Back to Back! Admirals, Warriors Webb Spartans ousted win state title from tourney

By Ken Lay MURFREESBORO – Far- ragut High School and Christian Academy of Knoxville both had short stays at their respec- tive state tournaments. The Admirals, who won the Class 4-AAA regu- lar-season title and the Region 2-AAA Champion- ship in 2016 despite lack of pitching depth, went 1-2 during their stay at Oakland High School. Farragut, which was making its ninth consec- utive Class AAA Tourna- ment, was eliminated Wednesday night when it dropped a 9-4 deci- sion to Stewarts Creek in an elimination game.

Bearden wins AAA championship By Alex Norman

Bearden boys’ soccer coach Ryan Radcliffe knew a little something about playing winning soccer in Murfreesboro. Back in 2006, he played on the Bulldogs state champion- ship winning team. Ten years later, Radcliffe has another title to go with it. On Friday, May 27th, the Bulldogs (23-3) rallied to beat Ravenwood 5-2 in the AAA title game at the Siegel Soccer Complex. “That’s a state champi- onship game for you,” said Radcliffe. “It was back and forth. We never really felt like we were comfortable until the last second. All the credit in the world to these seniors. I’m blessed with a special group of play- ers. And they earned it.” It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to realize it would not be easy to win the big trophy. Just 69 seconds in, Ravenwood’s Jake Hill placed a free kick past Bearden keeper Randall Bishop, and the Raptors were up 1-0.
