The Jews – Teachers of the Nazis?
Jan-Erik Ebbestad Hansen (Oslo) über: The Jews – Teachers of the Nazis? Anti-Semitism in Norwegian Anthroposophy Abstract This article is an investigation, from the perspective of the history of ideas, of the view that central Norwegian anthroposophists took of Jews and Judaism from the interwar period to the period shortly after the Second World War. A central element of the investigation is the demonstration that Norwegian anthroposophists had an anti- Semitic understanding of Judaism and that they considered Judaism as the negative counterpart to Germanentum and Deutschtum. An introductory contextualizing section of this paper gives an account of Rudolf Steiner’s definition of Judaism and of the decisive influence he had on the Norwegian anthroposophists. Steiner’s view of Jews is defined as assimilationist anti-Semitism. Secondly, there will be a description of the principal characteristics of the Norwegian Germanentum and anti-Semitism in this period.1 Zusammenfassung Dieser Artikel untersucht aus ideengeschichtlicher Perspektive die Sichtweise, die norwegische Anthroposophen in der Zeit zwischen den Weltkriegen bis kurz nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg auf Juden und das Judentum hatten. Ein zentraler Punkt dieser Untersuchung ist zu zeigen, dass norwegische Anthroposophen eine antisemitische Auffassung vom Judentum hatten und Judentum als negatives Gegenstück zum Germanentum oder Deutschtum verstanden. Im einführenden Abschnitt zur Kontextualisierung wird neben Rudolf Steiners Definition von Judentum der große Einfluss geschildert, den er auf die norwegischen Anthroposophen hatte. Steiners Sicht auf Juden wird als assimilationistischer Antisemitismus definiert. Zweitens werden die grundlegenden Züge des norwegischen Germanentums und Antisemitismus dieser Zeit beschrieben. I wanted to create an artistic object that is not only theoretical in the concept of tradition, but something with meaning, that is real and has practical use today. I was thinking about survival of the tradition, despite the globalization process, and the blending of different folk cultures and ethnicities. Those thoughts formed the research area of my project around folktales, which connect us to our roots through generations, and link to the future. The theoretical framework of my project is divided in three parts. The first part is dedicated to the analysis of folktales. The second part is the historical and aesthetical excursion into the illustration of Norwegian folktales. This part is mostly based on a comparative analysis of illustrations and book design, created by different artists. -

IV V Forord Jeg kom for en tid tilbake i snakk med en kvinne om arbeidet mitt med denne oppgaven. Hun kunne fortelle at hennes bestefar hadde nytt stor anseelse i lokalsamfunnet før siste verdenskrig krigen på grunn av sin offentlige stilling. Da okkupasjonen var et faktum ble han bedt av sin arbeidsgiver om å melde seg inn i Nasjonal Samling, men han avslo tilbudet. -

Treatment of samples and counting equipment have remained essentially the same as described previously (R, 1972, v 14, p 418-419). Counting equipment and improvements are described in more detail by Gulliksen (1972). Our counters 2, 5 and 6 now have backgrounds/re- cent standard net counts of respectively .8cpm/ 19.3cpm, l.lcpm/ 11.7cpm, and .55cpm/7.6cpm. Guard Counter GM3 (Nydal, 1965) shielding our Counter 2, has been continuously working for 3 years without refilling or purification of the propane counting gas (1.2atm). Gyttja samples are now dated by using the NaOH-soluble fraction whenever the quantity of sample material is sufficient. Ages are calculated by applying the Libby value 5570 ± 30 years, for the 14C half life, and using 95% of NBS oxalic acid activity as contem- standard referring to AD 1950. -

Parties, Legislators, and the Origins of Proportional Representation∗ Gary W. Coxy Jon H. Fivaz Daniel M. Smithx October 30, 2017 Abstract A prominent line of theories holds that proportional representation (PR) was intro- duced in many European democracies by a fragmented bloc of conservative parties seeking to preserve their legislative seat shares after franchise extension and indus- trialization increased the vote base of socialist parties. In contrast to this \seat- maximization" account, we focus on how PR affected party leaders' control over nominations, thereby enabling them to discipline their followers and build more cohesive parties. We explore this \party-building" account in the case of Norway, using roll call data from six reform proposals in 1919. We show that leaders were more likely to vote in favor of PR than rank-and-file members, even controlling for the parties' expected seat payoffs and the district-level socialist electoral threat facing individual legislators. Moreover, using within-legislator variation, we show that the internal cohesion of parties increased significantly after the introduction of PR. Readings, lectures, discussion and assignments are designed to develop a comparative understanding of the genres of folktale, secular and religious legend, ballad and jokes as distinct narrative expressions of beliefs, practices and worldviews. In combination, the course’s investigation of three types of readings – the folk literature itself, articles presenting literary and cultural analysis, and adaptations of folk narrative in literary tales and drama - encourages a critical approach to the notion of folk literature as representative of the 1 national “folk soul” or evidence of primitive origin. At the same time, the course focuses on the ways in which folk literature plays a role in formation of cultural and national identity, criticism of social and political hierarchies, and definition of the self and other. -
