Co-organisers of the conference are EUPHA and the Société Française de Santé Publique (SFSP). EPH CONFERENCE FOUNDATION The mission of the EPH Conference Foundation is to contribute to promoting greater health and well-being for the population in Europe by organising scientific conferences on public health in Europe on an annual basis. The conferences bring together public health professionals, researchers, education and training specialists and policy makers from across Europe and beyond to develop new thinking and find meaningful solutions for future health challenges. In organising the conference programme, the EPH Conference Foundation works together in partnership with a wide array of international public health organisations. Over the years, the EPH Conferences, which started as EUPHA Conferences more than 25 years ago, have grown into the largest annual public health event in Europe. EUPHA EUPHA is an umbrella organisation for national (public) health associations in Europe. EUPHA is an international, multidisciplinary, scientific organisation, bringing together around 20,000 public health experts from all European countries. EUPHA unites 41 national associations of public health and 25 institutional members from 47 countries. EUPHA aims to be a leading scientific and independent voice in the field of public health and health services by building capacity and knowledge in the field of public health and health services and by supporting practice and policy decisions through scientific evidence. EUPHA is dedicated to working in partnership with European and international intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations as well as with national institutes and organisations that are aligned with EUPHA's values and commitment to improve current and future health in Europe. In 2019, EUPHA has set up partnerships with 14 international organisations. SOCIÉTÉ FRANÇAISE DE SANTÉ PUBLIQUE (SFSP) The origins of the French Society of Public Health (SFSP) date back to 1877. In that year, the Society of Public Medicine and Professional Hygiene held its first regular meeting under the presidency of Apollinaire Bouchardat, pharmacist and doctor, in Paris. Since then, the Society was known under several successive names that reflect the evolution of public health as a discipline throughout the twentieth century. It is known as French Society for Public Health (SFSP) since 1992. Today, the French Society for Public Health brings together about 50 organizations and 500 individuals from all fields of public health. It offers an open space for many disciplines for collective and inter-professional reflection. This reflection is based in particular on the critical analysis of scientific facts and professional practices. It makes it possible to formulate proposals for the decision-makers and, through the media, to enlighten the public opinion on the stakes of the health policies, the strengths and the weaknesses of their implementation. 2 WELCOME TO MARSEILLE 2019 We are very pleased to welcome you to the 12th European Public Health Conference in Marseille. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Building bridges for solidarity and public health’. Marseille has for centuries been one of the pillars of the cultural and economic bridge across the Mediterranean. For millenniums, people have been crossing the Mediterranean but, in recent years, that journey has been characterized by tragedies among those fleeing oppression and poverty. The Marseille conference offers an opportunity to build new bridges: of working together between the public health communities in Europe and Africa and of seeking solutions to our shared challenges as inhabitants of a small planet now facing global threats, from climate change, emerging infections, and the global epidemic of non-communicable diseases. As a consequence, the focus will be on answering the following questions: • What can we do to reduce the need for people to move and how can we protect and support those who are forced to move? • What can we do to provide health promoting and protecting environments for migrants in Europe? • How can be build bridges between different professions and communities as a means to implement the Sustainable Development Goals? • What will be the future of public health in Europe? Where should we go from here? How do we ensure health-in-all EU policies? Through our Marseille Statement, the public health community gathered in Marseille, calls upon national and international decision makers to intensify efforts to build bridges for solidarity in public health. LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND The ‘health for all’ principle, undersigned by all countries in the European region, identifies access to healthcare as a basic human right for everyone. Governments must be held accountable for providing healthcare to asylum seekers and undocumented migrants. More concretely, no one seeking asylum or without appropriate documentation should die or be put in danger by limited or no access to healthcare. TRANSLATING KNOWLEDGE On a policy level, the emergence of the anti-science movement and anti-immigration sentiment risk is undermining our health policies. Science is increasingly criticised and ignored by parts of society, and achievements made in health are negatively impacted. This under- mining of science needs to be halted. At the same time, societies are exposed to anti-immigration sentiments. Both developments could lead to politically coloured health policies that increase health inequities for migrants. In translating health research and knowledge to policy and advocacy, we need to create a narrative that supports our vision for more health equity. With the help of our partners, presenters, we offer you an exciting programme of workshops, oral and pitch presentations and poster walks. Our exhibitors are there to show you their latest projects, products and services. This is taking place in the multicultural setting of Marseille, giving you the possibility to share information, knowledge and innovative ideas with your colleagues from Europe and across the globe. • Smarthealthsystems International Comparison of Digital Strategies
