As in previous years, these photographs will be available for parents/carers to purchase. Reminders Holocaust Exhibition – ‘Journeys’: on Thursday, March 20th there will be a ‘Holocaust Exhibition – Journeys’ held in the drama studios at Wilmslow High School. This follows our PHSCE Day this week, during which Year 9 students took part in the national ‘Think Equal’ programme exploring discrimination and the Holocaust. The exhibition will include an art installation created by students from treasured possessions that have been given in memory of a child who lost their life in the Holocaust. These gifts are intended to symbolise the arrival of the children at the concentration camps when all of their possessions were taken from them. Students have written a message to a child explaining why they have dedicated the item to them. There will also be a small exhibition from the Wiener Library in London, performances from our school choir singing Hebrew songs and a testimony from a Holocaust survivor, Arek Hersh, who was born in Poland and taken to his first concentration camp when he was only 11 years old. The camp started out with 2500 men and 18 months later, only 11 were alive. Arek moved around several camps before being taken to Auschwitz. 300 holocaust surviving children, including Arek, were brought to the Lake District when they were liberated and as a result he became one of the ‘Windermere Boys’. On Thursday March 20th, Arek will show his video from 6.00-7.00pm and tell his story from 7.00-7.45pm, with an opportunity to ask him questions afterwards. If you would like a place to be reserved to watch Arek’s film and to listen to his testimony please email: [email protected] stating how many places you would like reserved and who they are for. Places will be issued on a first come first served basis and will be confirmed via return email. The exhibition will be open from 6.00 - 8.30pm for those who wish to visit without attending Arek’s testimony. Thank you in anticipation of your support (Mrs Dunn). Duke of Edinburgh Award: If you shop at Wilmslow Waitrose please support our Duke of Edinburgh Award students by placing your green token in the charity box during March. The school programme will receive a share of £1000 at the end of the month. The share depends upon the number of green tokens deposited in to the box. This money will go towards buying new outdoors equipment and will help the school to accommodate more students on the Award. Kirkland Rowell Survey: you will have received a parents’/carers’ survey via your son/daughter. Please ensure that all surveys are completed and returned to form tutors (for every student); the last day returns can be accepted is Monday 17th March. Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer these questions. PTA Second-hand uniform/PE kit: the PTA has offered to collect and sell any second-hand uniform / PE kit.
