Economic Survey 2019-20 Government of Himachal Pradesh Economic Survey 2019-20 Economic and Statistics Department Preface A flagship annual document of the Department of Economic and Statistics, Government of Himachal Pradesh, Economic Survey 2019-20 reviews the developments in the Himachal Pradesh economy over the previous 12 months. It summarizes the performance on major development programmes and highlights the policy initiatives of the government and the prospects of the economy in the short to medium term. This document is presented to the Vidhan Sabha during the Budget Session. The salient features of the State Economy of Himachal Pradesh during 2019-20 are presented in Part-I and statistical Tables on various subjects are given in Part–II. In the last few years, the Economic Survey has become a must read document on the Pradesh’s Economy. It has also become a key pedagogical source on the Himachal Economy. In addition to the review of the economy, the Economic Survey contains in-depth analysis, serious research as well as new policy ideas. This year’s Economic Survey has seen some changes in its contents, I hope it will be received well by the readers. The document is heavily relied upon by Policy Makers, Planners and Academicians. It is a favourite of the students who are appearing in various competitive examinations. For ensuring greater reach of the document, the same is also uploaded both in Hindi and English on www.https://himachalservices.nic.in/economics/in. I appreciate that the collection of data is a very serious and tedious job, it cannot be possible without the full support of the departments. Recognised as one of the best cities for public services and one of the oldest Municipal Corporation in India, Shimla city is situated at the traverse spur of the Central Himalayas at 31004' N to 31010' N latitude and 77005' E to 77015' E longitude, at an altitude of 2397.59 m metres amsl. This paper aims at underlying the role of Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) as local government in managing disasters in the city along with effective planning and risk assessments. The heritage institution originating from a rich legacy stands tall with its promise of value-oriented education in today’s competitive world. Nestled amidst lush green Cedars and mighty Oaks the charm of the edifice is sufficient to command rapt attention and attraction by the pedestrians walking on the road past its hallowed gate. A huge playground invitingly greets the arrival of the students in the campus. The main building facing the playground houses the Administrative Block and Computer Laboratories, reminding one of the days of yore, when the jungle of concrete buildings had not defaced the ‘Queen of Hills’. The college was constructed way back in April 1869 by Harriet Christina Tytler as an institution for industrial orphanage under the name of Himalayan Christina Orphanage and named as North Stoneham. Later in 1872, the same institution was reconstituted as the Mayo Industrial School for female orphans and other girls of European extraction. However, later it was rebuilt and opened for use on March 1, 1905 during the Lieutenant- Governorship of Sir Charles Rivoz, K.C.S.I. and the Episcopate of the Reverend George Alfred Lefroy, D.D., the third Bishop of Lahore.