#SmartHealthSystems International comparison of digital strategies Health System Comparison Focus Digitalization #SmartHealthSystems International comparison of digital strategies Part I: International Benchmarking and Digital Health Index Part II: Success criteria and utilisation rates of digital applications – Comparative country study Part III: Analysis and Transferability Authors Rainer Thiel, Lucas Deimel, Daniel Schmidtmann, Klaus Piesche, Tobias Hüsing, Jonas Rennoch, Veli Stroetmann, Karl Stroetmann November 2018 #SmartHealthSystems Foreword The so-called Lipobay scandal can be considered a trigger for a political decision: As early as 2003, the German federal government at the time initiated the development of the electronic health card. The card was intended to help improve healthcare and to make it safer – possible drug interactions were to be identified before they can occur. It was hoped that the German healthcare system would then receive a modern IT infra- structure and become an international pioneer in e-health. Today, we have to say that this project has not been successful. At least not for the time being. While in other countries, the most important patient data is stored in electronic health records and prescriptions already have been digitally transmitted for several years, Germany is still working on the basics of digital health networks and is mainly exchanging information on paper. While we are talking about the application of intelligent algorithms on a theoretical level in Germany, these have long been in use in Israel for the early detec- tion of cancer, for example. Not surprisingly, the Digital Health Index developed in the context of this study shows that the German healthcare system is lagging far behind in terms of digitalization: In an inter- national comparison, Germany is ranked 16th out of 17 countries surveyed.

  • Last Supper for King Francis I; a Masterpiece in Gold and Silk
Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper for King Francis I; a masterpiece in gold and silk CHÂTEAU DU CLOS LUCÉ PARC LEONARDO DA VINCI Exhibition from 7th June to 8th September 2019 THE VATICAN MUSEUMS THUS PAY TRIBUTE TO LEONARDO’S GENIUS An historic loan from the Vatican Museums Barbara Jatta, Director of the Vatican Museums The Vatican Museums are taking part in the fifth-centenary celebrations of Leonardo da Vinci’s death during 2019 with various initiatives. This exhibition on the precious Vatican tapestry of The Last Supper at the Château de Clos Lucé in Amboise is perhaps the most representative of these but also of the multifaceted activities carried out today in the Vatican Museums, encompassing research, restoration and collaboration with various institutions at a range of levels. The papal museums thus pay tribute to Leonardo’s genius. It was a pleasure and an honour to enter into contact with the French institutions and thus resume a relationship that dates back to 1533, when the renowned tapestry, sumptuously woven in silk with silver and gold thread and a border of crimson velvet, was presented to Clement VII by François I of France on the occasion of the marriage of his son and heir Henry of Valois and the Pope’s niece Catherine de’ Medici. The ceremony was performed by Clement VII himself with all due pomp in Marseille in the autumn of 1533. The tapestry, whose origin and provenance have been the object of hypotheses and conjectures, is still so shrouded in mystery that it has even proved impossible to identify the workshop involved.

EVIDENCES FROM ITALIAN CONTEXT ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to investigate the main drivers of a start-up evolution in its development stages. In particular, our attention is focused on the role of relationships in the different evolutionary phases of a start-up and the impact of relationships on the business model. The entrepreneur’s perspective has been for long considered the critical success factor for the start- up genesis and business models. Differently from previous works focused on entrepreneur and entrepreneurial ability to manage social relationships, this paper investigates the perspective of business relationships in different stages of start-up life cycle. The paper presents an in depth qualitative analysis based on two innovative Italian start-ups. The findings show the emergence of interconnected relationships that allow a start up to access to different kind of resources in order to develop its business. This process of evolution requires a network embedded business model that suggests start-ups to consider users’ needs and preferences, as well as the relevant role of different business partners. Keywords: start-up life cycle, network embedded business model, capabilities, network competence, business relationships, ARA model COMPETITIVE PAPER 1 INTRODUCTION For a long time, researchers have investigated the evolution of start-ups based on their traditional life cycle models. Among these, the Greiner’s Model (1972) depicts the growth of the firm and its ability to develop, in different stages, the following consequential strategies: creativity, direction, delegation and co-operation.
