2 | Conference & Exhibition Guide Welcome | ISC 2017

Welcome to ISC High Performance and the City of Frankfurt!

Three years ago, we made the decision to directly involve the high performance computing (HPC) community in our technical program. And thanks to the sincere effort of our past and present program chairs and respective committees, the quality of the program has risen sharply and we are resolute in maintaining this tradition.

Under the program leadership of Professor Jack Dongarra, along with the devotion of our 2017 commit- Thomas and Martin Meuer tee members, we are able to offer you a conference filled with compelling topics and speakers. We are especially excited to offer you a full day of presentations and discussions in our Deep Learning Day. We are also tremendously eager to introduce Microsoft Research Co-founder and Distinguished Scientist Dr. Jennifer Chayes as our conference keynote speaker.

ISC 2017 received a record-breaking number of proposal submissions, specifically in the tutorial and birds-of-a-feather sessions, making it quite challenging for the reviewers to make a selection. The quality of the research papers and posters is also improved this year thanks to the implementation of the double-blind peer review policy.

In promoting excellence and diversity, we also set out to increase female leadership in various committees, conference sessions and key-speaking slots by 25 percent. We are happy to have reached our initial milestone and look forward to expanding this diversity next year, in particular by inviting more female experts and speakers from different regions of the world.

New this year, the winner of the Hans Meuer Award, which honors our late father and the founder of the ISC conference series, will be determined and announced during this conference. Don’t miss the presentations from the two short-listed teams on Monday afternoon and the awarding ceremony on Tuesday.

Last but not least, the exhibition is an essential component of ISC High Performance. This year there are 150 businesses and research organizations, including many first-time exhibitors, showcasing diverse technologies and research breakthroughs. Please take the time and visit the show floor during the next three days.

We extend our sincere thanks to the contributors, sponsors, partners and volunteers, as well as our own team, and wish everyone a great conference!

Best regards,

Martin Meuer and Thomas Meuer
