Auction Catalog Casterton Kelpie Association presents The 25th Australian Premier Working Dog Auction to be held on 13th June 2021 at Island Park, Casterton Pre-Sale Catalogue Event Program 8.00am Office opens for dog registration and tagging Breakfast available Buyer registrations taken until 2.30 pm 9.00 All vendors to be present for briefing at Public Address Point. 9.30 and Pups and younger dogs demonstrated in Pup 12.30 demonstration arena. 10.30 – 2.30 Paddock, yard, race, draft and sheep loading demonstrations. Each dog only demonstrated once so prospective buyers are urged to be at Island Park by 9.30am so as not to miss any dogs being demonstrated. 12.30- Lunch Break and pup and younger dog 1.00pm demonstrations 2.30 Last opportunity for prospective buyers to register at Office. 3.00 AUCTION commences 4.00 Office opens to receive payments for dogs purchased. Methods of Payment if you purchase a dog at auction are: - Cash - EFTPOS – we do charge a small fee on top of sale price to cover the bank fees applicable - Letter of Introduction – this is a letter addressed to the Casterton Kelpie Association from your Stock Agent stating that we can charge your purchase to your account held with them. Catalogue Working Categories Definitions These definitions are a guide only and buyers must use their own judgment when purchasing a dog at auction. Starting • Displays interest and approaches stock according to natural ability. Started • Given basic commands. Some training on a lead. Come, sit. • Keenness to work may override obedience. • Rides on a vehicle or motorbike. • Interested in stock and going around them in an enclosed area. • Works according to natural ability. • Handler needs to be on foot. • Short practice sessions. Well Started • May be unsettled in strange places • Confident on a small mob. May not handle a big mob. • Makes a few mistakes. • Reasonably obedient depending on level of desire. • May need a while to settle when working. • Brings small mobs of stock towards handler in easy situations. • Learning to drive stock but sometimes goes to the head of the mob. • Needs firm hand and encouragement. • Can be worked from a bike, horse, on foot, or when settled, partly from a vehicle. • Needs time to bond with new handler. Trained and Experienced • Mature in appearance. • May be unsettled in strange places. • Must have at least 12 months experience working on mobs. • Acceptable level of obedience. • Keenness to work and nature will depend on genetic make-up. • Yard dogs: keen to force when required. • Needs time to bond to new handler.
