The National Executive Council met last night and unanimously voted per our bylaws to cancel the national meeting. Concerns for everyone’s health and safety was the primary reason for this decision. However, we also considered the lack of opportunities for chapters to raise funds, possible travel restrictions, and the likely participation rates. We had an opportunity to cancel the meeting with no financial loss to the fraternity. We felt that the money that would be spent on the meeting by each of you and by the fraternity can be best used elsewhere. Moving forward we need to take several steps to ensure that smooth operations of the national fraternity. 1. We will return all registration fees collected for the 2020 National Meeting. 2. We will begin to plan the 2022 National Chapter Meeting. 3. Under the advice of our parliamentarian, all bylaw submissions will be held for the 2022 National Meeting. Our bylaws do not allow us to meet virtually and conduct business as a national chapter. 4. We will hold elections for national officers in June. You will receive more information regarding this. 5. We will present the annual and biennial awards at a virtual awards ceremony in July to present national awards. 6. We will host an online workshop in August about virtual chapter activities. 7. We will continue to succeed as an organization. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Please stay safe. Our active professional development committee is focusing on finding opportunities for members to stay occupied over the summer. We may not be able to find other intern opportunities, but we can at least find opportunities for our members to grow through coding certifications, CRM trainings, and classes. - Zeta Eta Zeta Mu As the President of the Zeta Mu Chapter at Miami University, it has been a great learning experience on how to navigate these trying times. While we didn’t know our last chapter meeting was going to be our last, our brothers and sisters have worked together to assist each other and stay connected during this time. Our executive team has worked to find a solution to conduct chapter meetings regularly. We found that synchronous live chapter wasn’t feasible since many of our members have moved back to different states, and even different countries. We chose to go with a pre-recorded format including regular chapter announcements and updates, presentations from our executive team and various committees, and presentations from our pledges. This allows our members Zeta Omicron to watch chapter when it is convenient for them and gives them the opportunity to We will be implementing a points system re-watch if they would like.
