CRY OUT WITH JOY RESPONSORIAL PSALMS, GOSPEL ACCLAMATIONS, & UNIVERSAL PRAYERS FOR THE LITURGY OF THE WORLD DAVID HAAS, SR. KATHLEEN HARMON SNDDEN, STEPHEN PISHNER, PAUL TATE, & LORI TRUE Cry Out with Joy is a stunning and practical resource containing all of the sung elements of the Liturgy of the Word from five of today’s most notable composers of liturgical music. David Haas, Sr. Kathleen Harmon, Stephen Pishner, Paul Tate, and Lori True have created a distinctive collection of the complete Lectionary psalms (using the Revised Grail Psalms texts), gospel acclamations, and universal prayer responses in a variety of contemporary styles for the three-year Lectionary cycle including solemnities, feasts, and other ritual occasions. Text and tone are superbly reflected in each uplifting setting. This robust resource is both spiritual and catechetical. In addition to providing accessible musical settings, Cry Out with Joy also offers tools to cultivate the formation, education, and spiritual enrichment of the cantor. Seasonal commentaries, prayers for the cantor, and psalm commentaries along with reflections on the singing of each element of the Liturgy of the Word grant insight and a depth of knowledge that can prepare the cantor to “lead the assembly…to a paschal mystery encounter with Christ.” The accompanying recordings include the refrain and first verse of each psalm, making Cry Out with Joy an incredibly well-rounded, accessible, and musical resource for the complete Lectionary psalms and much more. HOLY THURSDAY HOLY THURSDAY EVENING MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER DIOCESE OF MARQUETTE MARQUETTE , MICHIGAN 1 HOLY THURSDAY 2 HOLY THURSDAY Organ Meditations on the Eucharist These organ meditations are offered in place of the usual choral meditations on the Eucharist sung by the Cathedral Choir. For each meditation, the texts associated with the compositions are supplied below for your reflection as you prepare to enter into the sacred mysteries of the Holy Mass. Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 654 Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) “Adorn yourself, O beloved soul. Vacate the dark cavern of sin, come into the clear light, begin to shine with glory; for the Lord, full of salvation and mercy, has now invited you as a guest. The one who can rule over heaven wants to make his very dwelling in you.” Jesu Dulcis-Verbum Supernum (from Five Liturgical Inventions) Victor Togni (1935-1965) “The heavenly Word proceeding forth, yet not leaving the Father’s side, went forth upon His work on earth and reached at length life’s eventide. By false disciple to be given to foemen for His Blood athirst, Himself, the living Bread from heaven, He gave to His disciples first. To them He gave, in twofold kind, His very Flesh, His very Blood: of twofold substance man is made, and He of man would be the Food. By birth our fellowman was He, our Food while seated at the board; He died, our ransomer to be; He ever reigns, our great reward.” - St. Thomas Aquinas Psalm-Prelude Set 2, No.

  • Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday Easter Sunday Of the Resurrection of the Lord At the Mass during the Day April 4, 2021 His Eminence Wilton Cardinal Gregory Archbishop of Washington Celebrant 9:00 am Reverend Monsignor W. Ronald Jameson Rector of the Cathedral Celebrant 11:30 am Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle Washington, District of Columbia For the health and safety of all please maintain safe social distance and continue to wear your mask except when receiving communion. While under normal conditions we would encourage robust singing, we ask that you refrain from singing out loud, and join the cantor’s song in your hearts. Easter Sunday, 2021 My Dear Friends, It is a joy to be able to welcome you to Saint Matthew’s Cathedral on this glorious Feast of Easter. I do so in the name of Cardinal Wilton Gregory, as well as in my own. Of all the times we gather as Christian believers, none is more important than this one. Easter is the greatest of all our feasts. It celebrates the mystery that is the very bedrock and foundation of our Christian faith, for, as St. Paul wrote, “If Christ has not risen, our faith is in vain.” (1 Cor. 15:14) But, Christ HAS risen, and your presence here in the Cathedral both affirms and celebrates that most startling and enduring of all realities. While we do not see him, we know he lives and that he is in our midst breathing life and hope into us, walking alongside us on our pilgrimage of faith, our journey toward the Kingdom.
