Message from the National President April 28, 2020

Due to continuing concerns regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 National Meeting in New Orleans is canceled.

The National Executive Council met last night and unanimously voted per our bylaws to cancel the national meeting. Concerns for everyone’s health and safety was the primary reason for this decision. However, we also considered the lack of opportunities for chapters to raise funds, possible travel restrictions, and the likely participation rates. We had an opportunity to cancel the meeting with no financial loss to the fraternity. We felt that the money that would be spent on the meeting by each of you and by the fraternity can be best used elsewhere.

Moving forward we need to take several steps to ensure that smooth operations of the national fraternity.

1. We will return all registration fees collected for the 2020 National Meeting. 2. We will begin to plan the 2022 National Chapter Meeting. 3. Under the advice of our parliamentarian, all bylaw submissions will be held for the 2022 National Meeting. Our bylaws do not allow us to meet virtually and conduct business as a national chapter. 4. We will hold elections for national officers in June. You will receive more information regarding this. 5. We will present the annual and biennial awards at a virtual awards ceremony in July to present national awards. 6. We will host an online workshop in August about virtual chapter activities. 7. We will continue to succeed as an organization.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Please stay safe.

Sincerely,

Gary Hodge National President Life Member

7 SPRING 2020 Zeta Eta As far as being #PCTstrong, one idea that we’re currently working on is finding opportunities to support our members who have had their internship offers revoked. Our active professional development committee is focusing on finding opportunities for members to stay occupied over the summer. We may not be able to find other intern opportunities, but we can at least find opportunities for our members to grow through coding certifications, CRM trainings, and classes. - Zeta Eta Zeta Mu As the President of the Zeta Mu Chapter at , it has been a great learning experience on how to navigate these trying times. While we didn’t know our last chapter meeting was going to be our last, our brothers and sisters have worked together to assist each other and stay connected during this time. Our executive team has worked to find a solution to conduct chapter meetings regularly. We found that synchronous live chapter wasn’t feasible since many of our members have moved back to different states, and even different countries. We chose to go with a pre-recorded format including regular chapter announcements and updates, presentations from our executive team and various committees, and presentations from our pledges. This allows our members Zeta Omicron to watch chapter when it is convenient for them and gives them the opportunity to We will be implementing a points system re-watch if they would like. 16 Chapter Updates

With philanthropy in particular, Alpha Iota maintains a strong presence at Penn State’s THON, a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon that fundraises for families impacted by childhood cancer, as well as critical research. We represent our 3 THON families: The Atterberry’s, the Mazur’s, and the Smith’s. Although Savion Atterberry and Jackie Mazur are sadly no longer with us, we dance in their honor with Leiland Smith, who went into remission about 2 years ago. For THON 2020, our chapter was able to raise over $113,000, which not only broke our fundraising goal, but contributed to the $11.6 million raised by Penn State to fight childhood cancer! We are so proud to be part of something bigger than us and represent an organization that weighs so heavily on giving back to the community.

17 SPRING 2020 Alpha Iota ~ Continued

Alpha Mu This semester, Phi Chi Theta – Alpha Mu brothers and sisters had the opportunity to travel to Chevy Chase, Maryland and tour the headquarters of JBG Smith, the largest landlord in the Washington D.C. area. Alumna Avani Katta gave a presentation to attendees introducing the topic of Real Estate Finance, and how to learn about Real Estate Finance within UMD’s undergraduate business program.

Being that most members in attendance had little background in Real Estate Finance, the visit was so insightful to hear more about the field from an alumni firsthand. JBG Smith also is the landlord company partnering with Amazon in preparation for its upcoming second headquarters opening in Crystal City, Virginia. This provided a real-world example of the impact Real Estate Finance has in the DMV area. In addition to industry Q&A, brothers and sisters were able to have a candid conversation on transitioning into the workforce from Avani. Being that she is the youngest member of the JBG Smith Chevy Chase office, the discussion was extremely relatable since Avani had recently been in the same position as Alpha Mu members that attended.

18 Alpha Omega

Phi Chi Theta Alpha Omega’s Spring 2020 recruitment consisted of two weeks of events that allowed our chapter to connect to the students on campus! From January 28th to February 7th, the brothers and sisters of Phi Chi Theta were able to meet the bright and exciting minds of . Here I have included images from two of the events that we had hosted during recruitment: ‘Smore’s Night’ and Professional Night! One event that consisted of deep conversations between rushes and brothers and another that consisted of a night of professional workshopping and resume critique!

