    Church Music Notes S EPTEMBER 2011 AGO National Conference on Organ Pedagogy The American Guild of Organists (AGO) and the Eastman School of Music are partnering to produce the 16th biennial AGO National Conference on Organ Pedagogy, November 10–13, 2011, in Rochester, N.Y. The conference, designed in cooperation between the AGO Committee on Continuing Professional Edu- cation and the 10th annual Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative (EROI) Festival, will present the topic of organ improvisation through a variety of compositional techniques and styles. Complete information, including online registration, is available online. "The goal of the AGO’s pedagogy conferences is to ad- dress various topics and issues pertaining to organ instruction in North America," declared David Heller, director of the AGO Committee on Continuing Professional Education. "The City of Rochester and the Eastman School of Music, with its multiplicity of instruments and performing venues, will provide a su- perb setting in which to address the topic of improvisation from many different angles, providing infor- mation and resources that will be useful to all instructors of the organ at all levels of instruction." Easter Sunday, 2021 My Dear Friends, It is a joy to be able to welcome you to Saint Matthew’s Cathedral on this glorious Feast of Easter. I do so in the name of Cardinal Wilton Gregory, as well as in my own. Of all the times we gather as Christian believers, none is more important than this one. Easter is the greatest of all our feasts. It celebrates the mystery that is the very bedrock and foundation of our Christian faith, for, as St. Paul wrote, “If Christ has not risen, our faith is in vain.” (1 Cor. 15:14) But, Christ HAS risen, and your presence here in the Cathedral both affirms and celebrates that most startling and enduring of all realities. While we do not see him, we know he lives and that he is in our midst breathing life and hope into us, walking alongside us on our pilgrimage of faith, our journey toward the Kingdom.
