Time-the present Many plays have deep meanings in their ploL. Some have touching morals and interesting poinL and then , alas , there are those plays thaL are written for the pure enjoyment of Lhe audjence . "'rhere ' s Always pring" .is such a play . It is slightly different in that some of the characters are , shall I say , "not all there ." They are , however , typical people in a not so typical situation . I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed directing it . My very special thanks to : Katy , Nick , Tim , Diane , John X., and Amy- you are a simply " super" cast ; to Bob Daily for his valuable assistance ; to my mother and father to whom the play is dedicated ; and to Greg who saw me through it all . The Apple Tree is a musical with a surprisingly good script . It is good because it js taken from a work by the master of down-home wit , Mark Twain . The Adam and Eve he creates are real people . He brings them down to earth. Adam could be your father and Eve your moLher . In fact , they are the parents of all mankind. Unlike Milton , who in Paradise Lost presented Eden in inconceivable terms , Twain captures the essence of the American idea of paradise and sets Eden in the area surrounding Niagra Falls . In keeping with Mark Twain ' s work , we have tried to make the characters of Adam and Eve timeless in their male/female relationship . My heartfelt thanks to John , John , and Colleen . I could have a better cast , but I don ' t see how . My special thanks to Tom Joly , Phil Grzesik , my parents , and to Prof . Joseph T . Cotter who taught Paradise Lost at an opportune time . Transcript: Song & Music in the Movement A Conversation with Candie Carawan, Charles Cobb, Bettie Mae Fikes, Worth Long, Charles Neblett, and Hollis Watkins, September 19 – 20, 2017. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 Song_2017.09.19_01TASCAM Charlie Cobb: [00:41] So the recorders are on and the levels are okay. Okay. This is a fairly simple process here and informal. What I want to get, as you all know, is conversation about music and the Movement. And what I'm going to do—I'm not giving elaborate introductions. I'm going to go around the table and name who's here for the record, for the recorded record. Beyond that, I will depend on each one of you in your first, in this first round of comments to introduce yourselves however you wish. To the extent that I feel it necessary, I will prod you if I feel you've left something out that I think is important, which is one of the prerogatives of the moderator. [Laughs] Other than that, it's pretty loose going around the table—and this will be the order in which we'll also speak—Chuck Neblett, Hollis Watkins, Worth Long, Candie Carawan, Bettie Mae Fikes. I could say things like, from Carbondale, Illinois and Mississippi and Worth Long: Atlanta. Cobb: Durham, North Carolina. Tennessee and Alabama, I'm not gonna do all of that. You all can give whatever geographical description of yourself within the context of discussing the music. What I do want in this first round is, since all of you are important voices in terms of music and culture in the Movement—to talk about how you made your way to the Freedom Singers and freedom singing.

Advent Lessons & Carols sunday, november 27, 2016 4:00 pm Washington National Cathedral advent lessons and carols Welcome to Washington National Cathedral and this Service of Advent Lessons and Carols. Advent is a season of both quiet reflection and joyful expectation. This service is intended to be a time of spiritual preparation, as we watch and wait for the coming of the Kingdom of God. Through our experience of sacred Word and music, the story of the coming of Christ gradually unfolds and deepens our understanding of God’s message of love and redemption. The liturgy itself embodies the sense of Advent movement — through the choir’s processions and in the increasingly powerful prophecies and promises of Holy Scripture. May these words and this music propel you quietly toward the true joy of Christmas. service participants The Reverend Canon Jan Naylor Cope The Reverend Canon Kelly Brown Douglas The Reverend Canon Rosemarie Logan Duncan The Reverend Andrew K. Therefore don’t turn me from your door, but hearken all both rich and poor. The first thing which I do relate is that God did man create; the next thing which to you I’ll tell woman was made with man to dwell. Thus we were heirs to endless woes, till God the Lord did interpose; and so a promise soon did run that he would redeem us by his Son.

Executive Summary Downtown retail in Akron, like in many other Midwest cities, faces challenging trends. Since the 1980’s, big box superstores have sprawled across the northeast Ohio suburban landscape while total population barely grew. The latest threat is e-commerce, chalking up annual 15% increases year after year. Given this harsh competitive climate, it is not surprising that the number of independent retailers has declined by 14% over the past 10 years in Ohio. On the other hand, there are 5% more independent restaurant operators in Ohio today than 10 years ago. Downtown Akron’s retail mix, almost all independents, reflects this trend with 50 foodservice operators vs. 28 non-food merchants. Downtown Akron Partnership (DAP) and a Special Improvement District were formed in the 1990s by property owners to pool business recruitment, marketing, and other efforts, such as the Downtown Ambassadors Program, launched in 2009 to promote a safe and clean downtown.

  • The Status of the Selection and Use of Children’S Literature in K-6 Rural Ohio Public School Classrooms
THE STATUS OF THE SELECTION AND USE OF CHILDREN’S LITERATURE IN K-6 RURAL OHIO PUBLIC SCHOOL CLASSROOMS DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Patricia Ellen Bandré, B.S., M.S. ***** The Ohio State University 2005 Dissertation Committee Approved by Professor Janet Hickman, Adviser Professor Barbara Kiefer ________________________________ Professor Patricia Scharer Adviser College of Education ABSTRACT This study explored the status of the selection and use of children’s literature in K-6 rural Ohio public school classrooms. Specifically, the study sought to find out: 1) what books are being selected for read-alouds and use in literature discussion groups, 2) why those books are chosen, 3) how children’s literature is being integrated across the curriculum, and 4) how selected books are obtained. In order to collect data with breadth as well as depth and increase validity and reliability through triangulation, the study incorporated the use of two research methodologies. In the first phase of the study, a cross-sectional survey was used in order to gather information from a random sample of the population through the use of a mail questionnaire. A total of 535 surveys were sent to rural teachers across the state. Of those, 244 (45%) were completed and returned. In the second phase of the study, a group of twelve randomly selected teachers recorded the titles, authors and intended purpose(s) of the books they selected for classroom use for four consecutive weeks. Additionally, teacher interviews and on-site surveys of classroom environments were used to gather descriptive data.
