Fire Summary: The Dry Cabin Fire is located within the Bob Marshall and areas in the Flathead National Forest and Lolo National Forest. This fire is being managed with point protection suppression strategy and protecting values at risk including wilderness cabins and bridges, with fire personnel and public safety as a priority. The fire is burning in steep terrain in timber and brush. Smoke may be visible from Hwy 200 and surrounding areas. The fire is being managed by a limited Type 3 management organization with local resources. Fires in this area have a history of making high intensity crown runs after long periods of low fire behavior. This is expected to be a longer duration event, with larger fire growth anticipated.

Current Situation: The fire is currently burning in the vicinity of the Upper Dry Fork and Cabin Creek drainages. Fire activity over the weekend was high due to winds pushing the fire north and west towards the Dry Fork-Flathead Divide, up to the boundary between the Lolo/Flathead National Forest boundary. The fire did receive precipitation early in the week moderating activity. There are no structures currently threatened. Weather is forecasted to be unsettled for the remainder of the week, with thunderstorms forecast for today and tomorrow and a chance of rain on Friday into Saturday.

Area and Trail Closures: For public safety, area closures are being put into place in the Lolo National Forest Dry Fork area: affected trails include Dry Fork #31 at North Fork Cabin including connecting trails Cabin Creek #80, Dwight Creeping and smoldering fire Creek #414, Canyon Creek #16; also in the Flathead National Forest behavior on the northwest flank of Danaher area: affected trails include the Eastside South Fork Trail #126 the fire just south of Concord Mtn. from junction with Rapid Creek Trail #142 south to boundary with Lolo National Forest, including connecting trails Alloy Creek #265, Calf Creek #277, Spring Creek #144, Bar Creek #140, Limestone Pass #143.