The theme for recruitment this semester was to “Discover Your Journey”, with all of our décor and promotional content being based around mountains and continuously climbing up. In other words, Phi Chi Theta Alpha Omega wanted to collectively foster a sense of empowerment and positivity among rushes and members both. This entire experience was extremely fulfilling and motivating on the members’ parts in that we were able to connect with so many diverse students on Rutgers campus. When asked about Spring 2020 Recruitment, VP of Events Nikhil Sadaranganey stated, “Rush was an amazing way to meet new people and help bring our members and our mission to the broader Rutgers community, especially since our external team expanded our events to multiple campuses.” To conclude, Phi Chi Theta Alpha Omega values itself on its recruitment seasons! Being able to connect with the diverse personalities that Rutgers has to offer and learn more about what our campus has to offer is something we truly pride ourselves in.

19 SPRING 2020 Beta Chi

In the fall semester of 2019, Beta Chi packed and delivered Christmas bags to the children who attend Northwest Head Start. Head Start provides early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services, giving attendance preference to children with disabilities or low-income children and families. A member of our chapter saw that there was a need for winter wear and Christmas gifts for the children and brought it to our attention. In the gift bags we packed gloves, socks, hats and toys. Right before finals a group of Beta Chi members hand delivered these gifts to the children. It was so gratifying to see the children’s delight in receiving these gifts. It was an honor to be a help to our local community and experience we will never forget.

20 Beta Theta

The Phi Chi Theta Beta Theta Chapter of Sam Houston State University has jumped off the spring semester to an awesome start. Recently a few members from the chapter volunteered at a local hand me up shop where they moved furniture, helped clean the shop, and kept a great attitude the entire time. Each of the members put on their helping hands and enjoyed this volunteer event very much. The owner of the hand me up shop even invited the chapter back to volunteer once again as well because of their hard work.

21 SPRING 2020 Epsilon Phi

The Epsilon Phi Chapter is full of motivated individuals who work toward a common goal. “PCT has been such a welcoming community of students. I was a little intimidated by the sheer size of MSU’s campus when I first arrived. Joining PCT has ‘shrunk’ the campus a bit and has given me a group I can feel a part of, with members that have the same mindset and aspirations as I do,” said Sophomore and Internal Relations Chairman, Jamie Wendel. Through our various professional development opportunities, volunteering throughout the community, and fun chapter events, our members are able to develop both personally and professionally. Ski Trip Weekend In February, our chapter spent some time together at a ski resort in Bellaire, Michigan. This trip was a great way for our active members to bond with the new pledge class, and forge new friendships. “Ski trip really brings us together as a fraternity. Our group had the chance to spend some time together on the slopes, whether it was tubing, snowboarding, or skiing. It was an amazing opportunity to plan the trip this year, and it was great to spend time with PCT,” said Sophomore and Social Committee Chairman, Catherine Manceor. This trip is a great way for the chapter to get to know the new pledge class, and truly welcome them to the fraternity. Valentine’s Day Pillow Making This semester, our members had the opportunity to put together heart-shaped pillows for the Lansing McLaren Health Hospice Group. This was a great way for our members to get involved within the Greater Lansing area and bring comfort to patients during Valentine’s Day. “I think this event was such an amazing why for the Fraternity to step back from our personal lives or school lives and give to those around us who are experiencing something that can be scary or full of discomfit. As well as adding our own personal message on the pillows allowed the patients to know someone was thinking of them. I think it also made a lot of us feel really thankful for the people we have in our lives and the privileges we experience each day,” says Junior and Service Committee Chairman, Josie Miller.

22 Zeta Eta

This past month was an exhilarating and busy one for Zeta Eta! There was an excellent turnout for our first philanthropy event. Active members volunteered at Winter Bash with Big Brothers Big Sisters. At the booth, actives helped the children make snowflakes out of paper.

In addition to the first philanthropy event, Phi Chi Theta also hosted a meeting with one of the recruiters from Macy’s. The session was hosted online, and the attendees were able to learn more about working in retail.

To finish out the month, Phi Chi Theta had their second philanthropy event with SCCAP (South Central Community Action Program). The active members of Phi Chi Theta cooked spaghetti and served it to the youth volunteers and community in the SCCAP program. Lots of people came to the meal, and the active members were able to meet and learn more about the people involved with SCCAP.

