HOLY THURSDAY HOLY THURSDAY EVENING MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER DIOCESE OF MARQUETTE MARQUETTE , MICHIGAN 1 HOLY THURSDAY 2 HOLY THURSDAY Organ Meditations on the Eucharist These organ meditations are offered in place of the usual choral meditations on the Eucharist sung by the Cathedral Choir. For each meditation, the texts associated with the compositions are supplied below for your reflection as you prepare to enter into the sacred mysteries of the Holy Mass. Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 654 Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) “Adorn yourself, O beloved soul. Vacate the dark cavern of sin, come into the clear light, begin to shine with glory; for the Lord, full of salvation and mercy, has now invited you as a guest. The one who can rule over heaven wants to make his very dwelling in you.” Jesu Dulcis-Verbum Supernum (from Five Liturgical Inventions) Victor Togni (1935-1965) “The heavenly Word proceeding forth, yet not leaving the Father’s side, went forth upon His work on earth and reached at length life’s eventide. By false disciple to be given to foemen for His Blood athirst, Himself, the living Bread from heaven, He gave to His disciples first. To them He gave, in twofold kind, His very Flesh, His very Blood: of twofold substance man is made, and He of man would be the Food. By birth our fellowman was He, our Food while seated at the board; He died, our ransomer to be; He ever reigns, our great reward.” - St. Thomas Aquinas Psalm-Prelude Set 2, No.
