also on Good Friday, the concluding episode of Pilgrimage: The Road To Istanbul on BBC Two follows the seven well-known pilgrims on the final leg of their journey along an ancient military route to the historic city of Istanbul, which has been transformed into a modern-day path of peace. Airing across the weekend, Easter From King’s on BBC Two sees music and readings from the fan-vaulted Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, with the world-famous choir singing some of the best-loved choral music for the season. On Easter Sunday a special edition of Sunday Worship will air on BBC One, with an Easter service coming from Bangor Cathedral in Wales, led by the Dean of Bangor, the Very Reverend Kathy Jones. And on BBC One, Urbi et Orbi will show Pope Francis deliver his Easter Message and Blessing live from Rome. On BBC radio, Dan Walker brings an assortment of spiritual and traditional music to Radio 2 on Good Friday with At the Foot Of The Cross, recorded at Maida Vale Studios, which also features a dramatic retelling of the crucifixion by author Frank Cottrell-Boyce. The Three Vicars are back on Radio 4 on Easter Sunday for a special episode of Three Vicars Talking, with the Revs Richard Coles, Kate Bottley and Giles Fraser talking all things Easter, from Ash Wednesday through to the Resurrection. Elsewhere, the Archbishop of Canterbury leads Radio 4's Easter Sunday Worship, and Prayer of the Day will continue throughout Easter, broadcasting a range of multi-faith contributors and reflecting on the mood of the moment. During the Coronavirus crisis, as previously announced, we have launched a virtual church service on Sunday mornings across local radio in England, led initially by the Archbishop of Canterbury. In addition, we are broadcasting a weekly Sunday morning church service on BBC One and are exploring how to support other religions and denominations across television and radio, including in the run-up to Ramadan. Further details will be announced shortly. Heavenly Gardens BBC One Britain’s love affair with sacred gardens is ancient; these glorious spaces represent hope and expectation and have long been spiritual places that can have a profound impact on our heart and soul. To celebrate Good Friday and Easter Sunday this year, former chorister and garden lover, Alexander Armstrong, along with garden designer Arit Anderson, visit six spectacular gardens steeped in faith and spirituality. These beautiful landscapes are bursting with new life that symbolise beauty, joy and hope. From The Bishop’s Palace in Somerset to Pluscarden Abbey in the Highlands of Scotland; from Cambridge University’s stunning Botanic Garden to Alnwick Castle’s newly transformed garden in Northumberland; from Scone Palace’s gardens of kings in Perthshire to Sudeley Castle’s sacred connections in the Cotswolds, Alexander and Arit celebrate the significance of gardens in the Easter story itself. They will get hands on in these sacred places, meeting the custodians of these glorious gardens to pick up gardening tips and discover the very special and surprising spiritual significance of each place. Alexander Armstrong says: “I’ve always loved gardens. They’re beautiful places to enjoy plants, flowers, fruits and nature’s changing seasons. Most of all though, for me, they’re spiritual retreats from the modern world. This is a dream programme for me, celebrating some of the UK’s most sacred gardens and meeting the amazing people whose physical and spiritual lives are intertwined in them.” Heavenly Gardens (2x60') with Alexander Armstrong was commissioned by Carla-Maria Lawson, Head of BBC Daytime and Early Peak, and is a Tern TV production. The BBC Commissioning Editor is Daisy Scalchi and it is Executive Produced for Tern TV by Harry Bell. Building on previous theories of banter, I suggest that the composite nature of the phenomenon can usefully be analysed within an interactional pragmatic model, such as that proposed by Lecercle (1999). Using this model to analyse various episodes of Pointless, I seek to demonstrate that banter is created within a dynamic interpersonal process.

Bert Tyler Moore Writer Bert's stage play THE WINDSORS: ENDGAME will open at Prince of Wales Theatre this summer. The show is produced by Runaway Entertainment and stars Harry Enfield. Bert is currently writing and is a Consulting Producer on the second season of Britbox’s reboot of the iconic satirical show SPITTING IMAGE, produced by Avalon, after having worked on the first season. He is developing original projects with Various Artists Ltd, Working Title TV, Genial Productions and Noho Film & Television. For many years Bert was in a writing partnership with the late George Jeffrie, who sadly passed away in September 2020. Together, they created and wrote three long running series: THE WINDSORS, which was BAFTA nominated and returned in spring 2020 for its third series; cult hit PETE VERSUS LIFE starring Rafe Spall; and STAR STORIES which won a British Comedy Award and was twice BAFTA nominated. Bert and George began writing on the classic sketch shows BIG TRAIN and ARMSTRONG AND MILLER and have written sketches for countless others including SMACK THE PONY, HARRY AND PAUL, THAT MITCHELL AND WEBB LOOK and MONKEY DUST. The highlight though was surely creating the character of ‘Lord Hollywood’ for George Clooney on ITV’s charity DOWNTON ABBEY spoof. (They were not allowed on set). The pair wrote for a host of entertainment shows including THE KUMARS AT NO.42, THE DAME EDNA EVERAGE TREATMENT, SLAP BANG WITH ANT AND DEC, ALAN CARR: CHATTY MAN AND THIS IS DOM JOLY. AR:MSTRONGS OF THE CATAHBA a genealogical history Compiled by Norma Todd Cansler B & H Printing and Letter Service Dallas 1969 Copyright, 1969, by Norma Todd Cansler Printed in the United States All Rights Reserved FOREHORD This compilation, incomplete as it is, assembles the largest collective body of information to be published to date on descendants of the Armstrong family of the Catawba Creek branch of the James River area in Colonial Virginia. It is hoped that others will continue the research in depth, adding to knowledge of the pioneer family as well as completing some of the lines. The volume addresses itself not only to descendants but to persons of other lines engaged in genealogical search. It seeks to record for present and future generations a collection of family letters, Bible records, newspaper clippings, court records of deeds, wills and marriages, and cemetery inscriptions. In some cases it will provide a glimpse of community life to those interested in the history of the particular localities. These are the facts as we have been able to ascertain them. How little they convey of the lives of those who have gone on before us. I am grateful to dozens of descendants who have shared information. In parti cular I 1Jould express appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth B. McAfee, Evanston, Illinois, for making available to me the unpublished genealogical journal of Rev. Samuel L. JvicAfee, D. D. (1841-1917-+). Mrs. J. H. Langford, Harrodsburg, Kentucky, who is descended from three of the children of John and Priscilla Armstrong, was very helpful in providing information on those branches.