23 SPRING 2020 Zeta Phi The Zeta Phi Chapter of Phi Chi Theta is successfully in the works of its second full semester. We are so excited to celebrate our first anniversary on April 12, and although we cannot celebrate together, we are keeping all of our brothers and sisters in mind. It has been an amazing year of growth, bonding, and networking. We thank all of the other chapters for their welcoming of us, and to our Regional Director Lizbeth Juarez, and to Saundra Finley, for answering all of our questions.

Our newest addition to our chapter is the Gamma Class. Thirteen members strong, they are finishing up their pledge period and will be initiated first thing this Fall. Each new member has received their big, and we are looking forward to fully welcoming them to the chapter. We had our second successful recruitment this spring, and are looking forward to our next one in the fall.

This semester our philanthropy event was planned to be Charleston Miracle Network’s Dance Marathon, Cougarthon, however due to the effects of COVID-19, the event was cancelled. Our chapter raised $2,259 from 41 donations, and we are excited to keep working with the organization in the future, for the kids! We also hosted a bake sale for a local charity, One80 Place, an organization that works to end and prevent homelessness, one person at a time.

On a professional level, this semester Zeta Phi hosted guest speaker Dan Dunlop, who is the principal and co-owner of Jennings & Company, a healthcare marketing agency. He spoke to us about marketing and branding ourselves, and opened our eyes to a different side of business. We were planning on having more guest speakers this semester, however as our plans have changed, we will be hosting our first virtual guest speaker this Monday, Tobias Hoppe. We are very excited to try out this technology for our chapter, and hopefully will be able to use it again in the future.

24 Zeta Phi ~ Continued

One unique social event that our chapter held this year was a PCT Bowling Night. The majority of our members attended and it was a fantastic way to start off the new year! In addition to bowling night, our chapter hosted a cookout where our new members found out who their big’s were and met some of their older brothers and sisters. Our members admired socializing with everyone and enjoyed eating catered food from one of Charleston’s best BBQ places.

Despite ending the semester early due to COVID-19, the Zeta Phi Chapter of PCT has had a wonderful start to 2020. Since the beginning of the year and our addition of new members, it has contributed to more ambition and passion towards PCT than ever before. While it is unfortunate that our chapter will no longer be able to meet face-to-face for the remainder of the semester, our members continue to show motivation within their committees and have already begun planning for next semester. Chapter will host its first fully-digital Chapter meeting through Microsoft Teams on Monday, April 6th and we are drafting digital options to further engagement throughout the semester. So far, the chapter has partaken in digital activities together such as Jackbox games, weekly meetings on Microsoft Teams, and we are working on various digital philanthropy & professional development activities to implement (e.g. COVID-19 relief fundraiser, remote workshops, and mock trading competitions). 29 Zeta Xi After an exciting recruitment season the Zeta Xi chapter kicked off our Spring 2020 semester with nine new members. Our chapter continues to engage in service, social and professional events that have long been enjoyed by our brothers and sisters. Every Monday members head over to Calvin Community Home to play bingo with our favorite residents who are always excited to hear about all everything going on at Drake University. Weekend professional visits also continue to be successful with Zeta Xi visiting with many major corporations in downtown Des Moines, such as our recent visit at Raygun with its founder and CEO Mike Draper. Most importantly, our chapter has continued to strengthen our bond as a fraternity through a variety of both on and off campus social events. This semester, we continue some of our favorite on campus events, like the spicy food challenge, while trying out some new off campus events like our trip to Smash Park. Looking forward, Zeta Xi begins to plan for another successful recruitment as well as some exciting new bylaw changes!

30 SPRING 2020 Dallas Alumni Dallas Alumni joined up to serve the community by volunteering together at Feed My Starving Children. They are a nonprofit group dedicated to fighting hunger all over the world.

From their website: “Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and undernutrition. Hunger is still causing nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old. From this data, we estimate at least 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition. This is heartbreaking.

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) believes hope starts with food. As a Christian nonprofit, FMSC is dedicated to seeing every child whole in body and spirit. FMSC works with food distribution partners that stay with communities for the long haul, empowering them to move from relief to development.

FMSC meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition. Nutrition allows children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential.

Our process is simple. Donations given by people just like you fund the meal ingredients. Volunteers hand-pack the meals. Meals are donated to FMSC food partners around the world, where kids are fed and lives are saved!”
