LEVEN RIVER CRUISES Following is a customer review - “What a great activity and a must-do for the north-west region of Tasmania. We took the four-hour cruise with picnic option added. Easy to access the departure point with loads of parking. Captain Kim takes the cruise boat up river with a first class entertaining and informative commentary. A lunch stop in some historic and preserved bushland. The picnic lunch we had ordered was fantastic- great variety of quality foods and drinks nicely presented. The walking tour Kim does around the picnic area is a must with some impressive trees, manferns, and birdlife on the walk. All in all a relaxing enjoyable interesting and entertaining day. Excellent value for money as well Kim is a friendly and genuine person and really knows her stuff with an abundance of stories about the region and the surroundings you visit. Highly recommended.” Andrew. For bookings phone 0400 130 258 or visit www.levenrivercruises.com.au

ULVERSTONE’S CYCLING FESTIVAL LANDS COMMERCIAL BACKING Coastal companies SeaRoad and Derrico Cycles will link with Central Coast Council to host an international cycling criterium extravaganza and family festivities at Ulverstone’s Bicentennial Park on Sunday, December 30. Commencing at 12.30 p.m., the program will feature three events over a technical and crowd-pleasing 1.1km criterium circuit, starting and finishing in Dial Street, and taking in Victoria, Main, King Edward and Water Streets. The program will kick-off with an 18-lap race for veteran riders, followed at 1.15 p.m. by a women’s event over the same distance, then – at 2.15 p.m. - a grand finale 30-lap men’s elite contest featuring some of the world’s greatest track and criterium cyclists. Top-rated Sydney youngster Cameron Scott, winner of last year’s Ulverstone criterium – in addition to street race victories at Devonport and Burnie – will return, along with three members of Australia’s world record-breaking gold-medal winning men’s pursuit team at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games – Sam Welsford (WA), Kelland O’Brien (Vic) and Alex Porter (SA). Star Europeans, the German Christian Grasmann and Moritz Augenstein, and Austrian Stefan Matzner will test the Australians at every turn and rise on the tricky Ulverstone circuit. The veteran Grasmann won the Fulton Hogan Cup for the champion criterium rider at the carnivals in 2013 and again in 2014. Devonport’s Macey Stewart and Anya Louw, Launceston’s Lauren Perry, American champion Colleen Gulick and Gold Coast Games gold medallist Alex Manly (SA) will inject plenty of fireworks into the women’s criterium, especially Macey who crashed early in last year’s race and was disappointed not to complete the course. The cycling events will be backed by a wonderfully-entertaining program of live music and family-based activities in Bicentennial Park – backed by Central Coast Council and enthusiastically supported by SeaRoad’s executive chairman Chas Kelly whose maternal grandfather was Ulverstone’s stationmaster in the mid-20th century. “The carnivals are great for kids and families,” Mr. Kelly said. “I like the Central Coast Council’s concept for the Ulverstone criteriums – top-flight cyclists and role models combined with plenty of entertainment in the park.”
